"Lucky Boys Confusion at Canopy Club"

After The High Life was done, The Skalalitabs played. The Skalalitabs were an eight member ska band. This band brought variety to the night’s lineup. They had two guitarists, a drummer, two trumpets, a trombone, a saxophone and a bassist/vocalist. I personally thought they were pretty entertaining, skanking while playing their instruments. Their outfits reminded me of a jazz band from New Orleans. Going on, they had a pretty cool vocalist/bassist – he definitely got the crowd’s attention and kept it going. The Skalalitabs also had an amazing rendition of Reel Big Fish’s “Beer”. - the217

"$5 Cover, Priceless Coverage"

Kicking off the intimate Void Room show was The Skalalitabs, a group of University of Illinois students from Downers Grove. Although the sight of three of the six band members standing up on stage with trumpets and a saxophone in hand initially made me a little leery, my fears soon subsided when I discovered that the group was pretty much everything a ska band should be: a fun-loving bunch who see it as a sin to take themselves too seriously. - the217

Bio

Driven insane by the boredom of Chicago's suburbia and the music on the radio, a group of young lads have gathered together to unleash their madness in a flurry of off-beat guitar grooves, dance beats, and funky horn lines in what is now called the Skalalitabs! "The Skalalitabs" is a name formed from a pun with "ska" and the Qur'anic phrase for Jews, Christians, and Muslims, all of which are represented in the band's lineup. Bringing together ska, reggae, and dance-punk into a combination never before heard, the Skalalitabs will get even the most firmly rooted of wall flowers skanking and jumping!
