Biography

Jake began playing guitar at 10 years of age...In a duo with brother, singing in talent quests for crates of cola / movie tickets etc.

He took it up more seriously at 19...going on the road as a backing guitarist /support singer for known national entertainment celeb.

Got bored with that...got into folk & Blues clubs and sold a few tunes to local recording artists.

Got signed by several publishers including Chappell, and did radio/TV appearances as song-writer, but dropped out of the industry before he really got established. Was a top10 finalist in major national song comps in both NZ and Aust...

Kicked a few local goals 'round the place, including 'Best Original Composition' in a Regional Arts Awards, and a Government Arts Grant to record.

A distributor picked up his album and he's now looking for concert/festival gigs/tours, or as 'Opening Act' for Established band/Duo etc. Jake also has a handful of ballad-type songs for sale...write and ask for samples.

In 2008 his CD 'Just like That!' was a nomination for "Best Blues and Roots" album, of the year in the ARIA awards (National recording Industry awards)

Another Christmas in Paradise

Written By: Jake Lloyd Jones

Christmas trees are glistening
Holly and mistletoe -
Goodwill on earth to all men
Why the love just overflows
What a joy it is to live here
How pleasant and how nice
The world is full of love and peace
Another Christmas in Paradise
Another Christmas in Paradise

There are no children crying
No parent in distress -
No bombs or bullets flying
(We can put our minds at rest)
There is no racial hatred
We love diversity
We're tolerant and big-hearted
there is no bigotry

And Christmas bells are ringing
Holly and mistletoe -
Goodwill on earth to all men
Why the love just overflows
What a joy it is to live here
How pleasant and how nice
The world is full of love and peace
Another Christmas in paradise
Another Christmas in paradise

Everybody loves their neighbour
Everybody cares
No one is left to stand alone
No one is on the edge
Nobody goin' hungry
There is no want or need
We can sleep full and contented
(Our conscience is at ease)

And Christmas choirs are singing
Holly and mistletoe
Goodwill on earth to all men
Why the love just overflows
What a joy it is to live here
How pleasant and how nice
The world is full of love and peace
Another Christmas in paradise
Another Christmas in paradise

Western Ways

Written By: Jake Lloyd Jones

I was just sixteen
Still wet and green
Off to work...
Like some robotic cartoon
Along the Great South Road
Thru' a town called Penrose
Choking on the factory smoke
And car fumes

I'd just left school
With its kid gloves and rules
And this adult's world
Sure looked sick and twisted
Pollutted air
Poisons everywhere
(If there was 'a truth'
I really thought we'd missed it
(And I was thinking to myself)

There'll be a price to pay
For our western ways
The environment
And the innocent will suffer
It's the lie that we've lived
And refuse to give up
That will bring this world
To the brink of disaster

Well it's all about perspectives
(Like everything, I guess)
An industrialist's dream
Or an environmentalist's nightmare
And we can find all the excuses
And euphemisms for it
But clearly there are those who do
And who don't care

Now big old Al's got a tale to tell
Everybody oughta...
Get on out and see it
He's strring it up
All the way to the top
Truth is truth
And it's sometimes inconvenient

There's a price to be paid
For our western ways
the environment
And other cultures suffer
It's the lie that we live
And refuse to give up
That has bought this world
To the brink of disaster

The piper played
And the rats amazed
Followed...
In a dull hypnotic stupor

Who Are You Pretty Lady?

Written By: Jake Lloyd Jones

I see you at the market
Each week on a Thursday
(Well...most weeks on a thursday)
'Round twelve-thirty.

We glance at eachother
Sometimes smiling shyly -
But you're there...
And then You're gone so quickly

And sometimes you avoid me
Like you're wrestling with a problem
you made some remark
About the children

I would like to get to know you
But you're so hard to get close to
You look then dissappear
Into the day...

Who are you pretty lady?
What are you to me?
I don't even know your name
Who are you in the matrix?
And...where do you belong?
Why do you stir me this?

I think I've seen your soul
I think I know your hunger...
A longing for something
Much deeper

And you wanna go there soon
But you're also apprehensive
Changing direction
Can be scary

Who are pretty lady?
What are you to me?
I don't even know your name
Who are you in the matrix
And...where do you belong?
Why do you stir me like...
Why do you stir me like...
Why do you stir me like this?

Jukebox Jake

Written By: Jake Lloyd Jones

See him sitting on a stool
'Till the clock strikes twelve
Singing for the drunks
And the nightowls -
Half of them are laughing
Half of them are crying
Half of them are living
And the other half are dying

Give him a dollar
Give him a shake
A musical machine
That's Jukebox Jake
Book him for your party
Book him for a wake
He'll even do a wedding...
Jukebox Jake!

Well he'll play all your favourites
Just the way they sound
He can turn on the tears
Or he can play the clown
Whatever you want
He's a singin' and a playin'
He's yours for the night
(If you're the one who's payin')

Give him a dollar
Give him a shake
A musical puppet
That's Jukebox Jake
Book him for your party
Book him for a wake
He'll even do a wedding...
Jukebox Jake!

Now Jake...he's a writer
Of poetry and song
Says he's got some things to say
'Bout what is 'right 'n' wrong'
Yeah...but who these days
Is listening to meaningful and arty?
Nobody wants to concentrate...
They only wanna party!

Slot another dollar
Give the thing a shake -
A musical machine
That's Jukebox Jake
Book him for your party
Book him for a wake
He'll even do a wedding...
Jukebox Jake!
(X3)

He'll even do a wedding...
Jukebox Jake!
(X2)

'Long Shadows'

Written By: Jake Lloyd Jones

The house was swept
And the windows veiled
Long Shadows...
The gardens, manicured
For sale
Long Shadows...

Everything has its day
A season of purpose in time
Everything rusts or fades
Leaving only a memory behind

You said you felt like it was;
"Time to go"
Long Shadows...
In the winter sun,
Late afternoon
Long Shadows...

Everyone has their day
A moment of glory in time
Everyone rusts or fades
Leaving only a memory behind

As we lay your body
In the earth
Long Shadows...
We say a prayer
And sprinkle dirt
Long Shadows...

See the clouds racing by
Time has lost its grip upon you now
See you on the other side
Running free to morning glory bells

The house is swept
And the windows veiled
Long Shadows...
