Bio

The Empty Apology is the pop-punk music project of Brisbane-based musician Matthew Dawe. Influenced predominantly by the US punk rock and emo scenes of the late 90's and early 00's, Matt hit the studio with local producer James North in 2009 hoping to forge a sound of his own. The result of these efforts saw the release of The Empty Apology's debut 6 track EP, "If You Could Only Read My Mind," by summer of the following year.

A collection of catchy, guitar-driven pop tunes, "If You Could Only Read My Mind" blended various acoustic and rock elements, yet still maintained the pop-punk sensibility of the bands that had made such a significant and lasting impact on Matt's musical life from an early age (à la Say Anything, Jimmy Eat World, Bayside...)

Seeking to flesh out a live sound, Matt recruited close friend and fellow colleague Michael Blundell on bass and session drummer Dan Harris, which subsequently saw The Empty Apology play various gigs around their local Brisbane (e.g. X&Y Bar, Tempo Hotel...) Naturally, these shows provided The Empty Apology with a wealth of experience on the live stage, as well as the desire to pursue new and exciting possibilities knowing they had now developed a definitive sound for themselves as a band.

Returning to the studio at the end of 2010, a follow-up EP, entitled "Why Do Anything?" was recorded and is currently geared for a mid-2011 release.
