Bio

Combining elements of vintage soul, old-school r&b and 50’s-era doo wop, Old Tiger began playing together regularly in mid-2009. By October, guitarist/vocalist Dustin Lothspeich, bassist Matt Phillips, and drummer Eric Boone began recording a dozen original songs inside an old San Diego house with little more than an obsolete laptop, a couple of budget microphones and a 12-pack of whatever beer was on sale at the local liquor store. The goal of the recordings was to channel their collective love of Stax Records and the Golden Era of Motown into their own original material. After 4 months of recording and mixing - the guys emerged with a solid collection of songs that were ready to be played live.

Their first show was in May 2009 - a headlining gig at San Diego’s Brick By Brick club. It went over well, and unexpectedly propelled them onto a 30 minute set on These Days (which you can still listen to here), the morning show for San Diego’s NPR radio station, KPBS. More and more shows followed at San Diego venues such as the Soda Bar, The Radio Room, Tin Can Alehouse and the Beauty Bar. In June 2010, Old Tiger played San Diego’s most infamous venue, The Casbah, for the first time. It was a dream come true for the three guys who had spent years watching their favorite artists perform there.

Shortly after their first Casbah show, they released a 4-song EP on iTunes and Amazon titled “The Definitive Collection”. They played nearly 20-30 shows across southern California throughout the latter half of 2010 while continuing to write new material, some of which has shown up in their latest release: a live album recorded this past December, available for free through their Bandcamp site. The group is relentlessly booking more shows and plan on getting into the studio in 2011 for their debut full-length. In other words: stay tuned.
