Sun Country Airlines is adding a Minnesota flavor to its entertainment. Starting today, the airline is featuring Minnesota artists on one of its music channels and in its in-flight magazine.

Tim Mahoney and Quietdrive will play live acoustic concerts from 5 to 7 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Hubert Humphrey Terminal to promote the initiative, even though the tunes begin playing on flights today.

"As a Minnesota-based company, it is important that we utilize Minnesota products at every opportunity," said Wendy Williams Blackshaw, Sun Country's Vice President of Marketing. "Featuring Minnesota musicians is an innovative way in which we can show our support for the local community."

Tunes by each of the eight artists - Mahoney, Quietdrive, Scarlet Haze, Corey Stevens, the Chris Hawkey Band, Peter Mayer, the Splatter Sisters and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra - will play on a rotating basis over the public address system while passengers board their aircraft. Additionally, each artist will have their separate channel as part of the airline's on-board audio programming. They also will be featured in Sun Country's in-flight magazine, "Escape."

Bio

With a collective 50 years of experience in regional and national bands, the Chris Hawkey Band came together in 2004 in support of Chris’ album Minutes to Memories. The band's latest album, The Pursuit, joins together Chris Hawkey's everyman anthems with driving guitars and production by Matt Kirkwold(Quietdrive, American Taxi) to evoke an album highlighting Midwestern rock and roll at its finest. With standout tracks like "Dig Down," “Little Dance” and “Million Lonely Souls” the music of The Chris Hawkey Band appeals to a faithful regional following while also opening for such acts as Cheap Trick, Molly Hatchet, Quiet Riot, Dave Pirner (of Soul Asylum), The Violent Femmes, Collective Soul, and Counting Crows.
