bouncy world-inspired folk from many distant cities out of highland park in los angeles. this group of three musicians switches it up among a palette of sounds to arrange their tunes in an unorthodox manner, heavily featuring trumpet, accordion and ukulele to back up tight girl-groupish harmonies that contain surreal lyrics. there's whistling, glockenspiels, and much like the sorely underrated dexy's midnight runners, there isn't a 6 string guitar in sight.
i like this EP for many reasons, but one is that these ladies sing about drinking a lot. download this thing for five bones here. - the modern folk music of america

Bio
Many Distant Cities, named for the short story by Donald Barthelme, is a collection of multi-instrumentalists who enjoy singing about love and death, good fortune and blood. A five-piece as of the fall of 2012, they practice in a Highland Park living room with plenty of wine and room for experimentation.
Literate without being pretentious and unique without being inscrutable, their enthusiasm and their melodies are infectious. Recalling the American murder ballad tradition and infused with a dark pop sensibility, they are difficult to classify but easy to enjoy.
MDC has recently made their mark on Los Angeles at such venues as Los Globos, the Silverlake Lounge, the MorYork Gallery, the One Eyed Gypsy, plenty of basements, and even the top of Mt Wilson. Look out for their second EP in late 2014.
