Mama Corn - "Birth of a Band"

We came together at acoustic jam sessions and open mic nights in early 2007. As accomplished musicians in the central Pennsylvania music scene, we had been acquaintances, and knew of each other for years. However, we were unaware that we each shared a love for acoustic, bluegrass, and Appalachian folk music. Guys like us were hard to find around our home town, so it was a pleasant surprise to find some like minded friends. From the strike of the first notes together, we knew that we had something here. There was an undeniable chemistry. We decided to formally build a band from the "pieces and parts" of these jam sessions, and Mama Corn was born. After our first gig in front of a packed house, we caught the attention of a promoter who put us in touch with some influential people on the regional bluegrass festival scene. They loved our music and our mojo, and wanted to give "this new sensation from "westsylvania" a shot on the festival stage. With their help, we were thrust onto festival stages, playing along side our hero's! We quickly began earning a name for ourselves, and garnered a legion of fiercely dedicated fans. We recorded a five song ep (demo) later that year, and handed them out all over the tri-state region. That EP, along with the buzz on the street created by our rabid fan base helped build our momentum, and the opportunities kept on a coming. Not resting on our laurels, we tirelessly rehearsed and performed for the next three years. From working class honkey tonks, to regional festivals. We performed everywhere, from wine tastings, to lumberjack competitions, from breweries, to church festivals, and a plethora of private parties in between. By 2010, the time was right to record our first full length studio album. The self titled album, "Mama Corn" was completed in June of 2011, and has been met with rave reviews. Never ceasing to build upon our successes, 2012 is proving to be our best year to date. With a full slate of performance dates spread through out the year, and more coming everyday, the sky is the limit for this down home band of brothers, and we are enjoying every moment of this fantastic hay ride!

Mama Corn - "Our Sound"

Our sound is as varied as the artists and genres that influence our playing, but is uniquely our own. We all come from varied backgrounds of musical persuasion, such as Classical, Jazz, Rock, Blues, Folk, Gospel, Country-Western, to name a few. But for each of us, somewhere along the way, we discovered that "high lonesome sound". A sound that echoes the history of the American experience. With roots in Scots-Irish fiddle tunes, married with other immigrated, ethnic instrumentation such as Mandolin, Banjo, and Guitar, rounded off with beautiful three part harmony singing born in southern gospel church houses. We had each discovered what was coined by the late-great Bill Monroe, as "bluegrass" music. Generally, music is such an emotional experience for the listener, almost on a spiritual level. Sadly tho, much of today's music is manufactured, plastic, and disingenuous. But there is just something authentic and inherently "organic" about old time, bluegrass, and roots music. Songs that reflect something tangible in the human existential experience, and therefore it stands the test of time. Bluegrass is very infectious, and each of us has our own unique story of how and when we discovered it, and how it has influenced our playing, and perhaps us as individuals. But the love for this music brought five unique individuals with varied musical backgrounds together to make "bluegrass" music that is uniquely Mama Corn. Whether you are from the "old school" or the "new school", one thing is clear. You can bet yer ass it's bluegrass! We are a fun loving, good timing, high energy, extremely talented group of guys who love making this music together, and it shows. Come see us live and find out for yourself!!!

Mama Corn - "The it factor"

What sets us apart from other bands, we're so often told, is the "it" factor. We have a presence about us, that people love to come up and mention to us all the time. We are simply five friends, who love what we do, and that fun is infectious. We have garnered a legion of dedicated fans and friends because of our no rules attitude. We push the parameters of the genre, while adhering to the traditions of the music, in a laid back, fun loving atmosphere. We have the charisma to capture an audience and make them feel part of the fun, not just passive listeners. People tell us we have the "it" factor. What ever that means, we'll take it. As long as we keep filling the seats, they can call it what ever they want! : )
