"The top 50 Brazilian records of 2016"

Brazilian music is nothing short of spectacular.

With diverse influences, local bands and artists have been experiencing new sounds and exploring new frontiers when they write their songs and records, allowing the final product to be a fruit of different inputs that translate a lot of inspiration.

It has been said and should be repeated: if you are not following Brazilian music, well, you should. From Punk Rock to Brazilian Popular Music, from Hip Hop to electronic music and, in the mix of all that, we are going through one of the best moments in Brazilian music in decades, and there is something here for all tastes.

Here are the top 50 records in Brazil this year; but this list could have 100, 150, 200 or even more, with all that has been said about Brazilian music in 2016.

46 – Trampa – ¡Viva La Evolución!
Trampa is another great rock band from Brasília and, in their new studio album, the group shows 10 heavy songs and great guitar riffs, with lyrics in Portuguese. - Tenho Mais Discos que Amigos

"Trampa tours Canada through Indie Week and works on a vinyl"

The Brazilian band was part of the Indie Week festival between November 15th and 20th, in Canada.

In November, Trampa represented Brazil in the Indie Week festival, in Canada. Lead by vocalist André Noblat, the group made four performances, of 40 minutes, in Toronto. That was the band’s second international tour. In 2015, they participated in the SXSW (South by Southwest), in Austin, Texas.

Alongside 300 other attractions, Trampa is attempting a position in the English edition of the event, to be held in 2017. With a 10 year long career, the band is currently playing their third studio album, “Viva La Evolución!”.

“It’s always a joy to perform in Portuguese outside Brazil. This shows that we have something to offer. And these festivals show new tendencies”, lead singer Noblat says. The audition comes in a very especial moment for the band: after one decade on the road and achieving artistic improvement.

High point in the career and plans for a vinyl in 2017
Noblat sees “Viva La Evolución!” as the consolidation of the group in the Brazilian indie scene. “This record brought us the best results so far”, he says. “Every artist says that, but we do believe this record is more mature and well made. Our concert is more aggressive, heavy and with an even more clear message”.

The lead singer estimates that Trampa will close 2016 with “almost 30 performances”. “For an independent band, this is a lot. And only 3 concerts were held in our hometown, Brasília. The most recent one happened at the Porão do Rock festival, in October”.

Trampa aims to tour with “Viva La Evolución!” until mid 2017, with at least one new video early next year. To close the tour, the band is setting a vinyl collection, still untitled, with acoustic songs as well as with the participation of the Claudio Santoro National Theater Orchestra. - Metropole

"With 10 years on the road, Trampa showcases their new album"

They are all friends; André Noblat (lead singer), Pedrinho “Bap” Cardoso (bass guitar), Rafael Maranhão (electric guitar), Arnoldo Ravizzini (drums) and Rodrigo Vegetal (electric guitar) created Trampa 10 years ago. The band is originally from Brasília and was recently on tour with another local band, Scalene. This year, Trampa has released its third studio album, Viva La Evolución!.

The album was produced by Diego Marx (Scalene and Hover) and brings 10 original songs, which aim to criticize current society’s conservativeness. The work follows Te Presenteio com a Fúria (I Present you with Fury), from 2008, and Causa e Efeito (Cause and Effect), from 2013.

The band has participated in festivals, such as South by Southwest (SXSW), DoSol, Porão do Rock and Grito Rock, and now gets back on the road to promote their new album. In May, Trampa released the video for the song “Você” (You) and promises something new for 2017.

Here is a recent interview with the band and Reduto do Rock.
Reduto do Rock: When and how was the band created?
André Noblat: Trampa was born in 2006. The typical story of a group of friends that get together to play. Fun became something serious after the song “Te Presenteio com a Fúria”, which is the name of the first record, released in 2008. From then on, we worked to create our own sound and identity. In 2011 we toured with orchestras from all the main Brazilian cities. Two years later, in 2013, we released our second album and now, in 2016, we are back with Viva la Evolución!.

RR: What does the band name mean?
AN: Trampa means trap. And it works well with how the band sees our current world.

RR: What are the band’s current projects?
AN: We are on tour to promote our third album, Viva la Evolución!. We’ve been to São Paulo, the South as well as the Mid-West regions. In 2017, we’ll release our first vinyl, alongside an orchestra.

RR: What are your musical influences?
AN: Rage Against The Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, Muse, Raimundos, Legião Urbana…

RR: What’s the inspiration when composing?
AN: The world, its contradictions, social problems, prejudices. The indecent, cheap modern times mankind has achieved (and is being killed by, little by little).

