Bio

Chris Ranallo’s musical talents have taken him across a wide variety of stages over the last decade and have formed the basis of a career path that has him positioned to make that next step — from a journeyman entertainer, to a breakout artist who, with his guitar riffs and vocal prowess is ready for wider recognition.

He has developed his talents, growing up in a household where his musical gifts were nurtured and supported by his parents, and by 9 years of age he was composing his own material on the piano.

By the time Chris entered junior high school he had learned to play the guitar, joining his first band shortly thereafter. As a developing artist, he was influenced by iconic performers like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Police and the Dave Matthews Band, but his artistry carries with it the unmistakable trademark of one who spent hours hearing his father playing the piano, and hearing his mother’s “captivating” voice at home.

Continuing to perform with rock bands all through high school, Chris would eventually attend the University of Iowa, which was its own proving ground, enabling him to sharpen his skills to a greater extent. After graduation, he moved to Chicago in 2001, and began to tour as a solo performer.

Throughout that year, Chris continued to pen his own material. He returned to Iowa the following year, and formed a duo with Scott Kacher, a fellow singer/songwriter. Together they toured in Vail, Colorado during 2005, and collaborated on the album Velcro Dog.

Chris continued to light up venues as both a solo and duo performer. In 2009 he joined the band Decoy. The band has developed an almost infectious enthusiasm among its loyal fan base. Their 2010 CD entitled Nothing to Lose has garnered well-deserved kudos for their tight harmonies and overall production in a fine first effort.

Chris is currently in production for his solo album, Exhale, and there are plans underway for a tour in the fall in support of this work, which will feature 5 original tracks.
Look for this album to bring even more listeners into the fold of supporters of this Des Moines native.

As Chris’ star continues to rise along his own personal trajectory as an artist, he’ll always be that kid, with the love of acting and performing, in the spotlight for which he is truly ready.
