Sounds from Atlantis is a Modern Electric Americana quartet from South Jersey whose origins stem from the songwriting efforts of lead singer Tony Cooksey, who recorded his first solo EP, Lower Vibration Sessions in 2006. Cooksey's one-man live performances would soon come to include bassist Gregory Hagen and drummer Matthew Walker. Described in Origivation Magazine as "...Having a sound that harkens to The Bends-era Radiohead, the Mars Volta, the Decemberists, and Elbow." SfA has carved a niche in the Philadelphia and South Jersey original music scene with a unique blend of brilliant lead and harmony vocals, diverse instrumental prowess, and ghostly lyricism. The band is also known for winning over fans and fellow musicians alike with their friendly, energetic stage presence and all-too-evident enjoyment in performing live. They have played such venues as Philadelphia's Trocadero Theatre, the Hard Rock Cafe, Khyber, and the North Star Bar. SfA took to the studio in the summer of 08' to record what became their first group effort, 2009's No Mercy has the Sea. Guitarist Chris Bayley joined the band during mixing of No Mercy has the Sea and, in trading lead and rhythm duties with Cooksey, has further developed the sound of Sounds from Atlantis.
To date SfA continues to write new material while promoting their latest EP. Check out SfA's radio interviews, live performance videos, write ups, upcoming show dates, and listen to tracks off the EP No Mercy has the Sea at www.SoundsfromAtlantis.com.
every now & then / murder

Every now and then I lie
If I could explain
Then I’d tell you why
I’ve gone over board
And drank too much again
Now I’m adrift too tired to swim
But don't get your feet wet
Just let me go
So I can sink like a stone
Oh it's no surprise that I lie
You let me get away

your crocodile teeth won't stop staring at me and with the wave of your hand you pulled the carpet from underneath. and your cohort's got a selfish heart; he'll leave. and your friends want you to themselves and no one else and so it goes. don't you go and believe everything that you read, you just can not believe everything that you see. is it miles of tape that find us and bind us. you say you want to stop and pray that's fine I'll stop and wait. cause' I ain't much for what I can't touch. the only thing that makes it ok is walking the streets and giving money away. don't you go and believe everything that you read. you just cannot believe everything that you see. just goes to show it's not who you know but where you go. and they'll still love you it's not what you say it's what you do. don't you go and believe everything that you read. you just can not believe everything that you see. if you're looking for peace you won't find it with me.

there's an architect in my head building walls where none had been. I can hear the old me screaming come back, come back, come back. now I have in my head a crossword puzzle with no sign and no index. now I sleep on red hot coals, water bearer if your there could you find me and put me out? and I got even and don't know how I got ahead of myself, and I got breathing and don't know why I tried to better myself, and I got even and don't know how I got ahead of myself, and I got breathing and don't know why I tried to better myself. waving streamers fill the bleachers water bearer they've come to meet you hold out their glass at the show down rodeo somewhere in mexico. my hands send a message to my head that's been sleeping and the whole crowd clapping while I'm quietly dreaming. just as I fall asleep wake up, wake up, wake up. stay involved, move ahead. breaking walls with your head. got it feels that way sometimes. come on boys shake a leg don't you wanna hear 'em sing? water bearer I know you'll always be there, I know you'll always be there. taking back roads, avoid what i know, things I dare not say. I find that these days go so fast. no time left to... water bearer I know you'll always be there.
in after the rain at the town's edge

when the rain came it washed the blood away. so the bodies were clean but they were dead just the same. and from far away, a big bomb from a bigger plane, as her world lay at her feet all she could think, all she could think, I'm glad it didn't happen to me. with her boy in her arms mary began to weep. thinking back on all those things she said but did not mean. she'd do anything back then to keep him home in his own bed. the last man to leave and not come back. do you have any idea what that means? from far, far away a big bomb from a bigger plain. and as her world lay at mary's feet all she could think, all she could think, I'm glad it didn't happen to me. she can't take that from any man especially one as weak as me. 'cause it's just you & I

on a wave, on the crest of a wave. it was the james river that carried me away. hold me down, let me go. so I sink like a stone. it's all I can do not let go. help me breath far away from the undertow. lime stone bed where the river meets the bay. water rises up and soaks through my jeans. I don't mind. I carved your name, I carved your name on the side of a wave. hold me down, let me go. so I sink like a stone. it's all I can do to not let go. help me breath far away from the undertow. dangerous eyes get away now there's no telling how they came, feeding on us I. don't even hurt I couldn't tell you why and still I smile. hold me down, let me go and so I sink like a stone. it's all I can do to not let go. help me breath. who's telling lies now? steal every paper from this town.