RR: Beatles or Rolling Stones? And why?
AN: The Rolling Stones, for the attitude. - Reduto do Rock

""Viva La Evolución!", new album from Trampa, makes critics to the reactionary wave in Brasil"

We have brought some of the sound from the quintet Trampa new album by publishing the music video of the song "Evolução". Now it's for real, the new album "Viva La Evolución! (2016) " is released and it is available on all digital platforms.

This album (the third studio one) was produced by Diego Marx (Scalene and Hover) and recorded in the Rockin 'Hood studio in Brasilia. It features 10 tracks that address different ailments and critiques to society and its power relations - making a picture of this new "reactionary wave" driven by Bolsonaros and Felicianos (Brazilian politicians) that is plaguing Brazil today.

The opening track, "Você?”, which also features a video clip, anticipates the discussions that are raised in the album and put conservatives and bigots against the wall. "Cidade" depicts the lonely side of the Brazilian capital and highlights their daily lives. According to the band's lead singer, Andre Noblat is a power routine. "In Brasilia, people exchange their dreams for an office space," he says.
Featuring the musician Tiago Freitas, from ETNO, a fellow band, on vocals, "Farda" condemns police violence and the remnants of the military dictatorship. "Evolução", talks about modernity ironically. The tracks "Sujo" and "Fome" talk about illusions suggested by the system and resume the idea that we are stagnated in old concepts.
“Respirar” brings a message of liberation from pessimism and to not give up the fight. This composition comes from a partnership with the musician Oliver Alexander from Darshan. In "Guerra", "Sol" and "Rotina", the group puts hatred of ethnic conflict, violence against women and the self-indulgence ingrained in society in the open. - Guitar Talks

"Exclusive Premiere: Trampa releases lyric video for "Evolucion""

Trampa is a band from Brasilia that will releasein May its third studio album, Viva La Evolución, and began the same right away with new material.

After this weekends gigs next to Scalene, the group released with exclusivelity on TMDQA! The premiere of a lyric video called "Evolucion".

As usual, we talked to one of the band members about this path that begins today, and in this case, was the vocalist André Noblat who told us about the work of Trampa and the heavy aesthetics on this new lyric video.

Have a good time!

TMDQA !: For those who do not know Trampa, how would you describe the band's music?

André: Trampa is aggressive. We understand that music is the best way we have of express ourselfs. To speak without mincing words what we think. As the world does not go any better, this end up influencing our music. We make a heavy rock with modern elements, but very direct. For real, we never know how to describe accuratly or influencies but, Rage, Muse, Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of The Stone Age, are some of our main ones.

I think from that you can imagine something.

TMDQA: You have being on the road since 2006 and have played at major national festivals like Dosol, Porão do Rock and Grito Rock, and even at SXSW, US. How all of those years and your experiences shaped the sound that we will hear on the third album?

Andre: Everything we've lived and experienced with the music brought us security and maturity for the production of this third work. We had no hurry. We wanted something strong, that sounded live and sounded honest to us. Above all we wanted a relevant CD, not just a few good songs. A CD that can take our work forward.

We work with Diego Marx, producer of Scalene, Hover, among other wonderful artists. This was fundamental because he knew how to get the best of each one of us.

TMDQA !: Brasilia has always been a very interesting center for the national rock, and some years it has returned to appear more clearly with bands like Scalene and Dona Cislene. How do you see the local scene today, and integration with the rest of the country?

Andre: The Rock lives in Brazil, just in different platforms. It is like this and will always be. As these platforms grow, rock enters evidence again. This is what we have seen lately.

This reality ends up making room for bands that do not have sound necessarily mainstream. If it's good and well done it can grow. One day the mainstream will be formed by musicians that emerge from these new platforms, increasingly less influenced the mass of traditional midias.

Thats what we think and what we hope and work for it to happen. But does that means that we hate radio and TV? No! The more radio and TV exists for rock music, the better it is. But it is always good to know that the underground scene depends less and less of them.

As for Brasilia. We have our best generation of bands from the Raimundos. Scalene, Dona Cislene, Darshan, Ethno, Alarms, Galinha Preta. As the cultural media in Brazil is not here in the capital, it takes a little longer for the bands to be recognized. But we have no problems in to insist.

TMDQA !: How was the creation of the video process? There is a very strong concept to the visual and the lyrics. How did the idea to portray it through drawings and animation?

