Biography

Forged from the fables of their childhoods and inspired by the moving world around them, Bethesda is a band from Cleveland that aims to lift your heart and move your feet with the music they make.

Founded in 2008, Bethesda has been a labor of love for its members who propel its engines with their passionate pursuit of a singular dream and a cause.  After finding their footing and sound with the releases of their 2008 Self-Titled EP and their 2010 Love in a Time of Tra La La LP, Bethesda began to make its mark with the 2011 release of Dreamtiger & Other Tails that introduced them to the national scene with successful radio, licensing and press campaigns.

With a larger audience than ever before, Bethesda decided to take their brand of thoughtful indie-folk and high energy live shows to as many cities as they could muster.   Their first national tour was highlighted by an appearance at Bonnaroo Music Festival 2012 where they were named one of The Other Best Bands of Bonnaroo 2012 by Esquire Magazine.

With renewed confidence, Bethesda recorded and released The Reunion, their second full-length album, to critical acclaim in the Spring of 2013. Following this release their tracks found their way to regular rotation on over 200 radio stations nationwide, the New and Noteworthy list on iTunes, and licensed for major TV stations, including MTV and VH1.  A successful release of a music video for the song Go on Baeblemusic followed where the video had an extended multi-week stay on the top 5 list.

Since the release, Bethesda has toured relentlessly with stops at SXSW, Bunbury Music Festival, CMJ Music Marathon, MidPoint Music Festival, and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame highlighting the list.  They have also shared the stage with notable acts, including Sharon Van Etten, Nouvelle Vague, First Aid Kit, Eisley, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Margot & the Nuclear So and Sos and many more.

After completing the year near the top of several Best Albums of 2013 lists, Bethesda has harnessed the momentum of their 2013 release to get back into the studio, thus starting the next leg of their improbable journey.  Combining their recent successes with their passionate drive and growing national presence, it is clear that the best is yet to come.

Lyrics

The Reunion

Written By: Bethesda

Place me there in the casket, Lay me down neath the ground
It is there where I’ll love you , Till I find a way out…till I find a way out
Beautif’ly sings my lovely, haunting ears of the fraught
“Fortitude’s not forgiveness, if forgetters forgot”
Have I forgot?

You’re so far away
Whispers of your love keep my eyes awake
You’re here in the dark’ning day
On shadows of what was rests our fading faith

The coal, the child, the rust
Of plagues that robbed our love, Lord
Of dreams we’re dreaming of…where we will go
Ohoohohoh

Here I fall towards
Destiny’s plot where the
Reapers of love and the fighters who fought
Pull limb from soul – so the body goes
And the winds of your call fall of deafening bones

I long … to follow where you’ve gone
My heart it lays with you, my love

We’ll see on the destined day
They’ll march the trails we swore wouldn’t fade away
Like a civil war parade
Their carrying the stories our love has made

The church, the lost, the blood
They rattle soil we dug …lord
With songs our lives have sung….slung on their backs …
OOOooohhohhoh

It’s the song of hope .. that the cardinal crows
Of our forgotten dreams and a misguided course
It’s the song never wrote, so the story goes
Yet the notes are sung true from each bellowing throat
Tilt low…. Just for you
Singin’ “darling my heart always lays with you!”

I am ready for…I am ready for…I am ready for…I am ready for…the NIGHT
We are ready for…we are ready for…we are ready for…we are ready for…the HEIGHTS
I am ready for…I am ready for…I am ready for…I am ready to …DIE
We are ready for…we are ready for…we are ready for…we are ready for…the BRIGHT

Go

Written By: Bethesda

The lure of your song … the crackling guns, the choirs rise and fall
It’s beckoning me; to shirk my burdensome biology
So child, draw near; these tilting tones will calm your greatest fears
And you’re gone …. spirited on

But when the cold gets blowin’
Whose shiv’rin arms will wrap you up?
Or when your feet do wander
Whose tremblin’ hands will straight your walk?

The wrong idea
Exchanging our love for some sense of peace
For 12 long years
I’m searchin’ for you, are you searchin for me?
Don’t let Go; go….I’m comin’ home

My heart’s large black hole, I’ve grown in hopes its magnetism pulls
And swallows the sea whose arms have pushed your island far from me
Dear child draw near, this distant haunting focuses my fear
That your gone…movin’ on

What if the leaves start fallin’
What if the colors drown us out?
And all the lines are blurring
A vintage photograph forgot?

The wrong idea
Exchanging our love for some sense of peace
For 12 long years
Still searchin’ for you, are you searchin for me?
Will you Gooooooooooooooooooooooooo; goooooooooooooooooo….I’m comin’ home

Let the weight of your soul
Lift you up
Guilded in gold’s
Not enough
This longing still pulls...sayin
Go, go, go – if your lookin for it
Go, go, go – you find what you need
Go, go, go – ‘cross greatest ocean
Go, go, go – Carry thoughts of me

Go, go, go – if your lookin for it
Go, go, go – you’ll find what you need
Go, go, go – ‘cross the greatest ocean
Go go go....GO
Oh loneliness your grip is free

As We Grow Old

Written By: Bethesda

Gave up the hope for the hopeless...Cause hope it escapes and its absence can break us
They said the war it would save us - but it seems love - that it takes us

‘Cause I’m looking for the things that I love the most
In this light all I see is your faith bound ghost
What’s the truth of your HEART?
When we were young, we would search for the meaning
Of the love, of the world of the healing -
Said it won’t make sense – how this all ends

I’LL tear away the things we’ve grown
‘Til I claw the dirt that consumes and hoooooolds holds
Maybe then you’ll loosen up your guns
We can raise a glass to the things undoooone undone

Lost in my home
Cold hands...cold soul

I’m not my own

The sirens call us to shores found.....They beckon for sweetness, they beckon for ways out
Wreckage, its beauty beguiling.... Tie me down man - Cause I’m still fighting...still fighting...

I’m still looking for the things that I love the most
Neath your skin there’s a truth that will run its course
been there from the START
When we were young - we were young in our reasons
Simple hearts, simple love, simple meaning
Said it won’t make sense - how this all ends!

I would tear away the things we’ve grown
‘Til I claw the dirt that consumes and hoooooolds
Maybe then you’ll loosen up your guns
We can raise a glass to the things undoooone

Yet the wind carries on
Forgets the rights it has wronged
Shifting everything with its wandrin’
Still we’re here asking why
While the ‘why’ passes by
It’s not you, its not me, His wells run deep
Pulls us beneath

Rotted Pines

Written By: Bethesda

I went searching for a line
That would lift your heavy mind
That gravity will drive you down in time

And when you lift your weary eyes
I won’t be a bit surprised
To find the one I long to recognize
To fall in love to fall into your guise

We dig and we dig hoping still for the promise in kind
Yet the circles we make only cut off the roots of the pines...
What did ya find?
Your weary mind
What did ya find?
This rotted pine

Spent my time running away
From the regency of faith
Momentum’s gonna take me to the grave

And when the rope, it starts to burn
It won’t surprise me if you yearn
To let me go, to give up on this turn
To fail to love, to take just what we’ve learned

We dig and we dig hoping still for the treasure in kind
Yet the circles we make only cut off the roots of the pines...
What did ya find?
My wanderin kind?
What did we find?
These rotted pines

Still we can rejoice!
A still and small voice!
We can rejoice
We can rejoice
