"True Singers: Sadiki meets Sandra Cross"

SINGER Henry 'Sadiki' Buckley of The Tennors is taking some time off from the group to concentrate on his latest project, an album with British lover's rock singer, Sandra Cross.

Titled True Singers: Sadiki Meets Sandra Cross, it is the first in a series of vocal albums Buckley plans to release on his Skinny Bwoy Jamaica label.

The album will be available digitally via iTunes on September 4.

Buckley says he 'met' Cross through the Myspace social network. He contacted her and soon they established a musical connection.

"She 'demo'd' a tune to me that was vocally perfect," Buckley recalled.

So far, he has released one single from the album, Believe, which is co-produced by himself, Cross and Japanese reggae personality Machaco.

The song was first released in 2011 to help raise support for survivors of the earthquake that struck Japan in March that year.

A leading figure in British lover's rock, Cross has been described as one of reggae's best kept secrets.
Her most popular songs are I Adore, Country Living and Just a Dream.
Buckley says he is planning a series of European dates later this year with The Tennors, a group that recorded at Studio One during the 1960s.

He also hopes to launch his Sheperds House gospel label this year. - Jamaica Observer

"Sadiki - Jah Is The Only King"

Sadiki is a singer who always kept a somewhat low profile. Those of you who do know him most likely remember a few singles but probably don´t know he already has several albums to his name as well. The latest album on the list is ‘Jah Is The Only King’.

Sadiki has been recording songs for over fifteen years now. He had some successful dancehall hits ten years ago and toured with Beres Hammond for two years. Afterwards the singer continued his career independently but last year he was noticed again with the release of 'fi di Dancehall', an album featuring Delly Ranks. Sadiki has the voice of a highbred singer with a gentle touch of softness, influenced by R&B. Even though it seems he likes to use auto tune sometimes, he really doesn´t need it as his vocal qualities are great.

‘Jah Is The Only King’ consists of twelve songs and was largely produced by the artist himself in collaboration with Kemar 'Flava' McGregor and Chris Peckings. Since love in all its manifestations is the main theme on ‘Jah Is The Only King', lovers rock is therefore generously represented on this album. A good example of this are the excellent ‘Lover’s Flight’, a song built on the on the same riddim as ‘Break Up To Make Up ' by The Heptones or the cheerful ‘Destiny's Child’. Also 'Mama' is a striking song as, unlike most tracks dedicated to mothers around the world, it´s layered with humour and witty dialogues in between the choruses.

‘Jah Is The Only King’ also contains quite some conscious tracks such as; ‘Paradise’, ‘Jah Is The Only King’, built on the same riddim as 'It's You I Love’ by The Techniques and the fantastic ‘All In Love’ which is a tribute to the unity between different religions and beliefs: "Christians moving up, moving up Rastaman, Muslims moving up ... ", everyone moving in the same direction! The album closes with ‘Live Some Life', a song that gives you an energetic boost that will get you going for the rest of the day! - Reggae.be

"Sadiki’s Messages of Love Still Shine Through"

U.S. based reggae singer Sadiki is mainly known for his journeys in the lovers rock genre, and his third and latest album Jah Is The Only King is described in a press release as a clear departure from his previous sound.

But don’t let the title or a press release fool you. This album is not a clear departure from what he has been doing for years. Sure, there are a bunch of tracks with cultural or conscious topics, but the majority of the album is dedicated to romance and affairs of the heart.

Even though the album is mostly smooth as a baby’s butt, it’s a well-produced and well-sung effort produced by a number of people from around the globe – Kemar “Flava” McGregor from the U.S. Chris Peckings and Lloyd Mullings from the UK, Arena 026 Music from the Netherlands, First T & Kross from France, Enjoint from Japan and HearMeNow from Switzerland.

Sadiki has proven numerous times before that he’s an excellent vocalist, and on this album he’s as great as always. It’s soulful, powerful and sometimes it sounds like he’s singing while walking on eggshells.

There are several songs worthy of special attention, particularly Lovers Flight over Leroy Sibbles’ Break Up To Make Up, the motherly celebration aptly titled Mama, the up-tempo and patois intense Destiny’s Child and Live Some Life, which borrows its horn part from Susan Cadogan’s Hurt So Good.

Jah Is The Only King might not be the cultural set implied by the title, but when the material is as strong as these twelve tracks I don’t really care about titles or topics. It’s the music that counts. - Reggaemani

"HEAR THIS: Sadiki “Jah Is The Only King”"

Sadiki is one of those best-kept-secret-type singers. He may not have the biggest name in the game, but if you’ve been paying attention you know his records speak for themselves. Blending a staccato singjay attack and soaring melodies, Sadiki’s got what it takes to rock the mike right. His “Gal Them Everytime” was one of the standout tracks on Tony Kelly’s hit-packed Buyout Riddim, and his Japanese-only Sound Killarchy CD is one the strongest soundboy-killing albums of recent years. So it was a treat to find this tasty new spiritual cut in our inbox. A few more tunes like this and Sadiki will be a secret no more. - http://www.boomshots.com/index.php/2012/page/11/

Bio

Today's ideal artist is somewhat of a Renaissance person - one who can sing, write, produce and engineer and everything in between. Sadiki fits the bill, proving why he was nominated as the Most Promising Entertainer in 2007 and in 2012 by the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA).

