"Rated Next | Lex Lu"

Where are you from and where are you now?
I was raised in Los Angeles where I currently reside.

How did you get started in the music industry?
I started as a dancer for other artists. Then it turned to artist development for artists. At that point I decided to develop myself as my own artist. Devine Evans locked me in a recording studio for almost a year until i found my sound. I then dropped my first project currently on iTunes “The Adventures of Lex Lu”

What artists or producers have you worked with throughout your music career?
As a dancer I worked with Jennifer Lopez, Missy Elliot, Shakira, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, and Kanye West to name a few. Musically i’ve worked with producers/artists such as B SLade, Devine Evans,Y2, Shock Lion, Derek, Morten, Mateo Laboriel, Girl Crush, Anjelia, Roshon, Molly Mawlz, David Sebastian, Mister Mex, Rome Fortune, Noize Beatz, Big D, Scraps Slaps, Track Martians, K Theory, Verbs The Homie, IAMXLOVE, YS, Milli Milez, Blake, Curtis Bradford, and so many more.

What inspires you to make music? Who inspires you?
The need to be heard. The need to inspire. The need to release. All things that motivate me. I love the avenue of communication being an artist gives me. I get a platform to speak my mind. The person that inspires me the most is my Lil Lion Sebastian. The legacy I want to leave him is that he can be whoever he wants. That he can take any path he chooses. Living proof.

What are some of your greatest accomplishments?
I’ve been blessed to travel all over the world. I’ve pet lion cubs in Angola and held koalas in Australia . Moon danced with the Zulu tribe in South Africa and blew trees with Snoop in Amsterdam. Even with all that my greatest accomplishment is my Lil Lion.

Do you have new music coming out any time soon?
I’ve been cooking up new music all year and I’m close to finding my next single. My current visual “Watch The Crown” ft + prod by Y2 can be seen on Vevo.

What message do you want to get across to the younger generation?
Anything is possible… So dream. Then figure out your destination and grind till you get there. There is NO other way. - @noritabango - Alwayz Therro Magazine

"Broke LA Is Ushering in a New Generation of Hip Hop, and You Need to Pay Attention"

The Broke LA Festival is poised to show its strongest and most interesting line-up to date—especially when it comes to hip hop. In an industry dominated by stereotypes, Lex Lu and Kleber Jones are two Los Angeles-based artists performing at the April 23 fest who break the mold and challenge conventional perceptions of the genre, reminding us that hip hop has always been more diverse and than some of its stereotypes might suggest.

Lu began her career as a dancer for some of the biggest names in hip hop (Missy Elliot, Snoop Dogg, Jay Z). But it was Missy—with whom Lu started touring with when she was only 16—and Lu’s brother, Y2, who had the biggest impact on her artistry. “He is one of the most influential people I have in my life,” she says of her brother. “He’s pretty much revolutionized who I am as an artist and a human being. He’s revolutionized the way I see myself and the world.” Y2’s touch is most evident on her song Watch The Crown, which he produced. He is also featured on the track. “It was easy to put everything together because it was such an emotion,” she says. “He’s taught me how to be powerful—to find the power within me. Women are the most powerful. We create life. I didn’t value myself like that before, and now it’s like, we’re amazing and can do so many things. That song is really everything to me.”

With role models like Janis Joplin (her favorite artist), Missy Elliot, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Gwen Stefani, it’s no wonder Lu radiates authentic individuality. She is forging a reputation for herself as an innovator who can incorporate disparate influences into a cohesive sound. Even her personality and fashion sense are amalgamations of her cherrypicked inspirations: playful and colorful with an undeniable confidence, the last of which allows Lu to stay true to herself despite pressure to do the opposite. “I want to be a pop artist, I want to be a rapper, I want to do all this stuff,” she says. “Where is that lane? We always try to fit ourselves in a box, and it sucks because nobody is the same all the time. We have emotions, different events in our lives affect us differently, and it sucks that we have to be put into this little box.” - Lowell Taylor - LA MAGAZINE

Our friend Glass The Tramp highly recommended CelebNMusic247.com to check out female MC Lex Lu.

“She is off the chain and the next artist on the rise to watchout for.”

CelebNMusic247.com is bringing you the Queen of the Underground to the forefront – because if you didn’t already know about Lex Lu, then you’re about to.

Glass The Tramp, Lex Lu and another artist on the rise Jonny Goood who was spotted at Elation Studios in North Hollywood (seen below):
Who is Lex Lu?

She is a Los Angeles native better known as Lex Lu. She is the Queen of the Underground when it comes to high energy hip hop. She killed it at this years SXSW. Currently Lex is still an unsigned artist, but with the buzz she is getting from the music industry it’s only a matter of time before she gets signed.

Lex credits much of her raw, high energy stylings from her wide-range of influences from Janis Joplin to Missy Elliott continuously recreating that undeniable quality in her music.

Lex Lu demands your attention with her debut album, “The Adventures of Lex Lu” featuring upbeat tracks like “Weirdo”, “Money”, and “Clouds”.
The next time someone talks about Lex Lu, make sure you remember that CelebNMusic247.com told you first.

