Dusty writes songs that tell a good story and searches out gems from the past that do the same.
Simply put, roots/traditional music that takes its cue from what ever can be played on any combination of guitar, banjo, bouzouki, mandolin, bass, fiddle and pipes. From Irish ballads both ancient and original to Appalachian kick-ups and modern day tales on subjects far and near, Dusty brings a heartfelt soul to all the songs he sings.
Dusty has been performing for over twenty years, has released nine CDs and was nominated for best Folk Roots recording in 2004 by the Music Industry of Nova Scotia. For many years he has provided music to the bustling crowds at local Farmer's Markets and was twice voted Best Busker in Halifax’s weekly newspaper, The Coast (1997, 2002).
He started out like many folk singers, listening to and learning from the masters, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Willie Nelson, The American Anthology of Folk Music and his songwriting reflected that Americana vibe. After traveling to Ireland in 2007, he changed course to study the folk music and folklore of Ireland as well as the language of the Gael and now concentrates on this more traditional sound. Still, a few Old Tyme songs, some foot stompers and the occasional interpretation of a Dylan classic can find its way into a show.
Over the years he has shared the stage with such notable acts as Bob Wiseman, Bob Snider, Garth Hudson, Al Tuck, Old Man Luedeke, and Amelia Curran.
