BandRockPop

With a list of influences too long and varied to mention, this band of musical sisters and brothers from different mothers creates a rich harmony (vocally and musically) of original rock pop folk art.

Biography

damian israel shiner used to play with a cardboard guitar in his basement and lipsync to The Beatles, Elvis and Styx, much to the enjoyment (and sometimes ridicule) of his family and neighbors. Fast-forward more years than you’d believe, and after the celebrated endurance of his former band shinerjones (myspace.com/shinerjones), he's out on his own, playing with friends he’s made along the way.

shiner’s latest CD project, the basement sessions, is a collection of mostly acoustic (and one rock) versions of songs he has written over the years. Produced with his friend and bandmate, Chris Harris, the CD became available at shows in late June of 2007 while shiner, Harris, and bassist Wes Switzer were on tour, promoting this new project. They constitute the live act, while the CD features Daigo Fujiwara on acoustic stand-up bass, Robyn Priest on hand percussion, and Harris on the kit. shiner’s music has been featured on several compilation CD’s, boston radio shows, as well as in workout rooms and yoga classes. Having taken this latest project on the road (east coast, midwest, and most recently southern CA), shiner is excited about broadening his exposure -- more cities and dates to come!

As a cantor in several churches every weekend, more than a few people have told shiner that they come to church specifically to hear him sing. One fan remarked that she "hopes heaven sounds as nice!" Clearly, this is a voice not to miss!

Lyrics

precious

Written By: damian israel shiner

only a moment, in the span of time,
just a point on a continuous line,
i'm nothing, but a fleeting glimpse
of a history de tout ce qui existe

small and smaller, and shrinking still
when i realize in the grand scheme of time i'm
small and smaller, and shrinking still
the percentage of time my life may actually fill

insignificant to the world you see
i'm only part of your periphery
if the world's a stage, and your life's a play,
i'm an extra member you may cast away

small and smaller, and less each day
when i realize in the grand view of life i'm
small and smaller, and less each day
the percentage of lives, my life may touch anyway

smaller and smaller and smaller
(precious and passing, each moment, yet i'm standing still)

small and smaller, and fading fast
when i realize in the grand view of time i'm
small and smaller, and fading fast
every moment of time my life may actually last

je suis petit et plus petit et passant furtivement
quand je realise dans le vision des temps

don't

Written By: damian israel shiner

i thought i knew you, but i just know your kind. i know it so well, you are almost me. i was.

i think in matter, but that's just energy, and life's too short to give you mine, or me.

don't try to tell me things you think i just wanna hear
don't try to spare my feelings
you speak before you think
your words are out of sync
and i can't take another rollercoaster ride with you

i thought i saw you, out just the other day. i only recognize you when you walk away.

i think it's funny, you live a waking dream, but your smiles are wasted lies on me.

don't try to tell me things you think i just wanna hear
don't try to hide your feelings
you act without a thought
and i'm the one who's caught
and i can't take another rollercoaster ride with you

you don't want me anymore, but did you ever?
one last word, then you were out the door -- i got severed.
you don't want me anymore, but did you ever?
one last word, then you were out the door -- my heart shattered.

i thought i felt you, but it was only rain. time progresses, still our world's the same.

you live in contrast, i see in shades of gray, and life's too short to give myself away.

don't try to tell me things you think i just wanna hear
don't try to make me smile
you ought to know by now
your words are hollow
and i can't take another rollercoaster...

i can't take another freaky poser...

i can't take another game of how you like me now

peace

you are black and i am white
you're my complement, like left is to right
'though we look different, we both share one humanity
both of us learning to give
both of us yearning to live
both of us burning to see... both of us free

your look's asian, mine's caucasian
we are complements, it's a yin-yang relation
'though we look different, we both share one humanity
both of us trying to heal
both of us vying to feel
both of us hope it's for real... both of us free

because, you are my brother
you're my sister, too
we must learn to carry each other
can't let the world swallow you

we all share in a common birth
born out of love, love is what we deserve
we gotta learn to share this earth

you're hispanic, she's germanic
we are complements to the rest of the planet
'though we look different, we all share one humanity
all of us learning to give
all of us yearning to live
all of us trying to heal
all of us vying to feel
all of us united we stand
all of us side-by-side, hand-in-hand
all of us wanting to be... all of us free

you are my brother
you're my sister, too
we must learn to carry each other
we can't let the world swallow you

heaven

Written By: damian israel shiner

there's a longing deep inside of me
to go some place i have never seen
somewhere deep inside of me
and all around and in between

but everywhere is far too great
to be there all the time
but somehow you happen to be even places
in which i'd least expect you to find

you're all around me, like the air in which i breathe
i am inside of you, like fish swim in the sea
and when i come home, it'll finally dawn on me
you've always been here, waiting patiently

there's a world that surrounds me and you
and like a fog it clouds my view
distorting shapes, it blurs landscapes
and i lose even you

but everytime i choose to die
you help me see the light
illuminating love
beyond the limits of my sight

