"Hyena Dog Robbery Debut"

?"A supercharged mix of post-punk spirit channeled through garage-rock ambition. Wicked, brash, and hellishly catchy." - Lonely Vagabond

"Album Review: The Hyena Dog Robbery — The Hyena Dog Robbery"

“The self-titled debut album from The Hyena Dog Robbery is refreshing in its simplicity. Free of pretensions, the band plays to the point, crafting sleazy, dirty music that seems to be lacking in modern rock today.” - The Gateway

"Hyena Dog Robbery Launch Tribal Rock Debut"

On Saturday, November 6th you will have the opportunity of a lifetime to check out Toronto, Ontario's HYENA DOG ROBBERY at the Garrison in Toronto. Make sure you pick up their debut album as it's one of the most promising debuts of this year,

Sleezy, hyper-aggressive music that will keep you on your toes, HDR provide a nonstop collison of raw energy and inventive, tribal sounds and lyrics. Imagine Einsturzende-Neubauten and a Bo-Diddley drunk on spy themes.

"JEFFREY MORGAN’S MEDIA BLACKOUT #238!"

The Hyena Dog Robbery – The Hyena Dog Robbery (self released) :: Kids, if you’re gonna steal, make sure that you steal from the best like these sonic satirists do. When they aren’t busy burgling guitar riffs from “Secret Agent Man” and “James Bond Theme” they’re busy burgling vocals from the Cramps and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult. Now that’s what I call snatchin’ the pooch!

"The Hyena Dog Robbery-The Hyena Dog Robbery"

“Musically, the band sound like a mish-mash of The Birthday Party's tribal rhythms, The Cramps' sleaziness and Iggy Pop's naked aggression. Song after song boasts fat, vibrant guitars and drums that are occasionally gut-punching and bowel-reverberating. The best examples are "Whiskey Sawdust" and "Winder Up," both with thick claustrophobic bass grooves and rich ear-popping sonic density.” - Chart Attack

"The Hyena Dog Robbery S/T"

“The guitar sound of the punk eras usually associated with the brash Gibson Les Paul of the Sex Pistols’s Steve Jones or The Clash’s Mick Jones. But, at their roots were the wild men of the 50’s who played Gretschs- Bo Diddley and Eddie Cochran- the inspiration for such players as the fast but cool Billy Zoom from X, and The Gun Club’s gone but not forgotten Jeffrey Lee Pierce. An overdriven Gretsch Hollow Body guitar is a special thing, and a Toronto player following in that tradition is Daryl Purdy, who just launched his latest band’s debut CD at a gig at the Garrison club. Daryl was the soundman at The Rivoli for many years, and one night when he worked the board for an industrial band he discovered a rhythm section that had potential. The band was ICHOR, who was all about the tribal rhythms but was more than happy to work with a guitarist inspired by the same post-punk sounds as they were (Joy Division, Birthday Party). Now HDR is a tight combo that drives hard and doesn’t let up, like Jeffrey Lee Pierce with the rhythm section of Killing Joke. The disc comes with MP3 files(also available on Itunes) that can be loaded into your computer or ipod, but I believe the CD is the best way to hear their full spectrum tribute to the mighty Gretsch.” - Tandem Magazine
