Biography

She was caller 11 on Detroit's hit radio station WDRQ winning all of the Beatles albums from legendary disc jockey China Jones. At the station on 8 Mile Road in Detroit, the closet doors opened and her sixth grade arms were loaded up with the entire Beatles discography. Back at home, she dropped the needle on side one of Revolver on her blue Panasonic record player and at that the moment she was hooked. Growing up in 70's Detroit and learning from the radio jocks of America's first underground radio stations was all it took for Mary to pick up the guitar and learn her first Neil Young and Led Zeppelin tunes. Once she started, her appetite for acoustic rock guitar was fueled.

Loads of guitar lessons, gigging solo and stints in bands with like minded musicians writing and recording led her to rack up miles on the highways across America. She suddenly found her writing songs about where she was, what she saw and what she was doing from her perspective gleaned in the Upper Midwest.

Moving from the Midwest to the East Coast and back, Mary found that each place had a different sound that influenced her writing - from the rock influences of industrial Detroit to the gentle folk rock influences of the waves on beaches of Martha's Vineyard to the rhythm of the horses clipping along on the streets of Mackinac Island.

Currently, she is collaborating by writing, performing and recording in her bands Blood Sisters and Calamity Jane.

Better Than Me

Written By: Mary McGuire | Erik Gustafson

Better than me
words and music by Mary McGuire

Assasin’s Grip
Pissed off stance
I better get out fast

I would rather lose my uniform than my integrity
I have a right to my own free will
What makes you better than me?

Dark, so deep
Dragged me down I better hit my path
I would rather lose my kindness than my sanity
I have a right to my own free will
What makes you better than me?

Damaged soul Self inflicted pain I better save myself
I would rather lose my blood than live here one more day with you
I have a right to my own free will
What makes you better than me?

I Believed

Written By: Mary McGuire

Oh, I never thought I'd write a sad song to you
Oh, I believed

And I was wrong when I thought our love would beat all the odds
Oh, I believed

And now I cry you away I let my tears wash my pain away
I'm dazed
I can't count how many times I just keep on writing sad songs of love gone wrong (of love gone wrong).

And, I thought our love was strong, but now the vows are all broken
Oh, I believed
Oh, I believed
Oh, I believed
Oh, I believed

Goodbye

Written By: Mary McGuire | Ethan Daniel Davidson

Goodbye road I'm travelin' on
It's been a long time now since you've gone
I've tried to find the reasons why, you made me high

I'm tired of wasting all my time on you
Tired of wasting all my time cryin' over you, over you...I...you...I

Goodbye road I'm travelin round
It's been a long time since I layed you down
i've tried to find the reasons why, you made me cry

I'm tired of wasting all my time on you
Tired of wasting all my time cryin' over you, over you...I...you...I

I still don't know what I was lookin' for
Your eyes, your hair, your smile, I didn't need much more
You had to walk away, you didn't even try
How was I to know that part of me would die

Goodbye road I'm travelin' on
It's been so long I don't even know our song
I've tried to find the reasons why, we said goodbye

I'm tired of wasting all my time on you
Tired of wasting all my time cryin' over you, over you...I...you...I...you...I

South Beach

Written By: Mary McGuire

I'm lying out on South Beach writing you this love song
I met you just the other day, so beautiful, so strong
I'm thinking of your smile, through my mind i seem to long for you

No games, no plays, no torches waiting to spoil this scene
I met you just the other day, in your eyes i see your dreams
I'm thinking of you all time, I only long for you

The wind is blowing across my body brown
I'm listening to the waves crash all around (all around)
The kids round here are crazy, I've got sand down on my feet
And all I see is you and wonder when we'll meet.

No need to hurry, no need to rush
I like you especially when we touch
No need to hurry, no need to rush...for you

I hope you're not leaving here too soon
I met you just the other day, so brave, so true
I'm thinking of your eyes, in my mind I seem to long for you

Just happy, just love, just time together to paint our scene
I met you just the other day, in my eyes you see my dreams
Kinda cool and scary all at the same time, I long for you

The wind is blowing across my body brown
I'm listening to the waves crash all around
The kids round here are crazy, I've got sand down on my feet
And all I see is you and wonder when we'll meet.

No need to hurry, no need to rush
I like you especially when we touch
No need to hurry, no need to rush...for you

I'm gonna hang out here and then over there with you
Feel free to love me, cuz I love you

I'm lying out on South Beach writing you this love song
I met you just the other day, so beautiful so strong
I'm thinking of you all the time, I long for you

The wind is blowing across my body brown
I'm listening to the waves crash all around (all around)
The kids round here are crazy, I've got sand around my feet
And all I see is you and wonder when we'll meet.

No need to hurry, no need to rush
I like you especially when we touch
No need to hurry, no need to rush...for you

No need to hurry, no need to rush
I like you especially when we touch
No need to hurry, no need to rush
I like you especially when we touch
No need to hurry, no need to rush, for you, for you, for you
