Jennifer Hill and Co.
JENNIFER HILL & CO. ARE NOT JUST A BAND, BUT A MUSICAL COCKTAIL OF BLONDIE,CAROL KING, FIONA APPLE, PINK FLOYD AND STEVIE NICKS MIXED WITH A FAT ASS PIANO POUNDING BEAT. THE SOUND SPEAKS FOR ITSELF...YOU SWEAR YOU HEARD HER BEFORE...BUT YOU DIDN'T. JENNIFER HILL IS AN ORIGINAL.
With Jennifer Hill and Co. currently winners of Best Female vocalist in 2009's Hartford Advocate Grand Band Slam, and nominated in 5 other categories including best Indie and best Pop band, it's hard to believe this band has only hit the scene a few years ago.
Coming together as a group of strangers from both coasts and from different musical backgrounds Jennifer Hill and Co have a distinct vibe that is all their own.Often described as a "piano soul collective" the sound is a musical martini of pop, rock, punk, jazz, soul, and funk shaken together with a piano pounding beat.
Jen is a little off her rocker. She likes to dress for the part and be a bit cheeky with the audience. The audience is a key part of the show after all... and Jen's comedic interaction and life stories are a valued part of the performance.
One reader of the Hartford Advocate described her "like a twisted Fiona Apple with a little more spunk"...the Advocate's remark was "Now, Fiona's pretty twisted already,(this is the girl who said she's "break a boy just because she can,")..."So it's easy to see why Jennifer Hill and Co. stick in people's minds" Dan Barry (Hartford Advocate 2009)
The band's influences range from The Beatles, Massive Attack, Bjork, Ben Folds, Pink Floyd, Fiona Apple, Blondie, Madonna,Sarah Vaughn, Esthero, Led Zeppelin to...everything you can possibly think of. These music geeks have been doing it all their lives and classical music is just as relevant to their music as is B.B King's Watermelon Album.
To describe the sound would be like describing a painting full of different layers. Each one of them representing a different place in time, a different emotion and a different feel.On the song "Breath Easy" It's Blondie with Pink Floyd, Tori Amos, and Chrissie Hynde in the mix."Tough Year" is old school soul mixed with pop, and the song "Down Low" is a brooding tale of lust and love finally merging with the climax of the song squealing out in porn star perfection. "Pull off your Wings" is White Stripes mixed with a bit of jazz and a bit of Fiona Apple.

Up All Night
Written By: Jennifer Hemphill
Once again I'm up all night stumbling through the dark.
Looking for just a little light so that I can make my mark.
I put on some coffee I'm up for good.
Need something to wake up my mind.
But nothing matters when words don't come out and nothing's sounding right.
You say you want me to stay.
That there's no other way to solve the problem at hand.
But you don't understand it's too hard to love a man who breaks every promise he offers.
Although my hands may seem softer my heart is tougher made that way by the bruises collected.
Through the strains of time I put myself into rewind to remember all the hurt I was subjected.
Seeing into what's really there, I try and I try and I rtry to let go.
But not with you cause you're always there and you won't let me go.

MY BABY HE'S HURT BUT HE DON'T WANNA CRY
I WOULD GIVE HIM SUPPORT IF THE TIMING WAS RIGHT
CAUSE I KNOW HE NEEDS ME BUT SOMETIMES HE NEEDS TO BE ALL ALONE
I WOULD HOLD YOU ALL NIGHT MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE
I WOULD MAKE IT ALL RIGHT IF I KNEW THAT I COULD
CAUSE YOU ARE THE REASON THAT I'M HERE ON THIS EARTH AND I DON'T WANNA SEE YOU CRY
HOOK: CAUSE IT'S BEEN A TOUGH YEAR FOR US ALL
AND WE TRY NOT TO SCREAM AS WE FALL
CAUSE WE NEED TO BE STRONG TO SURVIVE WHAT IS BRINGING US OUT OF THIS LIFE
OUT OF THIS LIFE
THE PHONE RANG TOO EARLY TO BE GOOD
AND I WOKE UP TO HEAR YOU TRY NOT TO CRY
AND I FEEL LIKE I'VE BEEN THERE BEFORE BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO
PUT YOUR HEAD IN MY LAP MY LOVE
FEEL THE WARMTH OF MY SKIN AS IT HEALS YOU
I WILL TRY TO EASE YOUR MIND, I WILL BE THE ONE TO PROTECT YOU

Little girl in a tight dress, Little girl you are a mess.
little girl in your mama's shoes, little girl why don't you sing the blues?
Chorus: Cause everyone's talking, they all know your name, you try to be simple but it's not your thing.
Everyone's waiting for you to mess up,but you've got to stay high
Never looking past the smile, being played all the while, you've got everything you want, played the game and then got caught!
Bridge: They will kick you down and they'll make you drown they'll steal your last dying breath, but don't let it in, don't repent your sin, just believe you are the best.
Look around the streets are bare, they can see you everywhere. Watch the water getting cold, laughing faces, growing old..