"Ty Dolla $ign, Fetty Wap Join ‘Mic Pass at SXSW’"

Pepsi puts a hip-hop spin on its Out of the Blue campaign, enlisting 8 artists to record impromptu freestyles during the SXSW Music Festival in Austin in March. Hit makers Ty Dolla $ign, Fetty Wap and Young Money’s Shanell were joined by up-and-comers Young Star, Lex Lu, Scholar and Q. Guyton.

In keeping with the Out of the Blue concept, some of the artists were recruited on the spot. Ty Dolla $ign said he is glad Pepsi selected him to be a part of the program. “I’m excited,” he told Yahoo Music. “I can’t wait to see what people think about it. Even better they chose me to do the hook.”

Ty is one of hip-hop’s most sought after featured artists. His current single “Drop That Kitty” features Charli XCX and Tinashe and he has recorded songs with Wiz Khalifa, YG, Kid Ink, Snoop Dogg, B.o.B, Zendayah, among others. He approached recording “Mic Pass at SXSW” the same way he handles all of his projects. “When it comes to making a song, whatever the beat tells me to do, I do,” he said.

It also wasn’t difficult for him to connect to the Out of the Blue concept, noting that some people assumed that he was an overnight success. “Really, I’ve been working forever, just doing music, and then all of a sudden, out of the blue, everybody is just on it. I’m happy and thankful that people are messing with the Dolla $ign.”

Ty, whose official debut album Free TC is due this year, thinks the segment turned out great and made a special nod to fellow featured artists, his friend Fetty Wap and female MC Lex Lu. “I’m a big fan of Fetty Wap. We also got some songs coming out he’s on my album as well,” he said. “He killed his verse.” Ty gave Lex her props, saying, that she “came in a bodied everybody so salute to her.”

“Mic Pass at SXSW” revisits the Pepsi Smash Mic Pass series that ran on Yahoo Music from 2005-2010 and featured all-star lineups of hip-hop artists recording songs together at various locations across the U.S. Original Mic Pass producers, creator and executive producer Chris Slater, and music producer Tone Toven, helmed this SXSW episode. Any subsequent segments have not been announced.

'The Four: Battle for Stardom' - Who Is Lex Lu? | EXCLUSIVE
By Nicole Mastrogiannis

January 2, 2018

The Four: Battle For Stardom is finally here. The new singing competition show is unlike anything music fans have seen, because it all begins where most other shows end: with the four FINALISTS.

Four very talented singers will defend their spots on stage as they are challenged individually by new singers determined to replace them. If the existing four outperform their challengers, they survive to sing another week, until the end of the season, when the final four face off against each other. But, only one will claim the ultimate prize for an aspiring artist: a team of elite star-makers – the series’ panel of judges (DJ Khaled, Puff Daddy, Meghan Trainor, and Charlie Walk) – all committed to launching and guiding the winner’s music career.

Not only will the winner's career launch with the help of the judges, they will also become iHeartRadio's "On the Verge" artist; an artist development program supporting the winner with airplay across iHeartMedia radio stations nationwide. This program has helped launched the careers of artists like Sam Smith, Fifth Harmony and Nick Jonas, among others.

So, who are The Four contestants kicking off The Four: Battle for Stardom? Say hello to Blair Perkins, Ash Minor, Lex Lu, and Elanese Lansen. iHeartRadio recently got to know more about each budding artist during an exclusive interview. So ... Meet Alexis "Lex Lu" Boyd.

Lex Lu is a rapper and singer born and raised in Los Angeles. Following her career as a backup dancer, Lex has spent the last five years focusing on her solo artistry, and even released an album independently. She tells iHeartRadio, "If you listen to my music, it's a little bit of everything. Yes I rap, but I also sing. I have pop songs and hip hop songs and rock songs and emo songs and punk songs. I'm all over the place. But my favorite thing to do is rap. I can write some really dope lyrics."

Read on to learn more about Lex Lu below.

MUSICAL INFLUENCES:
"I am heavily influenced by Missy Elliott. Gwen Stafani, Left Eye so TLC, the whole group. And like Kendrick Lamar. I'm a huge Janis Joplin fan. Just a lot of random, but amazing artists. But those are my faves."

MOST NERVOUS ABOUT:
"I'm really nervous about ... well for TV, for reality television, it's really easy to be kind of molded into something you're not. And to kind of get excited with the lights and like everything, and become inauthentic. So for me, the biggest thing is staying true to myself. That's like the scariest thing that I'm like nervous about. It's just not being able to be myself."

STRATEGY TO WIN:
"My strategy is being the best me I can. I am rapper, so I'm a little bit different from the others. As a female rapper, I'm going to be challenged a lot by, I'm pretty sure, a lot of amazing MCs, and I think the thing that I just have to focus on the most is smashing every MC bar for bar. And then not only that, but killing my performances."

WHAT IT WOULD MEAN TO WIN THE FOUR:
"If I won The Four, it would be pretty epic, because I've been working so hard trying to come out and present myself to the world as this independent, powerhouse rapper, pop star thing. It's really difficult. So, I think that given the platform that FOX has, The Four has, that iHeartRadio has, it'd just be amazing. As an independent artist, it's like a dream come true because you almost can't even buy that. It's really difficult when you do everything yourself. So the platform that, if I win, would just be pretty epic. I'm really excited because I'm going to go hard this whole season." - I HEART RADIO
