Our story….by PleasureDevice.
We are a guitar-driven, synthesizer-heavy band fronted by singer-guitarist Chad Robinson, formerly with Austin-based alternative band DynamiteHack, known for their acoustic cover of Eazy-E’s “Boyz-n-the-Hood”…it still gets some play at FM94/9 and KROQ in L.A.
Soon after DynamiteHack’s dissolution, Robinson left Austin for San Diego and founded PleasureDevice, based in Ocean Beach. The band includes former members of Boone Companion and El Buzzard(Jack Panighetti-drums), Hurricane Jenny (Craig Dolce), and (Dennis Keith Smith)Early Autumn.
Our sound mixes off-kilter guitars and layered synth with piano; big, driving drums and catchy melodies. We feel that we’ve have managed to take our many, varied influences to create a sound that is as unique as it is familiar. City Beat’s Drew Keltz described our sound as “..catchy as an S.T.D.”…We say: “we're loud and poppy. We use many gtr-pedals! Our stuff is heavy on the synths(from casio to yamaha to roland groovebox to radioshack) with big, heavy-hitter drums. We also do: unique and melodic vocals, kazoo, hand claps, lots o piano, girls vocals on occassion, tambourines and whistleing can make a song.”
PleasureDevice has completed their first full-length recording due out this summer entitled “the Spectacular Miseries of Re-Entry”...a phrase coined and expanded upon in Walker Percy's book "Lost in the Cosmos"