Andre: In our new album, each song is depicted by an illustration of the chilean artist Cheo Gonzales, who lives here in Brasilia. The Lyric Video of "Evolucion", has the music that influenced the albuns`s name, the background is the the main illustration of album. It sums up how we see the world today and just short poetically what we say in the lyrics.

Working with graphics is something present throughout the history of the band. We like to use other artistics languages to portray our music. - Tenho mais Discos que Amigos

"Goiania or Brasilia? Tendencies Rock Festival - 3rd night"

The third night of the Tendencies Rock Festival was highlighted by the arrival of bands

from Distrito Federal (Brazilian State) but it was a new local band, named Last Travel to

Manhattan, that made the opening show of the evening. The band, mainly formed by young

musicians, brought their few - although hysterical - fans to support the band in the time of

the show composed mostly by melancholic, but beautiful, lyrics.

The first band from Brasilia to perform was the over prepared Scalene. Elected the "most

handsome band of the festival" by the feminine audience, the group came "armed and

prepare" to share their sound. With a lead singer "a la Josh Homme", Scalene surprised

everybody with their great songs and impeccable guitar riffs.

One of the local Bands, Cão de Rua, brought their well-made protest through some smart

and well-written lyrics and along their audience who was already familiar with the setlist.

Piêit, one of the musicians who currently lives in Minas Gerais (Brazilian State), took

advantage of the occasion and released his EP "Demasiado", which is filled with romance

and emotion, during the Festival.

Darshan, a pretty heavy band that was second to last of the evening, came into the stage

with some burning and melodic guitar riffs in great harmony. I think one one of the words

to define the bands from the capital city of Brazil is Harmony, such as the harmony the

musicians in these bands involve themselves with in the stage in a perfect symmetry.

Closing the evening, Trampa came to prove that Brasilia is still one of the big exporters

of new bands of the Brazilian Rock. Trampa is a band completely prepared to face any

challenge from the national current music scenario. It is balanced, modern, it is instigating.

It ́s really impossible to pass unnoticed, their energy goes even to those tired from a whole

night of Rock and Roll.

Goiânia x Brasília – During these three first days of the festival, I kept trying to find words to

define the difference between the bands from Goiania and from Brasilia, and I think I got a

grasp to where is this difference. The bands from Goiania are powerful and provocative and

the "garage band vibe", "the stoner rock vibe" attracts and invite the audience closer to the

stage since the interaction stage / audience is huge.

On the other hand, Brasilia, known as the brazilian capital of rock ́n ́roll for being the

birthplace of many renowned bands that are spread throughout the country, has their

bands extremely harmonic, well-produced and seductive. While Goiania seems to attract

me, Brasilia seduces me. Coming down to a sentence, I would say that Goiania is the

Reason while Brasilia is the Emotion, making this the perfect fit for the 11th edition of the

Tendencies Rock Festival. - Mary Camata

"Rock and classical music unite in show of Trampa Symphony"

In a free concert in Brasilia, rock band joins the Petrobras Symphony Orchestra to honor the

conductor Silvio Barbato

By Pedro Willmersdorf

Also check out our blog.

The hardcore fans will have to forgive me, but a little crazy mixture is fundamental. What is the

point of classical music if we cannot hear guitar chords whenever we want?

To cheer up the fans of a good mix, Sunday, July 10, Fundução Progresso will receive Trampa

Symphony concert. And the best is? For free!

This concert is a partnership between the rock band Trampa from Brasilia and the Petrobrás

Symphony Orchestra, which will have their seats saved on the stage to play their symphonies

merged in honor of the great conductor Silvio Barbato, killed in the crash of Air France Flight

447 in 2009 .

In this special concert setlist will be the repertoire of symphonic versions of Trampa songs,

created by Silvio Barbato, and some reinterpretations by the Petrobras Symphony, under the

baton of Carlos Prazeres.

Friends from other states have nothing to cry about because the concert-partnership,

produced by Vê Cultura, the Federal Government and the Ministry of Culture, sponsored by

Vale, will still take place in Recife, Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte.

