Biography

David Grover, former lead guitarist for Arlo Guthrie, uses his songs to teach children about the important things in life; holidays with family, planet preservation and respecting each other. A legend in the Berkshires of Massachusetts he and his Gang have performed at the White House, opened the Goodwill Games, appeared on The Today Show and performed with the Detroit Symphony in their Youth Series. Performing for the last 40+ years David has become a multi-generational tradition, time honored for his plaintive folky vocals and immaculate acoustic guitar work. Talent and universal truths were born together in performers like David and everyone can see it, from the museum coordinators to a 5th grader's hand written testament to his coolness, a feat by anyone's standards. Other credits include his PBS special "Chanukah at Grover's Corner" and the countless boys, girls and grownups who count themselves as Grover Groupies.

LIGHT IN YOU

Written By: BOB REID

There’s A Light in You
By Bob Reid

Chorus:
There’s a light in me, there’s a light in you
Whatever language you speak, whatever your point of view
Whatever people may say, whatever people may do
There’s a light in you… you must let the light shine through.

I an short; he is tall
It doesn’t matter if I am small
Whatever size I happen to be…there’s a light in me, please
Take the time to see

Chorus

My eyes are brown; hers are blue
We may not share the same point of view
Whatever your hopes and wishes and dreams… there’s a
Light that beams
It’s closer than it seems

Chorus

Now my Friend Sam says she doesn’t fit
When she wants to play the kids want to sit
Sometimes it’s hard I must admit… I hope she doesn’t quit
She’s got to keep it lit

Chorus

Watch me now, watch me now
Gonna know that I’m ok
Watch me now, watch me now

Hey Mama look at me

I’m branching out on the family tree
I’m growing up and how

So watch me now, watch me now
Hey Mama, watch me now

Hey Papa I can Wash my face
Watch me now, watch me now

Watch me now, watch me now

I’m growing up and how

So watch me now, watch me now
Hey Papa, watch me now

Hey Grandma I can tie my shoe
Watch me now, watch me now

One World

One World

One World
We’ve only got one world
One World
One wonderful world

Don’t throw your candy wrappers out the window
Don’t throw your empty bottles in the bay
Cause while the waters still delicious we’ll have happy little fishes
Don’t go hurtin Mother Earth
You’ll only hurt yourself that way

One World
We’ve only got one world
One World
One wonderful world
And if we want her to stay looking wonderful in every way
Then I recommend
That We treat her like a friend
We’ve got to learn to treat our One World like a friend

We Want To Keep Our Trees All Green And Growing
And Leave All The Animals Room To Multiply
We’ve Got To Find Us A Solution
To This Air That’s Got Pollution
Cause What We Want’s The Kind Of World
Where Birds Are Not Afraid To Fly

One World
We’ve Only Got One World
One World
One Wonderful World
And If We Want Her To Stay Looking Wonderful
In Every Way
The I Recommend, That We Treat Her Like A Friend
We’ve Got To Learn to Treat Our One World Like A Friend

One World
We’ve Only Got One World
One World
One Wonderful World
And If We Want Her To Stay Looking Wonderful
In Every Way
The I Recommend, That We Treat Her Like A Friend
We’ve Got To Treat Our One World, Care For Our wonderful One World, Love Our Wonderful One World
Like A Friend
One World We’ve Only Got One World One World One Wonderful World

The Fireman is Our Friend

Written By: David Grover

The Fireman is Our Friend

Oh, The Fireman is Our Friend
Yes, The Fireman is Our Friend
He wears big boots and a big red hat
He slids down the pole in seconds flat
You gotta be brave to do a job like that.
The Fireman is Our Friend

Oh, The Fireman is Our Friend
Yes, The Fireman is Our Friend
He knows hot and what is cool
He watches our home and he watches our school
He teaches us the fire safety rules
Yes, The Fireman is Our Friend

The Ballad of Mr Pig

Written By: David Grover

The Ballad of Mr. Pig
Words and music David Grover
A fun way for the early reader to understand some of
the mechanics of rhyming, linking the matching sounds
with the written words. Some children are naturally
gifted with rhyming; others struggle with trying to
identify the matching sounds. When I’m working with
children I try to explain rhymes simply as “two words
which sound like each other but are different” and then
provide some examples, like “band” and “land” and
“hand”, or “mat”, “bat”, “fat”. Or, as here, “pig”,
“big”, “wig”, “jig.”

Because this is a traditional folk-style ballad with a
narrative and characters, I’m hoping that classrooms
will take this song and turn it into a staged
performance. And when you do, send us your video and
we’ll try to put it on David Grover’s Facebook Page!

Now Mr. Pig was learning to spell.
He said, I don’t really spell that well.
So he went to the Library Lady and said,
I need some letters to spell my name.
And the Library Lady said, You only need three.
If you want to spell your name go “P I G.”
And you can spell Pig Pig Pig Mr. Pig Pig Pig
If you want to spell your name go “P I G.”
Now Mr. Pig was very small.
He wanted to be fat, he wanted to be tall
So he went to the Library Lady and said,
I need a letter to make me big.
And the Library Lady said, Now you listen to me.
If you want to be big, you need a B.
And you can be Big, Big, Big, Mr. Pig, Pig, Pig,
If you want to be big, you need a B.

Now Mr. Pig he had no hair.
He said, I’m bald, it’s just not fair.
So he went to the Library Lady and said,
I need a letter to give me hair.
And the Library Lady said,
Now don’t let this trouble you.
If you want some hai,r you need a W
And you can have a Wig, Wig, Wig,
And you can be Big, Big, Big,
Mr. Pig, Pig, Pig, you need a WIG.
Now Mr. Pig was happy and gay.
He wanted to dance the night away.
So he went to the Library Lady and said,
I need a letter to help me dance.
And the Library Lady said, You’ll be OK,
If you want to dance, you need a J.
And you can do the Jig Jig Jig,
Wearing your Wig Wig Wig
And you can be Big Big Big, Mr. Pig.
And every day you’ll spell a little better
‘Cause we learn to spell every single word
Letter by Letter.
