"Bobby and the Renegades Is A Band To Watch"

On Tuesday Crazy Fingers was scheduled for BB King’s, but someone messed up the scheduling so at the very last minute Bobby and the Renegades filled in. These guys sound better every time I see them. They told me they got the word on the way to band practice and turned around and headed to the club. Thanks, guys! I’d come down to hear Crazy Fingers (a great Dead tribute/jam band) but Bobby and the boys filled the bill.

"Blue Over The Loss of Kona, But Buoyed By Great Blues at BB King's"

Had some sad things going on last week, and some positive things happening as well.

It was the blues last week for those of us who were fans of Kona Grill’s great seafood and sushi, as the chain decided to close the West Palm location. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to the great crew that has served us so well at Kona. They weren’t a big music venue — Thursday nights acoustic on the patio — but they had some great artists and great food to go along with it.

On a more positive note, and in the trademark philosophy of dancing and dining the blues away, BB King’s has been getting some great blues bands in on the “off nights” of late. And, as of August 1st, they’ve extended their seven day happy hour to eight o’clock with a special happy hour menu to accompany a 2 for 1 happy hour drink special.

Great music– a great happy hour — and a new chef to boot. We’ve raved about the venue and the music here before, but the food… not so much. Good, but not great. However, last week we had the “pile of nachos,” and they rivalled anything else we’ve had for nachos, and were way better than we’ve seen in the past at BB’s. Great presentation, lots of flavor, messy (like we like nachos), and they’ve got us looking forward to trying out some of the entrees and other potentially great things on the menu.

If BB King’s food gets to be as good as their music, they’ll really be a downtown powerhouse. I’ve been archiving some great video from the last couple of weeks.

On a Sunday night Bobby and the Renegades surprised us with some great blues music, and a stellar young blues player, Steve Laudicina. Hope to hear them again at BB Kings soon. - DownTown West Palm

Popular band to play during downtown festival

LEESBURG

Staff Report

Bobby and The Renegades, a popular Florida blues band, will perform tonight at the inaugural Barbecue Brews and Blues barbecue competition in Downtown Leesburg.

The 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. event at 501 W. Main St., sponsored by the Downtown Leesburg Business Association, is being billed as a "family event with the focus on fun, food, and live blues music."

Providing the music will be Bobby and The Renegades, which consists of Greg Magnanti on vocals, Steve Laudicina on guitars, Mason Randall on bass and Rich Conklin on drums. Formed in May 2010, the band already has competed and placed second at the International Blues Competition for both the South Florida Blues Society and The Orange Blossom Blues Society.

According to event spokesman Jean-Paul Galbreath, the association decided to bring a barbecue competition to the downtown area because of the success of it's Annual Chili-Cook Off, now celebrating its 14th year.

"Barbecue competitions have become increasingly more popular in recent years," he said Friday. "We just thought it was time to see if we could do one."

At least a dozen individuals or groups have already signed up to cook a minimum of 30 pounds of pork butt apiece for the barbecue competition. Ribs will be cooked, as well.

The Judges Choice Award for pork will feature trophies and cash prizes. Same with the Peoples Choice Award for pork and ribs, but the judging for this event will be based on the total amount of "pig bucks" each competitor collects from the barbecue-buying public for food samples.

Other food will be available for sale, as well as a selection of microbrew beers.

"Music is What Love Sounds Like"

Bobby and the Renegades
I've had the pleasure of seeing Bobby and the Renegades a couple of times recently, and have yet to be disappointed.
Regardless of the size of the room or the number of people in the crowd, the boys play with the same level of intensity.
Comprised of members of hard rock band Beauty to the Moon and blues rockers The Helldorados, Bobby and the Renegades was formed just under a year ago.

Vocalist Greg Magnanti may be new to the group, but is clearly a good fit with the rest of the band. The ease and chemistry with fellow members is evident in his performance.

Guitarists "Mean" Dean Haddox and Steve Laudicina are fun to watch: alternately grinning and trading licks or getting swept away in a passionate solo that fills the room.

Drummer Harry Brooklyn and Bassist Mason Randall provide a solid foundation, keeping a steady beat for covers and originals alike. Their experience shines through in their playing, both members show a combination of precision and relaxed confidence.

It's a blast when everyone gets in on the fun, and the band's cover of Muddy Waters' Got My Mojo Workin' gets a crowd on their feet with ease.
On the other end of the spectrum, the guys wrapped up a recent set with Bill Withers' "Aint No Sunshine", a great match for Magnanti's vocals.

Bio

All coming from diverse musical backgrounds, it was their love for the blues that brought this mix of generations together. Bobby and the Renegades is made up of Greg Magnanti on Vocals; Steve Laudicina on Guitars; Mason Randall on Bass; and Rich Conklin on Drums. Strong command of their instruments; stage presence; and high energy shows really get the crowd involved and grooving when Bobby hits the stage.

A singer/songwriter who's steely vocals stress the pure soul of music, Greg Magnanti' s many years around the blues scene has made him a polished frontman. When you hear Steve Laudicina, the "Young Gun" on lead and slide guitars, you'll swear he's "experienced" if you know what we mean! Steve is capable of delivering his soul felt blues in to notes that entice and embrace audiences and leaves them screaming for more.

Mixing the styles of Mason Randall (aka Boogie Man) on Bass, and Rich Conklin on drums, drives the band with their hard rocking, soulful rhythms.

Formed in May 2010, Bobby and the Renegades have already competed and placed 2nd at the International Blues Competition for the South Florida Blues Society and The Orange Blossom Blues Society, making quite an impression!

Bobby and the Renegades have several original songs and more than enough material for anything from one set to a 4+ hour night. You can catch Bobby live at the House of Blues, BB King's Blues Club, Bamboo Room, Hurricane Lounge, Buckingham Blues Bar, Earl’s Hideaway Lounge, Bayside Grille, Downtowner Saloon, as well as other locations throughout Florida.
