How many children did your trash feed today?

Did you celebrate Valentine's Day this year? For hundreds of people in the Ruidoso region, the day was punctuated with a "Turn Hunger into Hope on Heart Day" benefit at Angus Church of the Nazarene. Even the little people in lines to play games wore Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) T-shirts. Hoops Against Hunger kept basketballs rebounding all night long, almost in competition with the inspiring sounds of Thomas P. Radcliffe, Gleewood, and The Walkie Talkies playing on stage.

One more benefit in what must surely be one of the nation's most giving communities. So giving, in fact, that for the first hour of the evening one of the busiest of the more than 20 stations was a row of tables where dozens of people clustered while waiting to have their boxes of throw-aways and bags of trash counted or weighed. They carried large bags filled with empty health and beauty containers; yogurt, butter, and whipped topping plastic tubs and lids; drink pouch containers with straws still inside; outdated cell phones, laptops, tablets, e-readers, iPods, MP3 players, cameras; plastic cereal bag liners; cheese packaging; capped used toothpaste tubes; and, perhaps, most surprisingly, cans of extinguished cigarettes, filters and ash.

A primary mission of Turn Hunger into Hope is to TerraCycle® trash into cash to feed children.

Away from the growing mound of trash bags and boxes, youth sat around large tables coloring TerraCycle® Trash posters in a contest that awarded certificates to those whose donations would provide the most meals to feed children. Each item or pound of non-perishable food items for the Lincoln County Food Bank earned points for the contest participant. Each 22-cent ticket to purchase a tasty treat at the food court fed another child.

Participants in Turn Hunger into Hope funded nutritious meals for 16,0000 children. Over the next month, as the throw-aways are sorted shipped, rebated, then up-cycled into new items ranging from soap pumps to park benches, more than 200 additional meals will be provided for children.

Before you toss your next bag of trash into the dumpster or throw another cigarette butt to the ground, consider TerraCycling® it. Mother Earth and starving children will bless you!

BIO

Guitar virtuoso, multi-instrumentalist and humanitarian, Thomas Radcliffe is an extraordinary acoustic musician whose artistic talent is worthy of the finest stages and highest accolades. He has toured extensively in both Canada and the U.S, having performed in nearly 20 states and in 7 provinces. Performing contemporary folk compositions with classical influences, Radcliffe makes music that is original, technically advanced and exquisite to experience. His compositions and songs, as well as his interpretations of a few classics are wonderfully sensitive and communicative and reach the hearts of people of all ages. His performances are full of positive and up-lifting energy. Audiences are guaranteed to smile, tap their feet and, most likely sing along, and leave a performance humming a new or familiar melody.

He is currently #1 on the ReverbNation charts and recently has procured a guitar endorsement from Morgan Monroe Acoustic Instruments. Thomas is the only touring solo musician performing on the Spanish Laud which he plays in a unique and articulate manner. His renditions of "Ode To Joy" and "Blowin' In The Wind" are enthralling. All of his finger-style playing will wow you and the tenderness and intimacy of his music will touch the core of your being. "New Music From The Inbox: Mat Joly, Teen Daze, Maths and the Moon, Kim Wempe & Thomas P Radcliffe"

It takes all kinds of artists to make up a musical ecosystem. What’s so great about compiling this segment is that sometimes you hear directly from the artists themselves, but sometimes you also hear from fans that have just taken the time to share music they really love. That’s what happened in this case (thanks Amber Khan), and that’s what it’s all about – sharing great music and helping each other uncover artists we might not otherwise find.

Ps. Radcliffe is an incredible laud player.
