Knifight is a five-piece indie-electronic rock band from Austin, Texas that has made themselves known for their crushing live performances and pairing catchy dance-punk anthems with moody experimental atmosphere. Influenced by Joy Division, LCD Soundsystem, John Maus, The Cure, New Order, ect.Share
Since relocating the band in 2010, Knifight has been distinguishing themselves as one of premiere bands in the Austin music scene live and on record. Formed in 2002 as a solo IDM/noise project of singer John Gable, Knifight has slowly evolved into a fleshed-out quintet of five distinct songwriters, producers and instrumentalists. Mixing the melodic tendencies and electronic experimentation of bands like Joy Division, New Order and LCD Soundsystem with the intensity of punk rock and post-punk, along with John Gable's monstrous baritone and fiery performances, the members of Knifight have created music that is both introspective and widely accessible.
In the summer of 2013 Knifight released their debut album Dark Voices digitally and on vinyl and CD after a successful Kickstarter campaign. With a new-found affinity for vintage analog synths and the help of co-producers Alex Bhore and Christopher King of post-rock band This Will Destroy You, Dark Voices finds the band dabbling in integrating analog textures and layers of ambience into its infectiously dark dance numbers.
Known for their intensely energetic live performances, Knifight has had the opportunity to play official showcases at SXSW 2011, 2012 and 2013 in addition to being asked to open for the likes of Future Islands, Active Child, Com Truise, White Denim, The Octopus Project, M83 and Thomas Dolby among others. The band has also received much love from local and national radio stations, including an hour-long exclusive spot as well as several interviews and guest DJ opportunities.
Knifight is currently touring through 2013 and 2014 while writing for the follow-up to 2013's Dark Voices album.
