"Jailhouse Rock - The Lo-Fi Chorus"

As the sole member of Denton indie act Lo-Fi Chorus, Thompson has written the songs that may allude to his, well, colorful past, but he's a prime example of why you sometimes shouldn't separate the artist from his art. On their own, Thompson's rounded little tunes are simple exercises in note structure, traditional chord progressions, and lyrical spareness--murder ballads and barrelhouse blues by a rookie. But weave this meditative young man's experiences into the picture, and you've got a whole new shebang. Ah, just sit back and listen to all those soulful reverberations that weren't quite so obvious before. . . . . . . . his own songs are surprisingly consistent and low-key, at least musically. Part small catharsis, part lyrical parody (the black humor comes off like comic relief), and part self-taught lesson in old-school rock and country forms, Thompson uses words like a late Johnny Cash convert and his hollow-body guitar like Fats Domino's stride piano. - Christina Rees, Dallas Observer

"A review of "Something In The Air" by Lo-Fi Chorus"

The album is incredibly dynamic, with carefully placed acoustic-guitar passages, keyboard flourishes that flatter songs rather than taint them, and sharp harmony vocals. . . . . .lo-fi chorus has a jubilant, pop-rock sparkle and a powerful sense of immediacy — the songs essentially rocket from your speakers. - Joshua Loewen, FW Weekly - Fort Worth Weekly

"Lo-Fi Chorus"

Erik Thompson was a real wild fucker. When he first arrived he came sporting a mischievous grin and a roguish gleam in his eyes. You could tell right away he was trouble—relatively harmless, but trouble nonetheless. . . . . .he has channeled his rascally ways into a passion for making music. . . . . .But it's always nice when the noise they make is noise worth listening to. In Thompson's case, his natural charm, sarcastic wit and ability to sweet-talk any girl within earshot right out of her tank top comes through loud and clear in both his songs and his swagger. As he puts it, "The kid's got char-azzma." - Darci Ratliff, Dallas Observer - Dallas Observer

"Tall Tales"

In part, Lo-Fi Chorus is about simple "tall tale" country music -- the type of stories inmates tell when sleep doesn't come. . . . . .There is no denying the youthful brilliance behind this record. . . . . .while the rough, blue, acoustic toughness of his guitar playing flat-out works. The strong melodies and his earnest, soul-strung vocals cannot be denied, and there is amazing energy in his convictions. - Theodore Defosse, Splendid Magazine - Splendid Magazine

Bio

Lo-Fi Chorus is the singer/songwriter project brought to you by Erik Thompson. It is rock and roll in the folk, soul and country traditions. It is dark, it is funny, it is complex, it is simple. Erik enlists musicians from many circles for recording and touring, quite often he performs alone. Erik has welcomed players from bands such as centro-matic, The Drams, Baptist Generals, Melt Moment Function and Dove Hunter. Erik has opened for the likes of The Supersuckers, Rogue Wave, Low, Old 97s, centro-matic, The Drams, The Frogs and countless great bands. Erik is very engaging performer and wonderful storyteller. He is a song crafter and consummate performer. He takes classical training into the garage and creates very intuitive melodies and interesting chord structures. He stands on the shoulders of giants and remains very Lo-Fi Chorus. Lo-Fi is active in anti-war activities, and has raised funds for groups such as the Humane Society, the Committee for International Peace and Men Against Violence. These politics are woven into the music with tales of fact and fiction in a way that stimulates the intelligent listener. Lo-Fi Chorus is the thinking person’s boot stompin’, bar ramblin, tall tale tellin’, contraband runnin’, whiskey drinkin’ music. Please, buy the records and come to the shows, thank you.....Good Night.
