JahQuest has coined the term “Brazilian Reggae” to describe their unique blend of Brazilian styles such as Samba, Baiao, Capoeira and Afoxe’ with the traditional roots reggae of the late seventies. JahQuest was officially founded in 2002, however the first CD was released June 2007. Their songs are in English and Portuguese and their sound in comparison to other bands ranges from Third World, Steel Pulse to Brazilian groups O Rappa and Chico Science. Official band members are: Bryan Avey, the lead vocalist/guitarist also the composer and arranger for all the songs. Andre Luther, drummer & back up vocalist. Jacques Lilavois, bassist and back up vocalist. Edu-Bahia, percussionist. Bryan met Andre while attending a Brazilian church in Culver City, Ca. EduBahia shared the vision of the music as well, being one who loves reggae and Afro-Brazilian music. The last member to join was Jacques Lilavois, of Haitian descent, a perfect feel for the bass & Jennifer V from East LA on percussion.
