"Metal chameleons, Lizard Kingdom, go 'Back to the Suture.'"

Put away your Doors references, because shit's about to get real.

There's a lot of leeway in calling your musical act post-hardcore - especially when you tack on words like "experimental" or "progressive." It's a fluidity that is only afforded the daring, and it's a fluidity that San Jose's Lizard Kingdom takes full advantage of. LK's first release, taking the form of a 3-song E.P. ("Back to the Suture"), flexes our prog-metal, experimental, punk, hardcore, technical metal and whatever-the-fuck-else-you-want-to-call-'em muscles. And sure there's more than a bit of clever irony - as the name implies - but there's nothing but serious craftsmanship as the listener traverses the 10 minutes of this debut collection.

LK's musical line - commandeered by Thomas Sherry (Bass), Ryan Waranauskas (Guitar) and Mikey Zamora (Drums) - draws a liking to bands like Animals as Leaders or After the Burial, while vocalist, Griffin Slinker, takes a crazy-insano vibe of a Suicidal Tendencies or even a Minor Threat. The result is a time manipulated ("Suture Babes") well-constructed mid-tempo melodic dispositions ("Michigan") and even Primus-esque creativity.

It all makes Lizard Kingdom well worth a spin. The technical musician geek in me rejoices, as well as the headbanging teenager, all making this robust South Bay foursome one to watch in the immediate and near future.

Bio

Lizard Kingdom began in 2011 as an instrumental project, transcending the boundaries between experimental, progressive, and post-hardcore. Initially there were three members: Ryan Waranauskas on guitar, Thomas Sherry on bass, and Mikey Zamora on drums. After a few years of performing live as an instrumental act, the decision was made to add vocalist Griffin Slinker.

A few months after completing the line-up, Lizard Kingdom hit the studio to produce a three track EP, titled “Back to the Suture”, which has been heralded as a perfect balance of heart and head; as well as affordably daring in the genres of both experimental and progressive.
With their Sophomore release, titled "The Lotus", on the horizon; Lizard Kingdom is preparing to raid the roads of the Western United States on a solo tour.
