Biography

The Catch Blues Band's sound has been described as the blues with a splash of rum , where B.B. King meets Bob Marley, with a Clapton-like vocal. This mixture of genres has earned The Catch Blues Band a dedicated following in the Upper Ohio Valley since the veteran musicians formed the group in 2006.

The four-piece band's distinctive rhythms create an expansive sound. The interplay between Dana Burkhart's elaborate bass lines along with the Latin-influenced percussions created by Johnny Lemmon gives the music a serious depth. When added to the unmistakably blues-like raunchiness of Kevin Brosh's organ and piano accompaniment and topped off with Mike Roeder's distinctive vocal and guitar stylings, The Catch Blues Band will give any blues-lover that back-street blues-battle house feeling.

In August 2007, The Catch Blues Band, in conjunction with their inaugural appearance at the Heritage Music Bluesfest in Wheeling, WV, released their first CD, It's Not Right . It's Not Right is the brainchild of lead singer and guitarist, Mike Roeder. I've had some of these tunes simmering in my 'song box' since 1996, but it was the inspiration I took from my fellow band-members that really brought it to life” he said. All are Wheeling residents, with the exception of Brosh, who currently resides in Shadyside, Ohio.

The band will again be appearing at the Heritage Music Bluesfest this August, and are planning their second release, “You Left Me”. Roeder cited many inspirations for the CD, but especially the music I listened to while growing up in North Wheeling – the Allman Brothers Band, Eric Clapton, Santana and Bob Marley.

It's Not Right

Written By: Michael A. Roeder

ITS NOT RIGHT

WHAT HAVE I DONE TO MAKE YOU HATE ME
I TRIED SO HARD TO SHOW I CARED
YOU TURNED ME ON LIKE A RAGGING OCEAN
BUT IN YOUR WAKE ONLY DESPAIR
I’VE BEEN SITTING HERE JUST WAITING
FOR YOU TO WALK BACK IN MY LIFE
I’M NOT THE MEN WHO HURT YOU
I JUST LOVED WITH ALL MY MIGHT

ITS NOT RIGHT

BEFORE I MET YOU I RECOVERED
I TRAINED MY HEART NOT TO LOVE ANOTHER
YOU BURNED A HOLE DEEP IN MY SOUL
BUT YOU DON’T COME ROUND HERE NO MORE
YOU GAVE A BLIND MAN BACK HIS SIGHT
TURNED ALL MY DARKNESS INTO LIGHT
AND THEN YOU CUT ME LIKE A KNIFE

ITS NOT RIGHT

Janita

Written By: Michael A. Roeder

JANITA 4/11/07

I HAD A GIRL NAMED JANITA
WHO TREATED ME SO CRUEL
SHE RAN AROUND WITH EVERY MAN IN TOWN
AND MADE ME LOOK LIKE A FOOL

MY FRIENDS ALL SAY YOU’VE GONE ASTRAY
BUT I’LL ALWAYS LOVE YOU ANYWAY

MY JANITA
I’M WAITING FOR YOU
MY JANITA
I’LL BE HERE WHEN YOUR THROUGH
MY JANITA
I CAN’T WAIT TILL YOU COME BACK HOME

COAL BLACK HAIR AND DEEP DARK EYES
THE KIND OF GIRL THAT STAYS ON YOUR MIND
ONE OF THESE DAYS I’M GONNA MAKE HER MINE
‘TIL THEN SHE’LL CHEAT ON ME EVERY TIME

MY JANITA
I’M WAITING FOR YOU
MY JANITA
I’LL BE HERE WHEN YOUR THROUGH
MY JANITA
I CAN’T WAIT TILL YOU COME BACK HOME

MY FRIENDS ALL SAY YOU’VE GONE ASTRAY
BUT I’LL ALWAYS LOVE YOU ANYWAY

MY JANITA
IM WAITING FOR YOU
MY JANITA
I’LL BE HERE WHEN YOUR THROUGH
MY JANITA
I CANT WAIT TILL YOU COME BACK HOME

You Said You Loved Me

YOU SAID YOU LOVED ME

YOU SAID YOU LOVED ME
WELL YOU KNOW THAT AIN’T THE TRUTH
YOU SAID YOU LOVED ME
WELL YOU KNOW THAT AIN’T THE TRUTH
WHEN I CAUGHT YOU WITH THAT OTHER MAN
I HAD TO CUT YOU LOOSE

SAW YOU SNEAKIN’ ROUND THE CORNER
TRYIN’ TO BE SLY
SAW YOU SNEAKIN’ ROUND THE CORNER
TRYIN’ TO BE SLY
DID YOU THINK I WAS SUCH A FOOL
OR STONE-COLD BLIND

HEARD YOUR NEW MAN LEFT YOU
NOW YOU’RE OUT THERE ON THE STREET
HEARD YOUR NEW MAN LEFT YOU
NOW YOU’RE OUT THERE ON THE STREET
DID YOU THINK YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE
WHO KNOWS HOW TO CHEAT

YOU SAID YOU LOVED ME
WELL YOU KNOW THAT AIN’T THE TRUTH
YOU SAID YOU LOVED ME
WELL YOU KNOW THAT AIN’T THE TRUTH
WHEN I CAUGHT YOU WITH THAT OTHER MAN
I HAD TO CUT YOU LOOSE

