Biography

Sincerely, Iris consists of singer/songwriter Todd Murray. He has a sound that can be summed up best as road trip music. Its a style thats always changing, and always moving along. Whether it be gypsy-esque or like Kerouac's beat up old truck, shaking down the road at midnight, it is at once comforting, and somewhat unknown. Sincerely, Iris draws upon influences from Jeff Buckley all the way to Billie Holiday.
Todd is sponsored by Breedlove Guitars.

Todd recently completed his new album, Best Left Free." This is his third album under the name Sincerely, Iris.

"It's a bold, compelling set of original tunes, full of glorious lyrical twists and melodic turns. Sincerely, Iris remains Savannah's most idiosyncratic (and enjoyable) acoustic artist. - Connect Savannah

"One of the most interesting of Savannah's newest crop of acoustic artists, Sincerely, Iris makes music that gleefully gallops across easy categorization. These songs veer from spacey, modal musing to hyperdrive rock to highly melodic and structured pop, each with a lyrical knife's edge that puts them into that fabulously rich and never specific singer/songwriter territory.
Murray has been compared, frequently, to Jeff Buckley, and you can hear it in the yearning, almost melancholy of his lyrics and the moodiness of his vocals. "She Moves Me" and the exquisite, waltz-time "Dear Clementine" have echoes of early Gordon Lightfoot, and the spectral images of jazz-era Joni, non-twee Sufjan and early Iron & Wine appear from time to time." Connect Savannah

Todd knows each songs destiny and puts his best foot forward in presenting them on his recently recorded effort, Headlight Sonata. chimusicreview.com

Sincerely, Iris has played shows in Ohio, Kentucky, Colorado, Chicago, and is now plunging into the Savannah music scene. He has recorded 3 albums of original material and has been featured on Chicago radio stations Vocalo.org/89.5, WXRT, and Chicago Acoustic Underground.

Lyrics

Don't Let the Man Get You Down

Written By: Todd Murray

All those years, you wished you were on the road
So map your tears, they'll tell you where to go
Lock your door, don't give your heart to the wolves anymore

Dream a dream, like a Charlie Chaplin movie screen
With wordless scenes, but you still know what they mean
It's all so clear, in black and white, to get the hell out of here

If the man can't treat you right
Don't let what holds you down, tuck you in at night

The highway cars, hum in perfect time
Amazing Grace, once you were lost buy now you'll find
Freedom sings, a much sweeter song than the past could bring

If the man can't treat you right
Don't let what holds you down, tuck you in at night
If it keeps you up at night
Don't let what holds you down, tuck you in at night.

Cemetery Blues

Written By: Todd Murray

CEMETERY BLUES

Verse
All these gravestones sitting in the moon set, but I ain't there yet, as you see
Walking train tracks waiting for a white light, just like heaven, come to me
I ain't just a hunk of meat, there is someplace I should be, I've got no chains but I ain't free.

Chorus
Ooh cemetery blues

Verse
Money talks to me at night, if you had me you'd be alright.
But I sleep it off, the best I can, cause money don't make me a man
And I got so, so many plans, but goddamn the clock, and damn the man
Who keeps me pinned up on the tower, collecting pennies, by the hour

Chorus

Verse
I can't decide which way to go. Call your name? Or just lay low?
Based upon my circumstance, it's heads or tails, but I like my chance
Walking train tracks, waiting for a white light, and all those gravestones look good to me.

Waiting Blues

Written By: Todd Murray aka Sincerely,Iris, Iris

Waiting Blues

I love you more than you want me
I love your more than you want me to
I love you more than you want me
Do you want me?
Do you want me?

I need you more than you know
I need you more than you'll ever know
I need you more than you know
Do you know?
Do you know?

Chorus
And as I look in your eyes I fall into the blue
And as we say our goodbyes there's nothing I can do

I miss you more than I show
I miss you more than I'll ever show
I miss you more than I show you
Can I show you?
Can I show you?

Chorus

And as I look in your eyes I fall into the blue

Chorus
