So who’s The Good Decisions?

The Good Decisions is a three piece “power band” as one would call it… We are three musicians

Matan Amit: guitars and vocals

Ben-Li Bramli- drums and vocals

Idan Dayan- bass guitar and vocals

How did you guys came together and created this band?

Well… basically the band was formed about a year ago in this specific constellation, Matan Amit, who has been in several bands in the past, met up with Ben-Li whilst they were playing together as session musicians and started to jam together. After a while Ben-Li brought in bass player Idan Dayan an old friend whom he knew from high school. It wasn’t “love at first sight” in a way but it was defiantly love from the third one!

It took us some time to ignite the chemistry, but as slow things develop the best so did this band. And today we are basically best friends

What’s the story behind the band’s name?

In a way we always make decisions in life… they all lead us somewhere and we think that not only that “what’s for you won’t pass by you” but also that everything happens for the best and everything happens for a reason… which makes all of your decisions essentially good ones J.

What are your music influences?

Each of us is influenced by different things and we all throw in to our music blend our ideas and influences…
For example…Ben-Li grew up listening to the great SIMONE PHILLIPS and “TOTO”, Idan Dayan was influenced from bands like the RHCP, RUSH and Chick COREA and Matan Amit was influenced from guitarists such as JIMI HENDRIX, JIMMY PAGE,SRV and MARK KNOPFLER

How did you guys see the music scene over there in Israel?

Hard.

This is a tough market as it is, there are not a lot of people who listen to our genre in Israel and the idea of Israelis singing in English is a new one and is still being digested in a way… So add that to the competition in such a small market and you get a pretty tough cookie to crack.

What’s your method at the time of writing a song?

Matan Amit rights all the songs… brings them to the band and we all work on them and arrange them Matan Amit: “I will write about the things that inspire me, and that is life itself, relationships, and situations that happens to all of us which made us really feel.

How you guys feel about playing Canadian Music Fest next year?

We are very excited and honored to be asked to come and play the CMW. This will be our first time to perform together outside Israel.

So you are working on a new album. Can you guys give us more details/insights about it? Any title, release date in mind?

The name of the album will probably be as the name of the band: “THE GOOD DECISIONS”. We do not have a set date for it yet but we aim for spring 2013.

Are there any more plans for the future?

Of course a lot! We are planning on getting a good booking agency to help us get more gigs around the world. We hope that playing the CMW will provide us with some connections for that. Our new band internet site will be up and running in the next couple of months and up till then people can follow us on our facebook page which is:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Good-Decisions/225269224222281?sk=app_2405167945

And we are continuing gigging around Israel, finish our album and start working on the next one

What has been one of the funniest moments you guys have been or took part while touring?

This will be our first tour… so to be honest we haven’t got one yet… but we do laugh all the time and the relationship between us is really like three brothers…

Where can we find more about your music?

Like we said our band site will be up and running soon and we will publish it the second its up… and up till there our facebook page which we added a link to just above.

Do you guys feel you are moving on the right direction?

Ever since we formed this band we feel like we are moving in the right direction.

The chemistry and musicianship between us is one that none of us has ever felt before.
Our gigs are getting better and better in the sense that we are getting to know each other so well and the way that each of us play

And we believe that this band is the best decisions we ever made.

The Good Decisions

What is your thought process when working on new music? Usually Matan Amit (the lead singer and guitarist of the group) writes the songs at home (Lyrics and music), than we all meet up at the rehearsal studio and go over the songs, arrange them edit them and sometimes decide to drop them or just put them back on the working desk or at the drawer to be pulled out again at a later stage when we are ready to work on them again.

What inspires your music? (Matan): So many things… every day events, emotions caused by different things… But I guess if I had to choose one thing it would be people. I get inspired by people acts, whether acts of kindness or remorse, anger, revenge, gratitude, friendship…

How would you classify your music? Rock! Hard energetic, fresh and innovative with scents from the past that makes you feel like you came home after a long journey.

How would you describe yourself as an artist? Experimental, not afraid of new things, very motivated and dedicated to our music and our way, we just really love playing together and being on stage together.