While the violins and guitars does ́t land on the stage of Fundição Progresso, why don ́t you

listen to some of the songs to get used to the symphonies that will take place this sunday in

Rio de Janeiro. - Jornal do Brasil (Brasil's Paper)

"Check out what happened on day two of Porão do Rock"

(...) Being completely honest, it must have been around 10 PM and I was beat. I just wanted to watch the Raimundos concert and go home, but then a band that I did not of know start performing and f*** ... What a show! Trampa, a experienced band from Brasilia, surprised the entire audience of the festival with a great heavy sound that felt like punches in my face. When they performed a song called "Te presenteio com a furia," I went crazy (and got stuck with that song playing in my head all week). Their range goes from the most brutal to the finest. "Our work as an independent band is very hard, but seeing you here singing just motivates us more and more." Awesome! (...) - Rock de Verdade

"Review of Causa e Efeito from Trampa"

In such a comprehensive and diverse universe, what does tell all bands apart? What is the result of the release of a new album? These are questions that Trampa hopes to answer with the launch and the receptivity of his second album entitled " Causa e Efeito ".
Regardless of the answers, "Causa e Efeito" already emerges victorious. The album that succeeds "Te presenteio com a Fúria", the group's debut in 2008, ties all the talented ends of these musicians who know very well what they want.

Trampa, whose current formation is: André Noblat (vocals), Arnoldo Ravizzini (drums), Pedrinho Cardoso (bass), Rafael Maranhão (guitar), Rodrigo Vegetal (guitar) and Marcelo Seabra (guitar), liquefies the raw state, delivering a crystal clear hearing of their compositions - their best so far - without losing the heavy edge, one of these Brasilia born musicians characteristics.

The album starts with "Furacão". Guitars and drums dialoging furiously with some lyrics that advises the listener to struggle for their dreams. “If today the wind has turned into a breeze, let's make a change of direction. Let´s challenge the world and awaken the hurricane.”

Moving on, we reach “Libertar”. Great guitar riffs, enraged cymbals, pulsating bass and some great “Crescendo” vocals from Noblat. “Today, I am going beyond this. I am going to free myself.” Try it!
“Grite, Por Favor”. Pedro Bap´s angry bass starts a riot of sounds, perfectly accompanied by his band peers, a song filled with delicious guitar riffs, carrying a letter that advises the listener to seek sail in the opposite direction of a world and its people, getting as far as possible of those who are evil and do evil stuff.

The fourth track called "Nada Além do Fim" is one of the highlights of the album with heavy musical arrangements and an efficient and adorably catchy chorus. Enjoy it without moderation. "Causa e Efeito", the track that entitles the album has a sober arrangement, between a sweet harmony and a heavy edge, a needed duality wrapped by the motto “I will go and not look back, because I know what I am and I want to go on without any regrets”. Just go ahead!
We have entered the second half of the album and it is “Enlouquecer”, most likely the song that gives away some influence of Queens of the Stone Age to the band and some contribution to the riff making from the teachings from bands like Metallica. That is for you to listen and quench your thirst for a good sound.
“Decadentes” is a mix of influences, a very heavy song with some progressive vocals a lá Muse. This song is an inspiration to the band, others musicians and listeners that believe in the Rock music, aligned with this perfect lyrics: “Let´s fight with all our power to make a new world”, Let´s Rock! \m/

The eighth track, "O que restou? (Tempo)", is the one that comes closest to a soft rock, an arrangement set as ballad thanks to the instrumental cadence, especially on an album with so many "blows to the head". The composition tells the misadventures of love and maintaining this feeling through time. “Desfaz no Vento”, the second to last track, is the heaviest one. Crazed guitar playing bringing to life a strong theme: Fighting, even when it brings serious consequences.

This record comes to an end with the last track, “Cinzas”, with a theme that concludes and awards a well intended, sincere and strong album and that contemplates the maturity of this band in their craft as musicians or songwriters.

Produced by Rafael Ramos, the man responsible for launching bands as Pitty, Raimundos, Capital Inicial and Matanza, "Causa e Efeito" shows strength and that goes far beyond contextualizing topics such as prejudice, repression and choices. It's a positive album that reinforces the maturity - not only of Trampa, but - of the entire national rock, which must return to light, showing up in the media and prove to all of the audiences of Brazil that we have our real cultural product.

Congratulations to the group! - Na Rota do Rock

"Sepultura: a cool presentation on Porão do rock selective"

(...) SEPULTURA and TRAMPA were invited to highlight the evening and made two great and exalted presentations.

Trampa is already well known in Brasilia and the Federal District, has already recorded a CD and a DVD and are about to launch their second studio work. The quintet has a very heavy and unique sound with lyrics in Portuguese, so it would be impossible to define a style to fit in the band, since all elements of various genres and sub rock / metal genres are included in the songs. The band was very well received by the public and that led to two major interactions with the audience. The most outstanding moment was when Andre Noblat, lead singer of the band, asked the audience to split into a Wall of Death that raised a lot of dust in the Student Square.(...) - Whiplash
