"What I'm Listening To"

Sometimes people send me CDs.

Picture hijacked from facebook.com/TheHopeandStay. Don't they look FANCY and FUN

Which I love–seriously, who wouldn’t?! But since I recently (like in-the-last-year recently) upgraded from a music collection best described as “Anything on Now 14” (TELL me you remember the Now CDs) to something best described as…uhh, good taste…I’ve been a littttttle more discriminating.

I.e. I don’t like EVERYTHING I hear. Only the good stuff–naturally.

Last week, I was steady obsessing over an artist who arrived in my inbox named Booth and coughed up the cash to legally download (because I’m law abiding and shit) his CD. Great decision–for the win!

And THIS WEEK, I’m lucky enough to have been turned onto even more BADASS music. This week, I’m allll about The Hope & Stay.

Their songs have been streaming on repeat–through my headphones and unrelentingly in my head–ever since I downloaded them a few days ago (literally–I’m listening to them as I write) and…well…I couldn’t be happier. With influences like U2, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Switchfoot, sick instrumentals and a lead singer with a killer voice that simultaneously makes me want to comfort and make out with him (that got weird), The Hope & Stay have a truly amazing sound. The genre, my friends, is rock & roll, and the passion is evident–mellow enough in one song and just as rousing in the next.

But enough with my douchey/wannabe-pretentious attempts at trying to describe my new fave band. Bottom line is I’m stoked I was turned onto (…and turned on by–what?!) them. You gotta hear fo’ yo’self, so check ‘em out on Facebook and download them on iTunes.

(And when it says you’re downloading Peyton Eaton, don’t stress. That’s the lead singer. Yeah. It’s confusing buttt you’re on the right track.)

Bottom line: Wayyyyyyy better than Now 14.

And I’ll be the first to say that’s the ultimate compliment.

Tweet me @Its_Sam_babaaay and tell me what you think…or, ya know, don’t.

Bio

After recording a self-titled EP in the spring of 2011, singer-songwriter Peyton Eaton sought to form a band with which to perform and create. Eaton relocated to the Austin area from small-town East Texas and subsequently recruited Zach Selindh, Daniel Steddum, and Austin Norman, thus completing the lineup and forming The Peyton Eaton Band. The quartet soon began playing shows and writing songs together, allowing their remarkable chemistry to steer them into new and exciting musical territory.
In early 2012 the band decided to change their name to The Hope & Stay, and thereafter began crafting and recording their first collectively written EP entitled "Vacant." This release, due out October 4, marks a drastic shift in musical style from The Peyton Eaton Band, and is an invigorating teaser for all that the band has to offer. Blending influences from Mutemath, U2, Muse, and The Dear Hunter, the musical force that is The Hope & Stay is sure to offer a unique sonic experience for listening ears.
