Bio

Seeing One Way Station live is as thrilling as the first step in an unknown, but strangely familiar, land. Showcasing their uniquely diverse conversations of rock, funk and blues music, you'll immediately want to jump on the train...but don't be surprised where you end up.

Determined to turn any show into a groovetastic dance party, San Francisco's One Way Station weaves roots rock, psychedelia, country folk and disco beats into a seamless live music experience conjuring expansive sounds with influences from the Grateful Dead, Dire Straits and Bob Dylan, all while forging its own unique musical path.

One Way Station formed when Jackson, John, Nick, and Troy (formerly of the Soda Pop Junkies) met with Kenny Crowley and began to practice in late fall of 2010. The former members of the Soda Pop Junkies had been playing with each other since 2009, and played 13 shows in the year they were a working band. In October of 2010 the Soda Pop Junkies decided to move into a new direction, and they joined with Kenny Crowley.

Jackson plays lead guitar and sings lead and background vocals. He is from New York and moved to San Francisco in 2006. John plays bass and sings back ground vocals; he is originally from Kentucky. Nick plays the drummer and is from San Francisco. Troy plays keyboards and is from Berkeley. Kenny plays rhythm guitar and sings lead and background vocals.

Jackson, John, and Nick all met in 2006 and began playing with each other in various projects. Jackson went on to play for two years with his first band The Flip Squad. They broke up in 2008 and Jackson started his second project with John, Nick, and a new singer named Jennica Smith. They called themselves the Soda Pop Junkies, and they played with several keyboardists before landing on Berkeley native, Troy Blanchard.

Jennica and the rest of the band parted ways after a very successful year of shows, two of which were played with a band called The Jolly Good Fellows who had a very talented singer named Kenny Crowley. Jackson, John, Nick, and Troy immediately liked Kenny's rhythm guitar playing and singing. When Kenny found out that the Soda Pop Junkies were going through a transition he offered himself to the group.

Once the five musicians got together for an impromptu jam session, they realized there was something special happening. And they changed their name to One Way Station. After rehearsing for several months the group recorded a demo CD at Different Fur Studios, in San Francisco. They are starting out 2011 with a show at the Boom Boom Room in San Francisco, and are eagerly looking forward to another successful year.
