"Someone Sent Us This: Earth Rising by Max Plenke"

"What you’ll get here is Rachel Delgado’s weirdly calming, Portishead-ish, ’90s alt-vocals, stirred into a rhythm section that does anything from psychedelic to country to Latin to drum ’n’ bass-rooted percussion, all to a degree of intensely flexible comfort, more jammy than closely regimented, and just the right amount of cutesy. If you’re already a fan of Earth Rising and a big fan of its 2011 self-titled release, you’ll dig the new stuff, too. - Las Vegas CityLife

"Hovers Between the Dance Floor and the Chill-out Room"

Earth Rising is an indie quintet from Las Vegas, and their new self-titled EP is their debut release. I’ve always wondered what the grassroots music scene is like in Las Vegas, where I imagine the alternative isn’t always encouraged, but if a band like Earth Rising thrives, it can’t be all bad. Their mix of progressive, indie rock, with a Bristolian trip-hop vibe is a persuasive proposition, and in vocalist Rachel Delgado they’ve a front woman who rivals Saint Etienne’s Sarah Cracknell for uncomplicated pull.

Guitarist EJ Delgado brings a glassy precision to the project. On “Coming Home” he takes the lead, with the minimum of fuss he lays brittle chords around a flaying, muscular wall-of-sound, and the effect’s quite stunning. On “Complete” they change tack completely, Delgado’s guitar finds some funk, and the drummers / percussionists, Luis Mendez and Jon Whisenant, hit an abstract groove. Keyboards and vocals carry the melody. It’s a great track that hovers somewhere between the dance floor and the chill-out room. Six tracks in total, which is enough for now, but I hope there’s a full-length release in the pipeline.

"3.75/4 The Cream Always Rises to the Top"

The cream always rises to the top and that's exactly what Earth Rising has done on their latest EP release. The band's sound is very polished and has a soulful funk, blues and rock fused edge that is unlike 99% of the bands in today's rock genre. My favorite track on this EP is, "The Open", because of the honesty in the song's lyrics, not to mention the lead vocalist and the band's musicianship are each exceptional here. The song talks about investigating and getting down to the bottom of the lies and deception of those would want to pull the "wool" over our eyes. It's also about getting things out in the open because it's a stress reliever when everything is on the up and up. I love the light and airy sound that rides the line of funk and pop-rock giving Earth Rising a musical identity that is unique and uninhibited. I'd recommend checking this one out if you're looking for something honest and edgy, yet laid back. Other really cool songs on Earth Rising's EP include: "Coming Home", "Complete", and "Beautiful Changing World". But I will admit that this is one of the few EPs I've listened to where I genuinely liked every song and felt that it was worth adding to my personal music collection. You're going to be hard pressed to find a band this good who can put out a whole project where not one song is a "skipper". I'm sure that anyone with an ear for great music will appreciate this band's music and find their EP to be well worth the money spent. - I Am Entertainment Magazine

"5/5 Stars Wonderful Adult Contemporary Pop/Rock Music"

The talented group, Earth Rising, releases their fantastic self titled debut CD which is brimming with wonderful Adult Contemporary Pop/Rock music. This album is comprised of passionate songs that have a smooth and melodic attraction. The first track, “In the Open,” reels you in as the charming melody is sung with velvety vocals and sweet soundscapes that flow with a magical appeal. Another song, “Complete,” has a hypnotic vibe as the funky bass line complements the soulful vocals with magnetic energy. “Beautiful Changing World,” features some inspirational lyrics that are sung with a thought provoking charm. If you are searching for an album that features mellow, easy listening songs then take a listen to the terrific Adult Contemporary Pop/Rock CD, “Earth Rising” as you won’t be disappointed by these delectable tunes. - Diane and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
