"Artistic Tourism"

[One] artist who has found her way to Kathmandu is Nicole Gagnon, a songstress who makes music under the name Woodley. For her, the trip to Nepal was a rather spontaneous decision that provided the opportunity to record songs at a high-end studio in the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory for much less than it would cost in Canada. Drawing on a network of artists affiliated with the Art Haus of Kathmandu Nicole is currently producing a four-song EP of her original music. She describes her style of music as indie folk-pop, and sings about love and loss with an ethereal tone, powerfully sung over stripped down acoustic instrumentals. The recordings used musicians living in Kathmandu at the time, who were Nepali, English, and Finnish; making it a collaboration with musicians from three continents. - Kathmandu Post

Bio

Nicole Gagnon, known by her stage name as Woodley, is an indie folk-rock music vocalist, songwriter and guitarist.

Woodley is making music and seeking answers.

She believes everyone who enters her life is the answer to a question, formed or unformed in the mind. These questions, and their answers inspire her song writing. Along with her partner Corey, Woodley writes all the music she sings.

Her studio releases reflect on the themes of lusting, longing, loving and loss.

The fusion of Woodley’s country-twanged vocals, folk-like storytelling and memorable pop and rock melodies make for beautiful songs that echo in your mind long after you’ve stopped listening. Her voice reminds listeners of Jewel. Her melodies are catchy like the Beatles. Woodley’s musical inspiration includes Cat Stevens for his lovely lyrics, Damien Rice for pouring his heart into his songs, and Dave Matthews Band for their stage presence and constant song reinvention.

Woodley has struck gold when she’s had an experience and discovered an answer that will help others. Community is one of the keys to a healthy life, and she genuinely desires the opportunity to build a supportive and loving community with her listeners. This is why she writes music, why she performs.

Woodley honours all life and craves answers to the world’s problems by avidly exploring its amazing continents. She believes global warming is destructive, animal rights are important, and cutting down our beautiful rainforests is silly. Her answer is to live a yogic life as a vegetarian while playing yoga teacher on the side of her music career.

Woodley’s music is for anyone familiar with love and loss, and looking for answers in our wanting world.