I'm Not So Sad

I’M NOT SO SAD

MY BABY SAYS SHE WORRIED
OF THE THING THAT I’VE BECOME
STAYING OUT ALL NIGHT LONG
AND PLAYING MY GUITAR

I GUESS I’M CRAZY
AND SOMETIMES I’M BAD
THEY SAY I GOT THE BLUES
BUT I’M NOT SO SAD

I WORK HARD THROUGH THE DAY TIME
AT NIGHT I DRINK SOME BEER
THE WEEKENDS ARE MY WHISKEY NIGHTS
THEN IT’S ‘MIKE ROEDER HERE’

I GUESS I’M CRAZY
AND SOMETIMES I’M BAD
THEY SAY I GOT THE BLUES
BUT I’M NOT SO SAD

NOBODY TELLS ME WHAT TO DO
I AIN’T NOBODY’S SLAVE
IF I SHOULD DROP DOWN DEAD SOME NIGHT
POUR WHISKEY IN MY GRAVE

I GUESS I’M CRAZY
AND SOMETIMES I’M BAD
THEY SAY I GOT THE BLUES
BUT I’M NOT SO SAD

Devil Woman

DEVIL WOMAN

I DON’T KNOW HOW IT HAPPENED
DOES IT HAPPEN JUST TO ME
I FIND MYSELF A WOMAN
SHE RUNS AROUND ON ME

DEVIL WOMAN
LEAVE IF YOU PLEASE
DON’T CALL ME ON THE TELEPHONE
DON’T EVER COME AROUND AND BOTHER ME

I MET ANOTHER WOMAN
DOWN AT THE LOCAL BAR
I TOOK HER HOME AND HAD SOME FUN
NEXT DAY SHE STOLE MY CAR

DEVIL WOMAN
LEAVE IF YOU PLEASE
DON’T CALL ME ON THE TELEPHONE
DON’T EVER COME AROUND AND BOTHER ME

HOW COME I FIND THE WOMEN
WHO ARE DOWN ON THEIR LUCK
I TRY TO MAKE THEM HAPPY
THEY’RE GONE WHEN I WAKE UP

DEVIL WOMAN
LEAVE IF YOU PLEASE
DON’T CALL ME ON THE TELEPHONE
DON’T EVER COME AROUND AND BOTHER ME

DON’T CALL ME ON THE TELEPHONE
DON’T EVER COME AROUND AND BOTHER ME

Ybor City Blues

YBOR CITY BLUES

ON THE NORTH SIDE OF TAMPA
NOT FAR FROM THE BAY
THERE’S A LITTLE TOWN CALLED YBOR
WHERE ALL THE BANDS PLAY
EVERY NIGHT ABOUT HALF-PAST EIGHT
THEY CLOSE THE STREETS DOWN
AND THEY PUT UP THE GATE

YOU WON’T HEAR HEAVY METAL
YOU’LL NEVER HEAR NO RAP
CAUSE THE BLUES IS WHAT THEY PLAY THERE
AND THAT’S WHAT BRINGS THE PEOPLE BACK

TO YBOR
YBOR CITY BLUES
IN YBOR
YBOR CITY BLUES

YOU WON’T HEAR HEAVY METAL
YOU’LL NEVER HEAR NO RAP
CAUSE THE BLUES IS WHAT THEY PLAY THERE
AND THAT’S WHAT BRINGS THE PEOPLE BACK

YOU WON’T SEE NO TOURISTS THERE
NO COLLEGE KIDS IN HATS
IF YOU GO DOWN THE WRONG STREET
YOU MAY NOT COME BACK

TO YBOR
YBOR CITY BLUES
IN YBOR
YBOR CITY BLUES

YOU WON’T HEAR HEAVY METAL
YOU’LL NEVER HEAR NO RAP
CAUSE THE BLUES IS WHAT THEY PLAY THERE
AND THAT’S WHAT BRINGS THE PEOPLE BACK

Please

PLEASE

WHY DO I ONLY HAVE ONE LIFE TO LEAD
WHY DO I ONLY HAVE ONE HEART THAT BLEEDS
HOW COME THE PEOPLE THAT I LOVED SO MUCH
PASSED THROUGH MY LIFE IN SUCH A BIG RUSH

BUT I’M TRYING TO FIND MY WAY BACK HOME AGAIN
ACROSS THE BRIDGES I’VE BURNED
AND THROUGH THE STREETS I’VE SINNED
WHEN I GET THERE, I HOPE SOMEONE WILL LET ME IN

PLEASE

WELL I LOST MOM AND DAD
AND I’VE LOST SOME GOOD FRIENDS
I’VE LOST PARTS OF ME I CANT GET BACK AGAIN
IT’S A SHAME WHEN A MAN DON’T HEAR NO ALARM
WHEN THE ONLY PEACE HE FINDS
IS THROUGH A HOLE IN HIS ARM

BUT I’M TRYING TO FIND MY WAY BACK HOME AGAIN
ACROSS THE BRIDGES I’VE BURNED
AND THROUGH THE STREETS I’VE SINNED
WHEN I GET THERE, I HOPE SOMEONE WILL LET ME IN

PLEASE
