Biography

Four years ago, RAIN was an acronym for Regal, Angelic, Intelligent Nubian. The Norwalk, Connecticut powerhouse (about 5 feet 2 inches, in height) burst onto the local music scene reeking havoc. First showing off her lyrical ability on industry instrumentals, Rain came with a harsh and deliberate attack on the music industry, with the freestyle record, called "Come High". She then released her own original record, "Thuggz LuvHer". The song went number 1 in Connecticut, for ten consecutive weeks.

The fact that Rain could re-vamp some of the hottest hip hop instrumentals, and yet, create original music that held its own against the mainstream, earned her the title of "CT's 1rst Lady of Hip Hop, RnB Soul". The Connecticut music pool DJ's embraced her with open arms, hoping the world would do the same.

Today, "Rain" defines her name as a woman of action, one who "gives in abundance".

Perhaps, the change in meaning can be supported by her resume. Rain has worked side-by-side with Oscar Nominated, Will Smith on a music project for 8 months. She has opened for several major artists (Ja Rule, Ne-Yo, Jagged Edge, Juelz Santana, Kurtis Blow, Brand Nubian, Young Buck) and starred, as a cast member, for Grammy Winner, Murphy Lee's (Nelly's St. Lunatics) reality TV show, "Da Grind". She has performed on multiple occasions, at world renowned venues, such as: Toads Place of New Haven, CT, and Sounds of Brazil (S.O.B's) in New York.

One could say, it is her recent coronation, by the Connecticut Holla Back Music Video Awards, as the 2008 "Best Female RnB Artist of The Year", that helps define her talent as a generous gift to all who hear it.

She has supplied her supporters with an album, a mini-magazine, an Underground Music Award Nomination for "Most Promising Female Singer of 2008", and a win on BET's 106 & Park Wild Out Wednesday Competition, all in one year!

Still, whatever the reason for re-defining "Rain", it is obvious that she has plenty to offer the world of music.

Rain's voice is able to comfort, excite, chastise, and coax with every coo and hum. She has a unique soulful, jazzy vocal style. Part R&B, part hip-hop, part classic soul, in equal measure. Her music is a unique blend of solid RnB melodies, classic soul harmonies, and clever hip-hop lyrics, offering something fresh, interesting, and compelling to music-lovers everywhere!

With the release of her second album "The Grey Area..." (currently available on Myspace.com/IamRain2) Rain has proven that she will not stop showering listeners with beautiful music. Growing more powerful by the moment, her sophomore album speaks volumes over her debut, "eavesdrop..." (currently available on iTunes). Both records, however, are a cut above the norm and a testament to her consistency as a singer, song writer and performer who is willing to continue growing.

With Rick Steel and Buck 3000, of Murder Inc. Records affiliation, on the production and mixes, respectively; "The Grey Area..." has 8 undeniable tracks. The album was recorded in the Murder Inc. Studios, and Rain is said to have outdone herself, but still hasn't sat down to enjoy it.

Instead, Rain's future is in her new nickname, "The Lady Bug". She has shed her dreadlocks of 6 years, to prepare for her third album, "Sincerely, Ms. Raphael...(The Lady Bug Album)" This third album can be described as an effort possessing the soul and grace of a modern day Billie Holiday, in jeans. Promising to deliver true stories from the life of a woman who has endured many growing pains.
She plans to take a new approach to music, ever changing and evolving, but always "giving in abundance". Supplying her fans with meaty lyrics, chunky musicality and heavy swagger. It's a lot to swallow, to say the least...but fulfilling for those who try!

For, "Into each life, some Rain must fall..."
-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Lyrics

Inside

Written By: Rain

Verse one:

The life I own ain't easy mm mm!
And sometimes I wanna throw in my hand
And when it comes to
Owning your shame (your shame)
I understand
I understand, yeah
Yeah.
I've had my share of lovers
It may be one, or a hundred named, yeah
But the fact is I feel the need to apologize
for love I gave
The girl I was made some mistakes, nah mean?

Chorus:

And every smilin' face ain't happy (Every smiling face ain't happy)
And when the sun shine all day long you know (You know that, Somewhere)
Somewhere it's Rainin' (oooh)
Inside (Oooh Inside)

Verse 2:

Listen.
Does anybody out there know?
Really really know
How it feels?
To be Hungry?
To be Lonely?
To be Worried late at night? (Late at night, worried)
I've cried, I've cried, and I've cried and I've cried

Chorus

Bridge:

Ya see, Somebody out there is weak tonight
Somebody in here
Traded in their pride
And I
Know somebody sick of fightin'
Somebody's barely survivin'
Outside they smilin'
But inside? Inside it's Rainin'

Diamondz

Written By: J. Rain Raphael

Chorus:

Don't let 'em deplete your shine or
Treat you like a rhinestone
Baby, you remind them
To treat you like a Diamond

Verse One:

This is for my bid-doing brothers
Think nobody loves ya, no one writes but your mother?
I love ya!
All the fellas left without help
Tryin'a raise themselves, I feel ya.
And all the cats just chillin' on the ave?
Hat backwards?
You don't deserve to be asked
Questions, harrassed, 'xpected to Have reason for casual
Laughs with your boys. Should enjoy just being.
I guess 'the boys" ain't seeing
What I see
When I see you,
Canary yellow, black, to deep water blue, diamonds.

