Aubrey Rachel Violet Bramble + Gregg Alexander Joseph Neville are Golden Gardens, a mystical duo up from the nocturnal underground, weaving dreamscapes and anthems for magical minds. Initially a cross country music collaboration, the project began with the duo living on separate coasts - Bramble in Seattle and Neville in Tampa, FL. After file sharing their way to a debut EP (Somnambulist, out of print) and a subsequent small-run LP (Between the Siren and the Amulet), the growing demand for live shows and increased musical output became a catalyst to bring the two musicians together geographically. Neville moved to Seattle in early 2012, and they’ve been persistently growing their following in the underground dark dance/art music scene.
Their latest release, Bellflower, is the darkly shimmering companion to Summer 2013's Narcissus. These enchanted mirror-image EPs examine the cycle of love and infatuation from two unique perspectives. Where Narcissus danced on the yellow rays of fantasy and first love, the more serious and mesmerizing Bellflower broods in the shadows of solitude and self-preservation. Their sparkling melodies dazzle and delight, advance and evolve, consistently twist and bend yet always stay true to what has become their signature, narcotic sound.
2014 saw Golden Gardens joining the impressive roster of Seattle's long-standing, world-famous Bumbershoot festival, alongside international acts Wu-Tang Clan, Elvis Costello, Panic At The Disco, Twin Shadow, and more. Other recent and notable shows include the 2014 NW Folklife Festival, as well as Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest's Annual Fundraiser with Hardly Art's La Luz, a live in-studio performance on KEXP 90.3FM, and an appearance on Plastic Jet Airline, an online music variety show in the PNW.
Golden Gardens' tracks have received radio love from around the globe on stations including WZBC Boston, WFNX Phoenix, Sydney's 94.5 FM, Munich's 92.4 FM, as well as the internationally-renowned listener-powered Seattle radio station KEXP 90.3 FM. "The Ghost of a Total Stranger" (Bellflower) was included in the Summer 2014 Under The Radar Magazine digital sampler and was John Richards' pick for Song of the Day on KEXP on January 10, 2014. "Transparent Things" from 2012's full-length How Brave The Hunted Wolves was John Richards' pick for Song of the Day on KEXP on February 1, 2013 and was also included on French Vice-subsidiary Hartzine's Summer 2012 mixtape. Among the many bands and performers Golden Gardens has shared the stage with, the most memorable events include Bumbershoot 2014 in Seattle with Wu-Tang, NEGATIVLAND, Juliana Barwick, Twin Shadow, Elvis Costello, and more; NW Folklife Festival 2014 in Seattle with Prom Queen, Baby Gramps, Low Hums; opening for INVSN led by The Refused's Dennis Lyxzen; Blissfest 2012 in Chicago with lovesliescrushing, Airiel, and New Canyons; Seattle shows with Nite Jewel and Sister Crayon; a Portland performance with Suzanne Perry of Love Spirals Downwards; and regional gigs with local and national bands such as Whirr, Kithkin, NAVVI, Cock and Swan, Pony Time, Haunted Summer, and Jason Webley.
The duo is currently at work on a new full-length album set for release in mid-2015. Spring 2015 shows include supporting Bella Union duo 2:54 in Seattle on March 8, 2015 alongside Honeyblood, and Hollow Earth Radio's Magmafest 2015 with Chastity Belt, S, Porter Ray, OCNotes, and more.
"Undeniably enchanting and mythical soundscapes ... incredibly dreamy." - KEXP
"Seattle's premier goth-gaze-techno outfit... beamed in from a European metropolis circa 1989, blurring elements of Durutti Column, Cranes, and '90s German techno from the Tresor label." - Dave Segal, The Stranger
"Aubrey Bramble’s spectral voice [is] the pitch-perfect soundtrack for an apocalyptic prom... Songs for empty cities, flashing lights, the rain turning into ice." - Nada Mucho
"Nearly equals Beach House for affecting, gothy/gauzy textures." - Kyle Fleck, The Stranger
"A welcome mixture of mystery and magic—some sort of love child of Phantogram and Purity Ring—and it results in an audio sensation that’s equal parts beautiful and heartbreaking. " - Seattle Weekly
"Highly recommended for fans of Memoryhouse, Blouse, and Seapony." - aperfectmidnightworld
