Whale Bones and Toes

Written By: Cali Shaw

WHALE BONES AND TOES

People live in darkness with ghosts and their gods
careful not to show all your cards
when the boat came to light and the fire lantern glows
reflections in the dark black waters

Old radios not quite tuned in
whale bones and toes that know just where we’ve been
all these little crimes that seemed to begin
even though nothing, nothing can’t last forever.

nothing lasts for forever

Suntans and suits was the last thing that we saw
spit the blood when you hit me across the jaw
why do we hold on when love is gone
your reflections in the dark black waters

Old radios not quite tuned in
whale bones and toes that know just where we’ve been
all these little crimes seem to begin
even though nothing, nothing can’t last forever.

nothing lasts for forever

Winter Bloom

Winter Bloom

Mid late December,
I can vaguely remember
The light in your eyes
These two boats collide
Around that good table,
We were smoking and drinking,
Well the night was still young,
Can’t we stay till the morning could,
Shine in our eyes, we would rise to the sky
like those red hot balloons,
Sangria Saloons
Winter Bloom

Two weeks till winter
and your small, star-shaped flowers
sweet smelling paper-whites
like magic dark branches
you sing for the forest
and those four lives before us
The thirst in their mouths
were like dark thunder clouds
in the back of your mind
and we thought you had time
but the day draws to soon
Sangria Saloons
Winter Bloom

You don’t fall far from the fire
This painted memory of spring and dreams of summertime.
warm bursts of colors and snowbirds crawl up the vines
darkness, warmth and light

Colors

Colors

I love all the colors that you got
Yellow, green, and purple polka-dot
Kissed you on the grass in the summertime
I do adore you as a daffodil
Yellow sunset’s down in Castroville
Kid’s gonna do just what they please

So I came back home again
No I am not famous, but who cares about that anyway,
So sign, on the dotted line
Let’s all agree, to disagree, bout what we want to be

I love all the colors that you got
Yellow peacock feathered astronaut
Rock the dance floor till the morning comes
you brush the morning light from your eye
Hot balloons maroon colored sky
Wonder how you ever got here with me.

I love all the colors that you got
Yellow, green, and purple polka-dot
Kissed you on the grass in the summertime
I kissed you good night your my tortoise shell
Wake up sun-bright, Oh my what the hell
Kid’s gonna do just what they please

I love all the colors that you got
Yellow, green, and purple polka-dot
Kissed you on the grass in the summertime
I do adore you as a daffodil
Yellow sunset’s down in Castroville
Kid’s gonna do just what they please

Gunslinger

Written By: Cali Shaw

Gunslinger

I am a gun-slinging man

born to this world,
your feet were were cold
your head was swoll,
they must have know

grown to a man
ghost- like features
and the leader of a shoot-em-up gang

his eyes could pass right through you
all the way to the other side
his eyes would pass right through you
galaxies collide

I am a gun-slinging man

Dust on the road
country highway
the day had been a dreary one at best

Come to arrest my thoughts
and to drive that train
he must have been a wicked man

Because I am just another
lonely gunslinger
this finger came to shoot you down

You grieve for what you think you lost
So hold a mirror up to where you’re bravely standing
I could see your wings gently flapping in the wind
as the clouds came gently crashing in
sort through all the used clothes bins
all the uniforms of men I could have been.

I am a gun-slinging man
