"Winterfest On The Mountain- Live Review"

The Springdale Quartet utilized a microphone for a single song, a stellar rendition of Neil Young’s “Helpless,” to close out their set. I hardly expected something of this caliber from the guys who rocked mostly instrumental bluesy, jazzy, psychedelic guitar jams, with punctuated organ and sax solos over deep cutting bass grooves for the bulk of their set. Their guest saxophone player, “Bob,” who they met backstage moments before going on, fit so well you would have thought he was a regular member. If Saturday night was ruled by bluegrass, the early part of Sunday was surely jam band time. - The Grateful Web

"Springdale Quartet"

"I have said it once I will say it again, "Bring them a Hammond Organ and a Leslie and they will dance. " Along with funky pulsing bass lines, driving drum beats and punctuated guitar riffs, that is exactly what Springdale Quartet brings to the stage." - Mousike Magazine

"Springdale Quartet"

"Though the name might suggest a gifted-school band, Boulder-based Springdale Quartet are funkier than any scholarly four piece. Playing mainly improvisational jazz, blues and funk, each song winds and weaves its way from beginning to end, never static and always fresh. While they may play the same songs at shows they're never played exactly the same." - EMarketing Magazine

"Local Love: Springdale Quartet"

"Boulder quartet Springdale Quartet fuse together original jazz, funk, and blues elements with upbeat tempos, heavy jazz organ, and musical spontaneity while adding modern techniques and genre-blending melodies. The result: an undeniably funky fresh sound that’s 100 percent Boulder, but also unique enough to stand out...." (February 2010) - Marquee Magazine

"Springdale Quartet focuses on live shows while getting debut CD prepped for release"

An air of inevitable good times resonates within the presence of Springdale Quartet. They are able to channel that spontaneity into an intricately structured and harmonized instrumental bliss and controlled chaos.

Springdale Quartet hails out of Boulder and while most Colorado bands rush to make it on a national level, Springdale Quartet is content working on solidifying their homebase following before branching out.

Despite their spot at the recent Mishawaka Waterfront Music Festival, Springdale Quartet insists they are “not nearly as bluegrass as you think.”

The sound brought about by the solely instrumental quartet is rather unique and original to the Front Range region. Heavy jazz tendencies are disrupted by funk lay downs, with blues and jam band elements integrated throughout.

The band consists of Jordan Roos on bass, Chase ‘Chaos’ Terzian on keys/organ, Ben Waligoske on guitar and Greg Russell on drums.

Springdale Quartet originally came together in Roos’ garage which, not-inconsequentially, is located on Springdale Drive. The boys were attending the University of Colorado when they met during a fateful twist of luck. After some weekly jam nights, guitarist Ben Waligoske joined the band just two years ago and they have been on the musical grind ever since.

Right off the bat, the band was picked to play the 10,000 Lakes Music Festival and this year they’ve gotten the nod to play the exclusive Denver Underground Music Showcase in July.

Live performances are ultimately what this group is about. Nevertheless, the band has spent time at the renowned Evergroove Studios, with hopes of getting their first full-length released sometime later this year.

“We have two albums worth of material and there has been talk of a double album. We really just want to get in there and throw some stuff down,” said Roos during a recent conversation with The Marquee and his bandmates. “At the same time, we don’t want to rush and put something together that’s not well thought out.”

Taking that time to think puts Springdale in an enviable position of not having to follow any timelines and thus getting to spend more time doing what they prefer — playing together.

“We are at our best when we’re listening to each other and being spontaneous,” Waligoske said. Terzian nearly interrupted to add, “It’s more about chemistry and the things that are happening between each of us during a show.” - Marquee Magazine

"Waterfront Music Festival at Mishawaka: Review"

"I was blown away. One of the few non-bluegrass bands playing the weekend (Waterfront Music Festival at Mishawaka), the boys from Boulder brought their version of mostly instrumental funk-rock to the forefront. On top of it all, these kids have a ton of moxie..."

Bio

Born in a time when the definition of “live music” seems in constant flux, Colorado’s Springdale Quartet may upon first inspection seem slightly out of place. Their sound and style, based foremost on a compositional foundation with its roots in the jazz and blues traditions, has been described at times as “vintage”. But the real stuff- the music itself- cannot be so readily labeled.
Drawing additionally from the musical institutions of Heavy organ, upbeat funk, and progressive rock, Springdale’s live show is anything but antiquated- in fact, it’s dance music! Blending reverence for the technical traditions of each members’ instrument with a desire to improvise musically results in the creation of new and distinctive sonic landscapes every night- for this four-piece, it’s all about creating a sound that is dually familiar and unique; that both comforts and excites.
Springdale was featured at 10,000 Lakes Festival in 2008, and has performed at some of Colorado’s most prestigious venues such as the Fox Theatre, Boulder Theater, Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom, Gothic Theatre, The Mishawaka, and more with acts including Maceo Parker, the Benevento/Russo Duo, Tea Leaf Green, and The New Mastersounds. Never forgetting to have a sense of humor, Springdale Quartet has emerged from their humble beginnings on Springdale Lane in Boulder to make a lasting impression on the ever-growing Colorado music scene, and they're doing it in style.
