"A band you can count on for one great song after another".

“Great music! 3 guitars have never sounded so good at the same time. “

Rather than churning out generic bubblegum pop, counterfeit molly serves up an eclectic rock mix that finds its roots in classic rock and modern experimentation. The innovative quintet is comprised of Mike Gombas, Chris Kendrick, Shawn Angelo, Vince Gurioli and Ben Meyer. According to singer Mike Gombas, “The songs are usually crafted around a melody but they really only become counterfeit molly songs after everyone has a chance to put in their own unique stamp on each and every part.” Luckily, it’s a process that has worked well for the group over the years.
After completing hundreds of east coast shows, the band self-released a studio 8 song EP in July 2004 that gained them a loyal cult following, but also led them down the typical road of big label disappointment. Chris Kendrick recalls “We got early interest from Neptune’s Producer Pharell Williams and various others.”
Against all odds, the self-produced album turned out brilliantly, which landed them the pleasure of opening for national touring acts such as Staind, Jimmy’s Chicken Shack, Family Force 5, White Light Motorcade, Tantric, and Seven Mary Three.
Easy to listen to, but hard to classify, counterfeit molly have crossed many genres since establishing themselves with their self titled 2004 debut. The introspection of grunge, the weight of metal, the in your face appeal of punk music all blend easily in their songs.
The band spent the last six months in the studio writing, recording and producing their next album with a fine toothed comb. Songs like “I Wanted More” and “Little White Lie” benefit greatly from the band’s unparalleled attention to detail has led them to a sound that is singularly unique in a modern day when acts are sorely missing any sense of individuality.
