"NEW MUSIC GUIDE: The Neu Bulletin"

It’s not very often that a new band come forward with a sound and look that’s as complete as LA’s Jr. And having unassumingly set loose four separate tracks in the past few months, you’d be right not to have heard of the trio. But boasting songs like the charming and perfected indie-ballad ‘Okinawa’, Jr.’s diverse alt-pop sound is likely to strike a chord with anyone who’s even slightly familiar with bands like Born Ruffians, Local Natives and Vampire Weekend. "Introducing | Jr."

LA’s Jr. are just starting out, but with songs this good, it’s only a matter of time until everyone’s listening.
They’re from: Los Angeles
They are: Chris, Charlie & Kevin
They sound like: Local Natives, Born Ruffians, Vampire Weekend, The ShinsAs it stands at the moment, Jr. – an alt-pop three-piece from the US – are almost unheard of; their Facebook following a sign of a short but sweet existence. But social media, unfortunately, is in no way an appropriate indicator of talent and potential – things that this band have a lot of.
Having spent the last few months producing and perfecting their introspective indie sound, the Los Angeles-based trio have been sporadically posting a number of tracks online via the Soundcloud page. Frighteningly well-formed, these tracks give an incredible insight into what’s to come from a band who have already achieved so much.

The building sounds of ‘Saudade‘ lead the way for Jr., presenting sonically precise moments of songwriting and dynamics through thoughtful vocal lines, groove-laiden riffs and sparing electronic input. Tastefully quirky and ridiculously pleasing, Jr.’s fresh indie-esque sound is only complemented further with the introduction of their other available tracks.
Although it’s unlike some of the other more left-field music featured on this site, Jr.’s music is so instantly likable and thoughtful it’s hard to see how anyone could not like what these guys are doing. It’s just good, well-thought-out music with bags of style and personality – and your going to be hearing a lot more of it.
Jr. are currently working on their live show and are recording yet more music for release.

""Okinawa" & "The Girls""

Indie-pop can be a polarizing genre. Some of the offerings within can be contrived to suit endless radio plays, and some can be just be plain average, but when you've a sonic style like LA's Jr., it's impossible not to immediately fall in love, because with tracks like "Okinawa" and "The Girls", these up-and-comers have a great take on the sound and a very bright future ahead of them as a result. With only four tracks on their SoundCloud page, the three-piece looks like they've been attacking the sonic sphere with no concrete strategy thus far, but after receiving some shine on DIY and other blogs thereafter, there's no doubt in our mind that Jr. is going to be a band in demand. - Hilly Dilly

"Jr. - The girls"

JR. - THE GIRLS

Discovered LA band Jr. via Hillydilly the other day and have been straight obsessing. While they’ve only got 4 tracks to their name, they are all solid gold.

The best part however, is how uniquely different they all are. From the serene & saccharine ’Okinawa’, to the acoustic drum & bass break in ’Saudade’, the Brian Wilson-esque harmonies of ’High Dive’, right down to the fuzzy-rock & video-games-driven frat party that is (what I believe to be) their raucous single (and best track) ’The Girls’; each song has a cool individual identity. But yet they still manage to maintain a sound – you know each of these tracks is by the same genius band.

Very refreshing to hear a new band who doesn’t seem to be following a formula in their song creation (other than ‘make it awesome’ maybe?). Sure it helps to sound like Vampire Weekend smashed together with Chairlift (and a hint of Cold War Kids), I mean, if you’re into that.

I am so fucking into that. Just take my money already.

Surely some of the years best. - Haus Of Whaps
