"Reviews - Juntamos, Rainbow, Tribal"

In response to "Juntamos:"

'Acousticly amusing'
"Nice Acoutstic track. They should have an acoustic genre on here just for tracks like this...an overall good performance."

'guitar'
"had a very 'live' recording feel; not the best judge on guitar playing as i don't really play; sounds complex esp using different voicings; somber yet hopeful mood"

'really nice guitar work'
"very nice. really easy a and smooth guitars, like the picks and solo sounds. the only worry about this is that i thought it was going to be an amazing epic with vocals, etc. but remained guitar only- but still great to listen to. excellent stuff, nice tune, quite catchy."

'Nice Guitar'
"This song has a very nice Jazz sound and I have appreciation for the structure in which it is constantly taking the listener to a new place."

'nice and sweet'
"This kind of music sounds like Eric Clapton. The melody is sympatic. It's nice and sweet.""

'Very nice'
"This is a very relaxing instrumental done by a very accomplished classical guitarist. Would fit well in a coffee shop/bookstore setting. It's not the kind of melody or arrangement that is going to stick in anybody's mind for a very long, but I don't really think that that's what the writer/performer had in mind when he laid this track down. The track sets a laid back mood and, I think, is intended to be background music for whatever leisurely activity the listener has in mind at the time. Very soothing music."

'Acoustic guitar.'
"Warm, energetic acoustic guitar. Beautiful sound. Nice percussive effect on the guitar from the slap with the strumming. Smooth recording that still gives a live sound and feel. Rhythm's steady. Picking is clear and well done. Very musical and full with just the guitar melody and chord structure. There is a happy go lucky ambiance created that also has some dramatic build-up that maintains the energy well and brings us back to a happy ending. Well done.."

'Nice guitar'
"The mood has a very soothing quality to it and I think is right on. Nice changes here. Yes, the arrangement is good too. Good, good and good. It is nice to hear an instrumental, and a pretty one at that. I can see a lot of people enjoying this as relaxing background music on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Good job."

'A great guitarist !'
"What a nice guitarist do we have here ! Even if the recording itself contains to many bass frequencies in the bass (or is it a very averagely recorded bass ?), the acoustic guitar is great in this one !

The mood is very charming. Adding some singer's voice and maybe some drums here and there would however for sure enhance the feeling of this one a lot.

We for sure have a great guitarist here ! Now look for a band that will make a wise use of your guitarist's talent and I'm sure you'll go far !

So an extra ++ for the guitar !"

'Classical Gas Part II!'
"This is a nice mellow folk pop backdrop. Add some lyrics and you've got instant success. Very articulate working of the notes, the arrangement while standard, is representative of the fact that this musician knows the game. The mood is light, airy and appreciative of the audience.

Nice work"

'Fix it in Post! (We've all heard that)'
"I like how the song starts right away. You're quickly grabbed by the sound, even though its soft and lilting.

The acoustic is done well. The guitar is very well miked. You may want to work on your slide progressions though; it creates that "pfff" sound you hear (1:26). Either that or EQ it out in post.

The arrangement of the song is decent. I think that overall, its very well thought out, and just complex enough to be impressive, but not too complex that the average listener will not be able to grasp it.

The mood of the song, to me, seems to be slightly sad or contemplative. But it definitely has a presence about it. Good work."

'Love the feel'
"I'm only on second 10 of the song, and I know that I love the feel, acoustic guitar is great, very nice clean sound. Good dinner music."

'Nice little Instr.'
Love when a guitar can carry the melody and an artist doesn't need to rely on a vocal.

"'Rainbow'"

In response to "Rainbow:"

“I might be on crack, but I think this whole track was done by a single player, looping his own electric textures, then strumming an acoustic, popping out some basslines, and smacking some strings for percussive effect—all blending together as a great li'l groovefest! Very clever, live music making, which, despite its echo-based origins, never comes across as a novelty. Fripp fans, David Torn Fans, Gary Lucas fans, and others gotta check out Russell McLaughlin's fine fretwork!!”

Bio

More than just a guy with a guitar..

Russ has been a percussionist for over a decade. In 2001, he became fascinated with the guitar and began to incorporate his love for intricate rhythm patterns with the knowledge of basic chord progressions he'd picked up from various texts. With the incorporation of effects pedals, and development in guitar playing and songwriting matched with an education from Berklee College of Music, he took his creativity to a new level.

Influences range from Dave Matthews and 311, to Ryan Adams and Miles Davis...
