I believe that great songs are those ones which touch your heart and make you feel emotions based on the lyrics your hearing. If you were to listen to my "Funeral Ballad", you would hear such a song. A great song is one that the majority of people listening can relate to. To most veterans it's GREAT

Blank Check

Blank Check

© 2007 Laurence Butterfield

Chorus:
A veteran is a man or woman
Who at one point in their life
Wrote a blank check payable
Up to and including their life

Verse:
When is the last time
That you thanked a veteran
Or thought about what it means
To be this man or woman

Verse:
This check was payable to you
And to the country they love
They deserve the highest respect
Save God above

Verse:
This used to be something
That this country used to understand
But since Korea and Viet Nam
Something has changed in this land

Chorus:
A veteran is a man or woman
Who at one point in their life
Wrote a blank check payable
Up to and including their life

Verse:
This is meant as a heartfelt thanks
To all veterans who serve
Whether you be active duty, retired
National Guard or reserve

Verse:
I pray that this country
Will do a turnaround
And honor all of those
Who stand our ground

Verse:
May the uniforms once again
Be worn with pride
And all the political issues
Be cast aside

Chorus:
A veteran is a man or woman
Who at one point in their life
Wrote a blank check payable
Up to and including their life

Verse:
Now I’m not asking for
You to support the war
But that you honor the soldier
And what their check stands for

Verse:
Who, but a veteran
Writes a blank check for anything
Especially when the amount
Risks absolutely everything

Chorus:
A veteran is a man or woman
Who at one point in their life
Wrote a blank check payable
Up to and including their life

That’s what a veteran is
And I wish to salute you
For all you have done
And that which you do

You Didn't Know What You Were Doing

You Didn’t Know What You Were Doing

© 2007 Laurence Butterfield

Verse:
You have confessed to me
That you had an affair
Did you forget about that
Golden band that you wear?

Chorus:
You claim that you didn’t
Know, what you were doing
That you had too much to drink
But I’ll tell you what I think

Verse:
Drink can’t make a person cheat
Who doesn’t already want to go.
Now it may sound simple
But all you had to say was no!

Verse:
You say that you’re sorry …
That it was just a one night stand
That you didn’t intend to cheat
It was not something you planned

Chorus:
You claim that you didn’t
Know, what you were doing
That you had too much to drink
But I’ll tell you what I think

Verse:
You want me to forgive …
To tell you everything’s okay.
To remain by your side
Is where you want me to stay.

Verse:
You swear it won’t happen again
On this I can depend …
But now my trust in you is gone
And I have no desire to pretend

Chorus:
You claim that you didn’t
Know, what you were doing
That you had too much to drink
But I’ll tell you what I think

Bridge:
I wonder how you’d react
If I had cheated on you
Would you say that’s okay
Or say that we are through?

Bridge:
What if I blamed it on drink
Or it would never have happened
Would you remain at my side
Or would I be abandoned

Chorus:
You claim that you didn’t
Know, what you were doing
That you had too much to drink
But I’ll tell you what I think

Tag:
By the way you’re carrying on
I guess you really didn’t …
Know, what you were doing
Not even the slightest hint

What My Heart Sees

What My Heart Sees

© 2007 Laurence Butterfield

Verse:
If you could only see
What my heart sees

Verse:
We have been married over 30 years
We’ve seen happiness and many tears.
Now you show a little gray in the hair
And I have hardly any left there.

Chorus:
But darling, when I look at you
My heart still sees the woman you were at twenty two
With those sparkling eyes of blue.
When I look at you, I still get weak in the knees
‘Cause this is what my heart still sees.

Verse:
It’s true, we’ve both gained some pounds
And Lord knows we’ve been around.
We are not young anymore
And for the way we look there is no cure.

Chorus:
But darling, when I look at you
My heart still sees the woman you were at twenty two
With those sparkling eyes of blue.
When I look at you, I still get weak in the knees
‘Cause this is what my heart still sees.

Verse:
Yes, we’re both over the hill
But there’s not another that would fit the bill.
You’ve stood by my side
Throughout this long, long ride
And by my side is where I pray you’ll stay
‘till it’s time for judgment day.

Verse:
You’ve been my lover, my wife, my friend
And I know until this life shall end
No matter how we may look to others
My heart sees you like that of a mothers

Chorus:
But darling, when I look at you
My heart still sees the woman you were at twenty two
With those sparkling eyes of blue.
When I look at you, I still get weak in the knees
‘Cause this is what my heart still sees.

Bridge:
Now how you think you look
Should not be a big concern
Once you know and learn
That what true love sees
Can never be mistook.

Chorus:
But darling, when I look at you
My heart still sees the woman you were at twenty two
With those sparkling eyes of blue.
When I look at you, I still get weak in the knees
‘Cause this is what my heart still sees.