What sets your music apart from others in your genre? I think that for the main thing we don’t try to sound like anybody else although you can always relate someone to a certain sound or a band or even a song. But for the main part our live act is coming straight from our hearts and our souls! And whenever someone is REAL with you and honest and straight you can relate to that and call it special.

When you are working on a new song… Do you already have a concept in mind or do you rather write on top of music/beats? (Matan:) I am very spontaneous and 95% of the time will write the melody first and then the lyrics will follow. I usually don’t have a set idea on what is going to be the subject on the song, except from a few times I knew I wanted to write on a specific subject. It’s really based on my emotions on that day, sometimes whether I picked up an acoustic guitar or an electric guitar or just sat at the piano at that moment.

What are some of your musical influences? We all come from different styles and backgrounds… but all are mostly rock based. We season the song with all of our styles, it just flows into the music. Ben-Li for example grew up listening to the great Simone Philips and Toto, Idan the Bass playerwas influenced from everything from RHCP through RUSH to CHICK COREA, while Matan was influenced from guitarists such as JIMI HENDRIX,JIMMY PAGE,PETER GREEN to MARK KNOPFLER and SNOWY WHITE, to… well the list is endless really.

What obstacles have you faced in the music industry? It was hard not to smile from this question… the actual word is an obstacle… MUSIC INDUSTRY…. Turning a beautiful art of the soul such as music to an INDUSTRY… makes you want to leave the whole thing go back to your room and just play…But this is the world we live in and this I part of the things we need to suffer in order to get our music out there so we do it anyway and try to enjoy the process…Getting heard, getting our music out there and getting a booking agency that would like to take us on and get us gigs.

What hard lessons have you learned while working in the industry? That you have to work hard, never give up your dream and be willing to compromise on one hand but not to lose yourself or sell out or give up on the other. Stick together and remember that the music comes from the people that we are, so we have to talk to each other, listen to each other and take care of one another… Just like in any relationship we guess.

Do you feel that people really understand the business aspect of the music industry? We guess that the people who make it probably understand it…

What changes do you feel that need to be made in the music industry? It’s a very weird and changing market especially in the last couple of years where the internet just “killed” all of record labels. For example the fact that people no longer really buy CD’s or records… Makes the artist gig more in order to make a living which we think is great because we love gigging.

What direction do you see the music industry going? It’s really hard to say, with all the new things coming up these days in the computers and now mobile smart phones. One thing we think will never change is that people will always want to hear live music. It’s in peoples bones

What steps have you taken to market your music? As we said we are working on our EP at the moment that will be sent all over the minute it is done. We shot three high quality video’s at a live show we had so we covered the audio part which was the songs we wanted, the visual part which was the videos and with the fact that it was all taken at a live show it helps us promote ourselves to whoever wants to book us for a gig cause this way he can see how we are when we are on the stage. We got one single ready “Different Melody” and our Facebook page. We are still working on our website which - Stickers music magazine

Bio

“A perfect combination between Dave Matthews and John Mayer, The Good Decisions are a really talented bunch… If the God of music exists, you will definitely hear more of them in the future.” – SDM Magazine

The Good Decisions were formed in late 2011 by singer and guitarist Matan Amit, and quickly developed into a tight, daring, rhythmic and musical freight train, playing hard rocking songs as well as bold touching ballads.

A four piece power band playing energetic rock that resonates throughout your body and mind and leaving you wanting more, their live shows are super high energy sensations, and their fan base is growing rapidly.

Besides countless gigs, a highlight has been a ground shaking tour of NYC that went down with great success, and as a result The Good Decisions were invited to play at The Canadian Music Fest and The Cambridge Rock Festival.

“An exciting and original rock band, with catchy hooks and songs that bring to mind shades of AC/DC, Incubus, Foo Fighters and Alice In Chains, The Good Decisions have managed to create a fantastic sound that is both raw and polished.” – Soular Power Productions

The Good Decisions play grunge and hard rock and you can hear the influences of bands such as Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains and the Foo Fighters.

Still, it's not easy to describe something special and refreshing, with scents from the past that conjures nostalgic feelings deep inside of your soul, like thunder rolling in the distance, signalling for the storm to come.

Maybe this is a good way to make someone listen… so if you are ready to listen, then listen very carefully!

The E.P. titled “Different Melody” is now out
on release and is also available on Bandcamp.
