"Take Me Over"

“Let’s Go Home,” the title song from Austin quartet Noble Dog’s brawny debut album, leads with lead vocalist Taylor Burns drawling “I’m down in a hole so deep I cannot see.” A song about frustration, its pastoral bed of jangly guitar from lead guitarist Preston Wimberly, and a rhythmic heartbeat from bassist Aaron Hatmaker and drummer Mike Bernal, open the optimistic heart of the southern, blues-oriented group.

Wimberly and Burns, who first met in Dallas, founded Noble Dog when Wimberly enrolled at UT. The songwriting of Noble Dog is heavily influenced by Austin mindset; in Dallas the band was dominated by a “gig to gig, make the money” mindset. Austin’s prodigious pool of talent, though, forced Wimberly and Burns’ material to stand up to other people. “Now its more roots rock, if that’s what you want to call it, and stripped down. It’s rawer,” says Burns.

Noble Dog makes an effective appearance onstage. Burns sings with his jaw jutting out, like he’s smelling his way through his music. Wimberly controls stage left, while Bernal and Hatmaker groove together to the song they’re performing.

As for influences, Noble Dog lists The Band and Levon Helm, The Stones, Dylan and the Black Crowes. Wimberly’s winding, lyrical guitar strides across Noble Dog’s songs, complementing Burns’ sauntering vocals. As the lyricist, Burns sees his muse clearly.

“Love and women are my major topic. Having love and losing it, being burned. My girlfriend asks if my songs are about her, which is a question I have to answer with kid gloves.”

Noble Dog officially ties the knot with their new hometown on November 5th, when they play Antone’s for the release of Let’s Go Home. Don’t miss the EP release, featuring crowd favorites “Swamp City” and “She Breaks”—show starts at 9pm.

"Diggin' The Tunes"

One of the best cds that has been sent my way this year. Preston plays a really good guitar and Taylor has a great voice...the songs are strong and the cd was recorded and mastered perfectly! - KGSR - Bryan Beck

Bio

The band Noble Dog is a southern, blues-oriented band originating in “the live music capital of the world,” Austin, TX. Formed in late 2007 by Preston Wimberly and Taylor Burns, the two have created their own additions to the genre of southern rock (or created something all their own). Having been friends for most of their lives, the two have found a way to coalesce their talents, feeding off each other’s energy, in order to compose their style of music. With musical influences like The Rolling Stones and The Allman Brothers, among others, Noble Dog strives to keep that quintessential essence of southern-soul while adding their own unique flare. Taylor writes most of the lyrics and provides the soulful vocals while Preston is the engineer behind the band’s songwriting and has an uncanny ability to take a song’s vision and turn it into a reality. Having performed at venues like Antone’s & Saxon Pub in Austin, and House of Blues in Dallas, Noble Dog has held a dialogue with their audiences and hopes to tour in the near future. Together they continue to push their limits as musicians, always searching for the next song that encompasses their passion of music and freedom of expression.
