"Kelowna celebrates Get to Know's Okanagan talents! Dec. 16, 2013"

The Okanagan proved it has big talent at Friday's Get to Know Celebration event in Kelowna. Grade five student Mia Tibando is one example, pictured here in an interview with Shaw TV. An audience of all ages was treated to an impressive slideshow of 107 local art pieces, along with a beautiful live performance by 16 year old singer songwriter Rachel Layne. Three pairs of limited edition Bushnell Binoculars found proud new owners and five of this year's winning art pieces were auctioned for a pretty penny alongside an original Robert Bateman painting. We can't wait to see what British Columbia's Okanagan Valley shows us next year! Great work guys. -

"TODAY'S VIDEO SHARE: DIAMONDS & JEWELS BY RACHEL LAYNE"

This is a song with honest words and seductive vocals by the 17 year old composer, Rachel Layne. The music was inspired by the classic fictional James Bond film series and brings to mind introspective "Bond" themes like "Skyfall", "Tomorrow Never Dies", and "Goldfinger". She expresses her desire to be a Bond girl in this music video.

Rachel is a singer and songwriter and was formally trained in voice, piano and theatre. Her passion in performing brought her to be a 2015 Semi-Finalist in the Unsigned Only Music Competition. She currently performs at music events, festivals, and sports events. - Women of Substance Radio

Bio

Rachel Layne’s powerful voice and cleverly crafted lyrics have garnered much attention to her songwriting. She’s a 2015 Unsigned Only Music semi-finalist and one of eight artists selected by Music Publisher Ole to perform at their inaugural “on the spot” contest during CCMA Week. With a love for the soulfulness of jazz, she tries to bring that aspect into her writing and performing, with a little bit of a country feel.

Rachel’s love of language and poetic eloquence as well as song composition has afforded her performance opportunities including emerging artist showcases during CCMA Week for the past six years. She has been featured at the Opening Ceremonies of the International Children’s Winter Games, performed at the Calgary Stampede, at the YVR Canucks for Kids Charitable Event, the Merritt Country Music Walk of Stars and during a BC Lions Half Time Show for a Salute to Veterans. She was thrilled to sing Amazing Grace at a this special event which saw over 27,000 people in attendance, and after talking to many of the veterans, Rachel was "inspired to write the song Give the Stars a Kiss." As well as singing anthems for her local and provincial sports teams. she has also sang anthems for the Vancouver Canucks (NHL), the Vancouver Canadians (NWL) and the BC Lions (CFL).

She has performed at many festivals and fairs including the Interior Provincial Exhibition, the Pacific National Exhibition, the Cloverdale Rodeo, Parks Alive, the Fat Cat Childrens Festival, Rare Earth Music Festival and was invited to sing at the last Merritt Mountain Music Festival.  As an avid supporter for environmental sustainability, Rachel wrote a song about the beauty of nature that was selected as a winner at the Get to Know International Youth Environmental Conference.

I think this is a girl to keep your eye on. Her songwriting style has such a beautiful vibe, very raw and honest.” – Diva Shane, Music Bank Music Reviews