The ghettos a mine and then
Life then
Cuts and refines them!
I see you and you shinin'
And if they don't then
They blind or dumb!

Chorus (2 times)

Verse Two:

This is for my day-to-day sistahs, "make a way" misses, everyday magicians, keep your chin lifted!
All my ladies pushin' these babies
Tryn'a pay these bills? I'm with ya!
I'm giving back to the mothers of the hood.
Without nothing,
Do all they could to feed babies, birth to babies, and teach raising
men, to ladies.

Diamonds, the ghettos a mine and life then, cuts and refines them! I see you, and you shinin'!
And if they don't, then,
You gon' shine alone!

Chorus (repeat to end)

Come High

Written By: J. Rain Raphael

Chorus:

You betta come high like the tide if you're comin'
Betta get deep like the lines in a poem
Betta come swift, like your time is runnin' out homey
Sleep? If you wink, you gon' miss your moment

Verse one:

I got no time to waste
Put me on a mixtape, fast!
Spit it and deliver it as if it was my last and final
My back's to the wall
Can't get a deal and I'm grindin', y'all
Excuse me sir, please listen to my demo.
Label executive, offer your acceptance. Hello.
My name is Rain- He ignored me like I never asked him.
I'm frustrated, 'cause he's actin' like he never had to...
Grind it out , Now
Who gon' feed the mouths of my family?
They standin' on me, understand me?
On my shoulders I carry heavy boulders
The doors don't open 'till I blow a whole floor up!
Who's from the streets? Me.
Tryn' stack g's? me.
Never ever sleeps? Me.
But y'all don't hear me.
Y'all can see me but you don't feel me.
Yeah...

Chorus

Verse two:

One liccle shawty wanna be a supastar. This liccle shawty is a star by far.
They can't see me changin' the game.
Be claimin' they need heat, I got, but am I signed? Nah.
'Cause I'm too original and they're so political. I can get it though, 'cause I just won't stop.
And it don't stop, 'till I see heads bob.
From Antarctica, up to Alaska.
I been hott!
Industry ya gotta catch up.
I'll run laps around all these signed actors.
But Rain ain't here to be a biz basher.
I give the world great music that it asks for.
If I'm never rich? koo! Just don't let me stay poor.
Give me opportunity to give my kids a little more.
Are you feelin' this shit?
Should I be the next? Shit,
Rain is the best!
I'm the illest in Connecticut.

Chorus (repeat to end)

Thuggz LuvHer

Written By: J. Rain Raphael

Into: I'ma Party! That's what I'ma do. Whew! Awww shit!

Chorus:

I'm a thug lover. I swear to God for me there is no other. Souljah hugger. It's somethin' bout those jean tuggers, and I love my brothers. Who got that real shit to say? Always make my day when I see 'em round the way.

Verse one:

Round the way,
He decorates my block.
Look like a moving sculpture carved outta chocolate rock. Mmmm!
He's not easy to unlock
Takes a tough lady to reveal his soft spot.
Keeps a fitted cocked. Rockin' four socks.
Love to be prepared just incase he gets popped.
Pocket warmin' glocks.
Top lip full of rocks.
Not easy to be shaken.
Never scared never shocked.
Hoodies when it's cold.
Beaters when it's hot.
Denim year round, gotta keep alotta slots.
Timbo's high-top.
Work around the clock.
Got two cell phones, one rings non-stop.
Trips to go cop.
This time, from the cops.
He avoids the cell block
by the fences that he hopped.
Too strong to be shot.
Makes it in. The door locks.
Starin' in my face is his baby that I rock. Mmmm.

Chorus

"Where you been! Had me straight trippin. The lights cut off! Ain't no food in the kitchen, the baby been cryin'!"
Stop, for a second.
Can see my baby stressin'
I can tell by his expression.
"Are they comin'g for you babe? It's gon' be okay. Got people uptown, where we can go stay. Use what you made today. Go and get away. Lay low for awhile, for a couple days... But call and tell me you're okay. Let me know your safe. You know that I worry... Go 'head Boo hurry."
Pack a few things. "I'ma get the baby changed."
A few phone calls. Get everything arranged.
"Here's a candle. There's matches on the table. Let me see your cell phone. I'ma see if Mom's home, hold on."
Ain't nothing changed.
"You know I love you babe?"
And he said he loves you Rain. That's what they hell I'm sayin'.

Chorus

Bridge:

Well let me take ya round the way.
Round the way (round the way, round the way)
Round the way (round the way, round the way)
Round the way (He got that real shit to say)
Round the way (He got that real shit to say)

Said I'm a thug lover. (Got to be that)
I'm a souljah hugger. (Lord knows, that I)
And I love my brothers. (Who's got that real shit to say?)
Always make my day when I see 'em round the way.

'Cause you wouldn't matter

Are you delirious? (Girl)
You can't compete (Girl)

'Cause I am that "thang"

And you are not Me
You'll never be on my status
