TODAY'S TOP TUNE
My Brothers And I: Nowhere To Run - KCRW - Los Angeles, CA

"NoiseTrade New & Noteable"

Live Sessions is the band's debut EP full of infectious rhythms and grooves; it's highlighted by David Wurgler's stunningly smooth vocal performance that will leave the listener begging for a full-length album.

"As avid listeners of music, we were tired of going to shows and having the bands not live up to their recorded sound." Erik Wurgler, bass and vocals, explains the vision behind the band's Live Sessions. "Nothing is more disappointing than spending money to see a band that's not good live, so we did something about it."

MB&I members, brothers and childhood friends, have been playing long before their debut release. Functioning in one form or another the brothers have been writing, playing, and performing since 2002.

"We left no room for people to ask 'I wonder if they will be good live?' when heading to our shows. Our fans know what they are going to get... And won't be disappointed."

Scott, Erik, and David Wurgler grew up listening to their father's vinyl records of Rare Earth and Grand Funk Railroad. Being raised in the house of a choir teacher helped the brothers develop a stong choral and vocal jazz foundation. This is evident when one hears Erik and David's harmonies. Currently the band listens to Allen Stone, The Roots and everything in between. - NoiseTrade

"I Am Entertainment"

Portland, Oregon is boiling over with talent, and nobody proves it more than My Brothers
And I (MB&I). This five-piece band just released an amazing 3 song EP titled, LIVE
SESSIONS, that is sure to get your eardrums rocking. The band consists of Jordan
Roach (Guitar), Erik Wurgler (Bass/Vox), Johnny Iliyn (Keys/Vox), Scott Wurgler (Drums),
and MB&I's front man David Wurgler (Lead Vocals). After reading their bio, MB&I gained
instant respect from me because, I too am an avid listener of music who can't stand the
disappointment that is experienced when I discover that my favorite artists don't sound
nearly as good in concert as they do on their recordings. It is this very issue that
prompted MB&I to release an EP of closed session live recordings, giving listeners an
authentic experience.

I enjoyed all three songs contained on MB&I's LIVE SESSIONS release, and if I had to
choose a favorite it would likely be "Nowhere To Run". My reasoning behind choosing this
particular track is that it stood out the most to me from a vocal perspective. While I really
enjoyed the soulful vocal delivery by David Wurgler on every song, "Nowhere To Run"
was his better of the three performances. Backed by the amazing musicianship of his
bandmates, David lays down a smooth and controlled bed of vocals that are rich with
emotional charge, leading to a classic live recording that can be enjoyed for years to
come. The band, as I said, is amazing, but crooners like David don't come along that
often. Some might label him a "blue-eyed soul" singer (a term used to describe white
vocalists who sing with soul), but monikers aside, David is the closest thing to Jon B's
vocal tone that I've heard since the 90's singer topped the charts. As a Jon B fan, I could
easily relate to and appreciate Wurgler's vocal talents.

Overall, My Brothers And I bring an alternative rock sound that is light on studio tricks
and heavy on authenticity. On LIVE SESSIONS, this DIY band's desire to showcase what
they truly sound like in a live setting will give venue owners and talent buyers an honest
listen with no need to speculate whether or not the band can match the recordings. I
don't believe MB&I will have a hard time booking shows in venues throughout the Pacific
Northwest, Canada, and some Midwestern and Eastern U.S. states. I'd recommend LIVE
SESSIONS, and MB&I to anyone who likes artists ranging from Hall & Oates and Jon B.,
to Justin Timberlake and Robin Thicke. Stop by their website and connect with these
guys. - Shaine Freeman