He was born Henry Buckley, in Rollington Town, Kingston, Jamaica. With a father, Henry Buckley, who was a singer/songwriter (Judy Mowatt Silent River). and the Music Director/Conductor for the Jamaica Constabulary Force Band, Sadiki was given no choice as to the career path that would later choose him. He migrated to the United States in the late 80s and settled on Chicago's northside. Through the influences of Reggae, R&B and Hop Hop, Sadiki has developed a vocal range and lyrical skills that brings together the best of both worlds. He landed a deal with the D'Arcy Wretzy (Smashing Pumpkins) and Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne / Ivy) owned label Scratchie Records, (distributed by Mercury Records). In 1997 his self-titled debut was released on Scratchie/Mercury under the name Pancho Kryztal.

In 1999, at the suggestion of reggae producer 'Computer' Paul Henton (Shaggy, Jimmy Cliff), he changed his name from Pancho Kryztal to Sadiki - An Egyptian name meaning faithful or loyal. In 2001 he scored a big hit with Gal Dem Everytime on the Buyout riddim for producer Tony 'CD' Kelly. He then met Reggae singer/songwriter Beres Hammond and was asked to add his vocals to a track at Hammond's studio. Within months of working alongside Hammond, Sadiki was selected as an opening act for the elder musicians Music is Life World Tour 2002. On tour with Hammond, Sadiki performed throughout the USA, Japan and the Caribbean. Between 2002 and 2006, Sadiki released six singles with the self-produced Pretty Girl entering the NY Top 30 Reggae Chart, peaking at #16.

In 2007, Sadiki scored another major hit with a remake of Robin Thicke's Lost Without You on the Taxi Riddim. The single entered the Bigup Radio, Florida Top 30, NY Top 30, X-News (JA), Weekly Star & UK (Newstyle Radio) charts, peaking at #1, #2, #4, #5, #7, and #8 respectively. After a successful 4-city tour of Japan in March of 2007, he was offered a licensing deal for that territory. His debut album Morning's Come was released in Japan in 2007.. Within weeks of its release, the album hit the #1 spot for reggae releases at HMV record stores throughout Japan, and charted within the top 5 at Tower Records. As well as being Sadiki's singing and songwriting debut, the album was also Sadikis producing and engineering debut, as he produced or co-produced each and every track. The US Version of Mornings Come, was independently released worldwide in the Fall of 2008.

Sadiki's album Lifeline (released 2010 - Skinny Bwoy/Joe Fraser) is international lovers rock at its finest. The album and its first single - African Queen, topped the Weekly Star Top 10 Chart, staying in the number one spot simultaneously for two weeks in a row. In the UK African Queen also hit the #1 spot on the BBC World Reggae Beat Top 10 Chart. Lifeline peaked at #2 on the New York Top 30 Reggae Chart and #2 on the South Florida Reggae Chart. A collaborative album Fi Di Dancehall with ace DJ Delly Ranx was released in February 2011. The first single from that album Jamaican Queen, has also hit the BBC World Reggae Beat Top 10 Chart. Sadiki recently added the title Artist Manager to his list of credentials, signing Reggae group CHALICE, Ska Legend Eric Monty Morris and Rocksteady giants The Tennors to management deals. In February of 2012 Sadiki scored his second BBC World Reggae Beat #1 with Before The Time which was written by Sadiki and produced by top reggae producer Kemar Flava McGregor (Etana, Sinead OConnor, The Green). Sadiki became a member of the legendary Rocksteady group The Tennors in April of 2012. In November 2012, Sadiki released his third solo album Jah Is The Only King. The title track from that album is Sadikis 3rd #1 on the BBC World Reggae Beat Top 10 Chart.

Through his travels throughout the US, Canada, Japan, Europe and the Caribbean he performed at events/venues such as Japan Splash, Reggae On The River (California), New Jersey Reggae Festival, The Theatre at Madison Square Garden (NY), International Festival of Life (Chicago), House of Blues (New Orleans, Los Angeles), Calgary Reggae Festival.  He has shared the stage with Buju Banton, Gyptian, Ky-Mani Marley, Shaggy, Luciano, Wayne Wonder, Maxi Priest, Marcia Griffiths, Leroy Sibbles, Beenie Man, Beres Hammond, Hepcat, Wailing Souls, Tony Rebel, Yaz Alexander among many others.
