Love Child used to be a soul band, but it has evolved into more of an amazing, multimedia, electronic soul experience. Watching people play instruments is sooooo last century. Witnessing an orgiastic explosion of music, dance, art, and technology? Now THAT'S something to write home about.

If you want to see the most convincingly eclectic stage show ever, Love Child just might have it. The band is led by the quixotic Nicole Rue, who is alternately passionate, playful, painfully sexy and unabashedly dorky. Her vocals can be butter smooth like Nenna Freelon or gritty like Gladys Knight and Macy Gray combined, and are usually punctuated with her stand up-esque banter. She's a Ph.D. student in comparative lit., so she is a brainy and ballsy front woman. If her voice sounds familiar, perhaps it's because it is on legendary DJ Armand Van Helden's most recent album, Ghettoblaster. Her song with him, "Je T'Aime has become a club anthem in Europe and was recently released by his record label, Southern Fried Records, as a CD single with numerous remixes. Ethan Hein is the co-creator of the project, and his combiation of computer acumen and his eccentric electronic ear have brought dimension to the band. He plays a video game controller on stage hooked up to a computer, rigged to trigger various sound effects, samples and notes. He have been involved in scoring various stage productions around NYC, including the NYU production of Hair at the Skirball Theater, where he took the entire musical in an electronic direction.

Nicole and Ethan are the core of the band, writing and producing the music together. Their music has been described as "a more laid-back/chill version of earth wind & fire" and "Jill Scott meets Gwen Stefani. Jazzy, rich vocals and fun, cutting edge, very danceable music." This band has been around for about 3 years now, hitting NYC scene staples such as Joe's Pub, The Bitter End, and The Cutting Room. They have honed their sound and their show, and are ready to take it on the road. For the live show, they add a dynamic menagerie of curious performers for something completely different. Ranging from burlesque dancers to African drummers and visual artists, these additions make the stage pop with excitement and activity. It's almost a cross between performance art and music.

GUITAR
Tony Marvici has been a staple of the Western Massachusetts music scene for years. His guitar solos feel drug induced, and take listeners to a psychedelic place held down by 25+ years of honest to goodness experience in playing heartfelt soul music. Tony is Motown/Staxx meets Pink Floyd/The Beach Boys.

TRUMPET
Nate Birkey's quiet but intense demeanor typifies an artist restlessly pursuing the evolution of his own musical personality. He imbues warmth and broiling energy into his music, as heard in his most recent CD release, Shortest Day on Household Ink Records. Birkey's subtle trumpet approach has often been compared to that of Miles Davis .

DANCE
Brian Polite (AKA B. Polite) is the new millennium renaissance man. A poet, MC, vocalist, beatboxer, dancer, designer, and philosopher: A total artist and thinker. His is a fusion of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye soul searching spirituality, mixed with a Harlem Renaissance wordcraft, set to a dynamic Hip-Hop metronome. B. Polite's sonic vision is the union of Hip-hop poetry-blues, techno-organic house, mind body and soul music.

ART
Jose Irizarry (aka "The Mad Sketcher") is a professional artist who adds his creative hand to the logo, artwork and the stage show of Love Child. He sets up an easel and draws on one side of the stage, capturing snippets of the musical action, the dancing, and the overall energy that the group embodies.