you're all around me, like the air in which i breathe
i am inside of you, like fish swim in the sea
and when i come home, it'll finally dawn on me
you've always been here, waiting patiently

there's a longing deep inside of me
to go beyond all that i can see
and to find you
as if you were apart from me

and when i finally forget myself
and i see you on your knees
you've been praying for me
to share in your love eternally

you're all around me, like the air in which i breathe
i am inside of you, like fish swim in the sea
and when i come home, it'll finally dawn on me
you've always been here, waiting patiently

the ELEPHANT

Written By: damian israel shiner

i wanna die, he said, he said,
his eyes so young and sad
what a shame, his pain,
never going home again
he lies alone in bed,
while they are home in bed

the butterfly can't see
the chaos reaped from 10,000 feet
can't feel the pain
from the bloody train,
and no taste returns
we don't feel it burn
we just watch it burn
while they watch it burn

can you see it in the room?
you know it never forgets
no, it never forgets
you know it never regrets
no, it never regrets, no, no
'cuz hell still sucks
someone's feeling this
someone's feeling this
and someone's feeling this
and no one's feeling this

can you see it in the room?
you know it never forgets
no, it never forgets
you know it never regrets
no, it never regrets, no, no
'cuz hell still sucks
someone's feeling this
someone's feeling this
and someone's feeling this
and no one's feeling this

her lips moved,
but all i heard were gunshots
and the flap of wings
echoing
she was just here with me
and now she'll never be,
oh no she'll never be
and now i'll never be the same

can you see it in the room?
you know it never forgets
no, it never forgets
you know it never regrets
no, it never regrets, no, no
'cuz hell still sucks
someone's feeling this
someone's feeling this
and someone's feeling this
and no one's feeling this

i wanna die, i said

sad

Written By: damian israel shiner

just as the days become shorter
and we seem to be swallowed by night
what streams through the cracks in our seasonal drapes
are the moments of power and light

if i want to get rid of this feeling
like the world is full of hatred and lies
then i must embrace the love a child can give
when he sees the world through innocent eyes
i wanna try

as soon as the sun is shining
i'm happiness inside
but as soon as the sun starts to fade
my happiness subsides
i long to see the darkness through your eyes
through your eyes

i wanna smile without a fight
wanna serve love instead of might
stop looking for wrong or right
you turn the dark into light

just as the day becomes shorter
and the time we have is all that we've made
i wanna make time for where you happen to be
for you came to love today
i wanna be loved today

i wanna smile without a fight
wanna serve love instead of might
thank GOD i found my sight
you turn the dark into light

rock the casbah

this is my arrangement of a popular song by The Clash -- a stripped down, acoustic lounge feel for a rocking song.

enjoy!

prepare

Written By: damian israel shiner

'tis the season to rejoice
and i've finally found my voice
the only question is,
"who am i gonna tell?"

all the people on the street seem so busy,
trying to make ends meet,
they ask me,
"what are you trying to sell?"

but can i be more like his mother,
accepting this gift without pause?
or like the humble kings,
or the shepherds who held him in awe,
adoring this king on the straw?

and when the child comes,
will i be ready to see the light?
to give up myself, without a fight?
when the moment arrives,
will i follow the path that's right,
when he comes like a thief in the night?

'tis the season to give thanks
and to share among the ranks,
because everyone deserves love without fail
if in giving we receive,
then help me give lord,
'cuz i want to believe
that your love will prevail

but can i be more like his mother,
accepting this gift of love?
or like her faithful husband,
trusting in GOD above,
when science couldn't name the cause?

and when the child comes,
will i be ready to see the light?
to give up myself, without a fight?
and when the moment arrives,
will i follow the path that's right,
as long as i face the light,
when he comes like a thief in the night?

i will prepare

deny

Written By: damian israel shiner

she was the moon when life was dark as night
she would alight my way
now i'm facing a sky without my satellite
i gotta find my own way... tonight

in the night where i wander
i can't see but i can dream
new encounters stirring wonder
feelings moving to the beat

the beat of my heart as i bled
hoping for words left unsaid
with enough emotion to fill the ocean
so i throw them into the sea where i descend
all at once i feel the sadness in my eyes
laughter start to fade, a smile begin to die,
will she deny?

whenever the night is calling out my name
i can run, but i can't hide
avoiding the light is never quite the same
in the ferment of my mind... tonight

and i'm naked in her gaze,
as i'm waking from this haze
am i making a mistake?
though my heart may get bruised,
she's the woman that i choose
out on a limb, sink or swim,
as i'm falling into the sea
where i may lose
once again i feel the sadness in my eyes
laughter start to fade, a smile begin to die,
will she deny?

and if she decides to leave me
away away
i'll be left with only blind faith
that someday someday

once again i feel the sadness in my eyes
laughter start to fade, a smile begin to die,
will she deny?

whenever the night is calling out my name
i can run, but i can't hide
avoiding the light is never quite the same
in the ferment of my mind...
i'm just hoping she will find...
courage to give this one more try...
