"The Band In Heaven Have A New Video"

The Band in Heaven just released their first 7" on Hozac Records, and are offering up a download of the song, "High Low" off of the record for free as a way to get people all frothed up about their SXSW shows.

Being the go-getters that they are, they also made a video for "High Low" which shows illegal activity such as eating shrooms and driving while smiling in a crazy manner. Here's the official premiere of the video.

"Check out the Band in Heaven"

As we hit the heart of winter in New York, the sunny climes of Florida sound pretty good right now. As does some of the music coming out of there, even if on the dark and moody side like West Palm Beach's The Band in Heaven. The group's debut 7" was just released on HoZac: four hits of fuzzy psych rock of varying prescriptions, from the driving lead track "Sleazy Dreams" to the tabla/sitar-fueled "If You Only Knew."
The EP ends with a methadone rework of "Sleazy Dreams" called "Sludgy Dreams" for which the band have just released a trippy music video, animated with cutouts a la Terry Gilliam. We're premiering said video and you can watch it at the bottom of this post, along with a stream of the entire HoZac EP. 2012 should be a busy one for these Floridians, with a second 7" due on Sympathy for the Record Industry later this year.
The Band in Heaven will also be headed to Austin for SXSW, where they'll play showcases/parties for HoZac, Austin Psych Fest, Cherry Sustainable, Get Bent and others. Look for details -- as well as more tour dates -- as March approaches.
In related HoZac news, Radar Eyes' long-gestating debut album is out February 7. Those in Chicago should hit the FREE record release show on February 6. - Brooklyn Vegan

"The Band in Heaven"

The Band In Heaven are a 5-piece from Florida, but their music is far from being sunny and tropical. They are more into fuzz shoegaze guitars and spacey and dark sounds. They still don't have a physical release, although if we check their bandcamp page, they say they have a cassettesingle from last year, although not sure if it ever was released like that. Now, they uploaded a bunch of demos compiled in a free-to-download EP that you can get here. They say they are demos, but the sound is much better that many releases out these days. The 6 songs here, including a dirty cover of Cranberries's Dreams, are made to be put beside your records of Spacemen 3, Loop, JAMC and so on, and the quality of the songs tells me it won't be long until we see a record of them somewhere. - Seven Noises Blog

"The Band in Heaven on Transatlanticism"

Hypewriter aims to bring you the bands destined for greater things at a time when you can go see them in small venues without paying astronomical ticket prices, allowing you to enjoy and appreciate the music these great bands are making.

So I got a heads up about these guys from none other than their singer Ates Isildak (kick-ass name), who modestly suggested I may like their music, LIKE is an understatement. These guys seem to have produced some brilliantly original tracks that have had me drooling like a rhythmical baby over their EP for the past week. Seriously guys, bands like this don't come along very often. Read More about The Band In Heaven after the beep, you can also download their EP for free.

Shoegaze is what spawned these guys but really they could champion any genre they wished to, Lo-fi, Rock, Dream Pop, you name it. If I were to spell out the ambition of this band I would probably just play you the lead track on the EP, 'A Tunnel Into Your Dreams' is a swirling synth-pop storm, with beautifully low key lyrics and a depth to it that is rarely seen in a demo. The next track 'Summer Bummer' dispels any thoughts that this band are a one track pony (see what i did there......), the distorted riff that runs throughout gives a tempo and urgency about the track that makes it inherently listen-able. In my opinion their best song is 'High Low'. It is a classic anthem evoking sounds of the great bands of the 90's, the Blur's, the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's, their influence is their for all to see and it makes for a great track. Everything in the track is given its own brilliance, the lyrical slurs and building guitar riffs coil together to create a wave of musical perfection.

I guess to sum it up I would say that their sound is one that I don't think anyone could get bored with, a sound that could define this year, or a genre, or even musical generation, It's that good. Enjoy. - Transatlanticism Blog

"The Band in Heaven will play our favorite song"

The Band In Heaven recently came to my attention. Fans of shoegaze should continue reading…

MP: Where are you from? How long have you been together? How do you all know each other?

TBIH: We are a two-piece shoegaze/dream-pop band from West Palm Beach, Florida. Lauren (percussion/vocals) and I have known one another for maybe 7 years now. She played percussion for Strangers Family Band for some time, and I was there singer until about 2 months ago. We left at the same time and started The Band In Heaven.

MP: What do you like about where you are living? Good venues? Good food? Good art scene? Favorite local bands/performance artists/visual artists/film makers?

TBIN: South Florida has a great music community at the moment. Lots of friends trying to help each other out. Our friends in Love Handles and Chill Pillars (both great bands) throw free shows at their practice space, calling it Club Sandwich. There is another venue down here called Propaganda that throws such cheap shows with such good bands… it’s really helping to keep live music alive around here. There are too many good bands to name coming out of South Florida right now. Check out Weird Wives if you have a chance.

MP: Why does the shoe gaze genre interest you? What excites you about being in a shoegaze band? What got you interested in the genre? What bands in the genre do you most admire and why? How do you see the genre evolving?

TBINH: We grew up listening to music in the 90's so a lot of those influences are kind of showing up in what we’ve been writing lately, like Spacemen 3, My Bloody Valentine and Black Tambourine. At the same time we’re really influenced by some great bands pushing that whole sound/genre forward, like Crocodiles or Wavves or Woven Bones. We want to push it somewhere new as well. We’re trying to blend shoegaze and dream-pop right now. They are such similar genres in terms of mood but not really the same sonically.

MP: Any plans to tour? Any funny mishaps from previous tours? Any major “on the road” highlights?

TBIH: We hope to play a few shows in New York and California this summer. Aside from that we’ll just play shows throughout Florida. It’s such a long state…. it’s hard to escape. - Minor Progression

Cassette Single on No Sound Records Released July 10

Bio

In the thick of a sweat-soaked, sun burnt Floridian summer, West Palm Beach's The Band in Heaven have finished their debut full-length record, Caught in a Summer Swell, slated for release on Decades Records, a boutique South Florida label. They will also release the album on cassette with Cheap Miami.

On first listen it is apparent they've made a distinct departure from their previous releases, no longer hiding behind curtains of reverb and feedback. Casting aside their guttural shoegaze foundation, they instead meet us with an overall dreamy sound. Sometimes spacey, sometimes catchy, other times noisy, the band in Heaven now holds our attention with a tighter, stronger rhythm section which is then glazed over with a sheen of dreamy, delayed guitars. Male / female vocals trade off throughout the album. The lyrics aren't hidden, but nothing is on the surface.

The albums closer, 'Farewell Summer,' is a reference to a Ray Bradbury novel, namely the sequel to Dandelion Wine. The novel itself is about the young declaring war on the old. The lyrics touch on this somewhat with the line "All my friends have been married, buried, or carried away." Instead of outright war, The Band in Heaven outwardly demonstrates their dissatisfaction with the rituals of life, embittered perhaps with the thought of being forced to remain in youth, grasping for the paths in life that were afforded to so many, but always out of reach for them
