BOOM! BAP! POW!

BOOM! BAP! POW!

BandPopSoul

BOOM! BAP! POW! is their name and trashy doo-wop pop n' soul is their mission. Their blockbuster live show features the larynx shredding one minute; sweet as sugar the next vocals of Novac Bull as well as live sax and explosive call and response dynamics.

Biography

Perth Rock n' Soul merchants Boom! Bap! Pow! are a band that know how to work their crowd the old fashioned way. Like a WA version of Bob Dylan's Never Ending Tour, they've spent the last few years clocking up kilometres and appearing on just about every stage the West has to offer. Give them a few planks of wood to jive on and an audience to sway and Boom! Bap! Pow! will put their heads down and get down to business. The rest of the country has also fallen for their lightning-in-a-bottle style as they've toured with the likes of Eli 'Paperboy' Reed and Royal Crown Revue, played huge national festivals such as Queenscliffe and Laneway and won a multitude of plaudits far and wide. It's on their long awaited sophomore album though, that Boom! Bap! Pow! have finally documented the crazy, ecstatic energy that only results from a true fusion of band and audience. It's a sweet and sweaty sound. It is So Heavy.

Right from the first line, we're in deep. "I got a weakness" asserts lead singer and Perth icon Novac Bull, laying it all on the line in true redemptive rock ‘n’ roll fashion. So Heavy is an adventure not just in relentless enthusiasm, but also in painstaking song-craft. Tracks such as My World and recent single Keeping You Happy showcase a band in complete control of it's facilities. Hooks collide and climaxes pack a wallop with Bull regularly whipping herself into a sort of controlled frenzy. Stylistically, Boom! Bap! Pow! pay homage to their rock and soul influences without overstepping bounds. No surprise then, that Bonds and American company Value City Furniture recently commissioned first single Suit for their recent and respective campaigns. The song also took home the gong in the pop category of the 2013 WAM Song of The Year awards, an illustrious and deserved honor. We're Dancing with the Son of a Proud Mary here and it's in this amalgamation of celebratory sounds that Bull and her tight-as-a-drum cohorts prove their reputation as a powerhouse - already on stage and now on record.

Lyrics

Suit

Written By: Bracknell / Bull / Hines / Hooper / Salvaire

You're so cute I wanna wear you like a suit
I think you'd look pretty good on me
You're so cute I wanna wear you like a suit
I think you'd look pretty good on me
Ok alright, Ok alright

Don't know how it started to start but now it's staring to stop
Kind of rough but you got the stuff to make me hot
All legs and arms and feet and fingers and toes
I want you draped across my shoulders want you close to the bone

My World

Written By: Bracknell / Bull / Hines / Hooper / Salvaire

My world wouldn't crumble if you weren't around
It's not like mountains crumble every time you lay me down
Honey I know you did your best but the truth just got to be told
I'm too much woman for this old rag dress and it's time I hit the road

My world was your attention but now I'm in another place
There's no need to spell it out you can read it off my face
Come on now don't be upset it's not like bells would chime
My world may be full of cheap regrets but you were never worth a dime

Got a fever it's rising and rising in me darling
And this fever It means now I gotta say goodbye

My world wouldn't crumble if you weren't around
It's not like the earth it rumbles every time you lay my body me down
Sugar I know you tried your best but the truth darling it just got to be told
I'm too much woman to be stuck in this mess it's time I let you go

Keeping You Happy

Written By: Bracknell / Bull / Hines / Hooper / Salvaire

One look at you and I saw empires fall
Snake charmer dictator but you make no sound at all
It's always the shy ones always the quiet kind
Looking over their shoulder trying to hide their dirty minds
Oh their dirty minds

Well I think I'm wasting all my time
'Cos keeping you happy
Keeping you happy
Keeping you happy is a full time job yeah

You're a wounded lion knickers in a twist
I'd help lick your wounds but I'm just not into this
Never thought I was a shy one but I'm dragging far behind
Running down James Street trying to keep up with your dirty mind

Well I think I'm wasting all my time
'Cos keeping you happy
Keeping you happy
Keeping you happy is a full time job yeah

It's always the shy ones always the quiet kind
Looking over their shoulder trying to hide their dirty minds

'Cos keeping you happy
Keeping you happy
Keeping you happy is a full time job yeah
