Biography

Australian Contemporary Instrumentalist Fiona Joy's evocative piano and ethereal vocals have earned international acclaim.

“Fiona Joy takes over from where George Winston left off…” Cookie Marenco, Five time Grammy nominated Producer -Blue Coast Records.

When Fiona Joy teamed up with Cookie Marenco, Blue Coast Records' founder, she may not have known that her recent album Signature - Solo would be a ground breaking recording as Fiona's first solo piano album recorded live to analog tape and Blue Coast Records first native double DSD release.

As women in fields dominated by men, these cutting edge leaders decided to do something spectacular together. Recording solo piano on two-inch" analog tape, mixing to Double DSD and selling album downloads that are eight times larger than CDs would create the showpiece they wanted.

Blue Coast Records has partnered with Sony to provide music to this new high resolution music consumer. Marenco says, "Fiona's melodic solo piano and masterful performances are the perfect music to debut the kind of clarity double DSD audio brings to the home listener".

Though her native country is Australia, Fiona Joy is known through out the world for her melodic songs and lush arrangements. One of the songs on the album, Grace, has already achieved notoriety by reaching #1 on the Billboard charts when it was performed by South African flautist Wouter Kellerman and India's Ricky Kej.

Fiona Joy is no stranger to acoustic instrumental music. She has several award winning albums produced by Will Ackerman, founder of Windham Hill. Ackerman says, “One of the brightest lights in the contemporary instrumental genre, Fiona Joy is poised to move into stardom."

Fiona Joy won the internationally voted radio award (ZMR) for Best Piano Album 2103 and also the 2013 Runner up for Best Instrumental Song in the International Acoustic Music Awards and was also named Best New Age Artist for 2013. After touring extensively in the US and Australia, Fiona earned a nomination along with Pete Seeger for Best LIVE Performance album in the Independent Music Awards.

In 2013 600 Years in a Moment was recorded on a hand-made Australian piano (Stuart and Sons) with ancient instruments around the world. The album has the distinctly Celtic Flavour of her ancestors while combining sounds from other cultures. Produced by Will Ackerman, Corin Nelsen and Hawkins herself, 600 Years in a Moment was also remixed into SACD multichannel surround sound 5.1 as well as on vinyl (double gatefold).

With over 50 awards around the world, Fiona has worked with T-Bone Wolk (Hall & Oates), Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, Dire Straits), Jeff Haynes (Pat Metheny), Eugene Friesen (Paul Winter Consort), Heather Rankin, Charlie Bisharat (Shadowfax) and Rebecca Daniel (ACO) plus many others.

Earlier Quotes. “Fiona’s Blue Dream album was the most ambitious project of my entire career and resulted in one of the most remarkable collaborations this genre has ever known. Blue Dream is unique and I’m as proud of it as anything I’ve ever worked on in my 35 year career of Grammy Awards and gold /platinum records.” Will Ackerman (Founder Windham Hill Records)
