"MySpace Alert: Berg"

Berg is really, really good. So good, in fact, that I took the trouble of loading up my iPod with a few of his demos (available on MySpace, natch) and listening to them on the drive from California to New Hampshire.

I don’t want to talk the guy up too much, because at heart, he’s nothing more or less than a classic pop tunesmith with an uncommonly strong ear for melody. You aren’t going to hear these songs and feel the earth move. You will, though, I think, be pleasantly surprised and wholly entertained. And you will probably also want to keep an eye on Berg and order his upcoming EP when it’s finally ready. I, for one, will be buying a copy.

Good pop music. It doesn’t seem like it should be so hard to write and record, but it’s usually beyond the grasp of whoever’s doing it, you know? Berg’s got the touch. Go check him out. - jeffitoblog.com

"Berg ranked No. 1 in "Gainesville Nine Who Are Worth Your Time""

“Like the one-man bands of old, Berg doesn't need any backup. The 27-year-old singer-songwriter is no stranger to being part of a band, but for now has decided to strengthen his solo skills. By only using an acoustic guitar and looping sounds of drums and a bass line on a Line-6 delay pedal, he has crafted a backup band without one.”

"Doobie Brothers' drummer Ed Toth on Berg's EP"

“It’s really cool stuff. Nice, concise tunes delivered with no B.S. Awesome.” - Ed Toth, drummer/percussionist, Vertical Horizon & The Doobie Brothers

"2 Dogs Coffee Shop owner on Berg’s performance"

“Easily the best show we’ve had here in months.” - Steve Tomak, 2 Dogs Coffee Shop & Internet Cafe (San Luis Obispo, CA)

A poetic singer-songwriter, Berg has a talent for engaging audiences with his captivating melody and heartfelt lyrics. A native of Gainesville, Florida now hailing from New York City, Berg blends acoustic, folk, alternative, pop and rock in his very own recipe for enchanting songs. The artist certainly doesn’t downplay his pop sensibilities in the delivery of each and every song, displaying that his melodic hooks can appeal to all listeners.

Berg recorded his recent EP, Believing & Being, at Electron Gardens Studios in Atlanta co-produced by studio owners Gary Pfaff & Tim Delaney. Says Berg of the recording process: “It never ceases to amaze me how surreal this experience has been recording these songs, because I feel like I've been reliving each one as we worked on them. These are some of the most personal songs I've ever written, and I feel like we've captured the essence and emotion of each one.” Three songs on the EP (“Still Here Waiting”, “Bittersweet”, “Raining in Atlanta”) appear in the independent film Screw Cupid (written and directed by Sanjeev Sirpal, starring Mircea Monroe of the FOX-TV series "Drive"; 2008 Delray Beach Film Festival audience selection for best feature). In addition, "Chasing Tomorrow" was selected as one of the best songs for the Cape May Singer-Songwriter Festival (courtesy of "Original Audio," WCFA 101.5 FM).

After performing more than 250 shows the past three years, Berg is set to continue his steadfast touring in 2008. While his 2007 calendar included a West Coast tour that took him to California for promotional efforts for the film, Berg raked his way through the Southeast and continued to establish himself in major national markets Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orlando and New York City.

Having grown up in a college town, Berg also takes pride in the college market, having performed shows at the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville, AR), University of Florida (Gainesville, FL), University of California-Davis (Davis, CA) and Southern Vermont College (Bennington, VT), among others. "Berg came to the University of Arkansas and played for the Coffeehouse Committee," said Amber Widdowson, Coffeehouse Chair, University Programs, University of Arkansas (Fayetteville). "We had an awesome time. Berg's performance was a perfect event to bring for our programming committee."

Berg has also showcased at the prestigious Atlantis Music Conference (Atlanta, GA), Cape May Singer-Songwriter Festival (Cape May, NJ), and Florida Music Law Conference (Gainesville, FL). Recently relocated to the Big Apple, Berg is spending much time writing and recording in anticipation of a full-length album tentatively due out in late 2008.

Berg began his musical journey in 1992 in his hometown by organizing the inaugural St. Francis House Benefit Concert to aide a local homeless shelter. From there, he fronted a couple of local bands before branching out on his own to allow the free development of his own creative mind. Berg has since shared the stage with numerous recognizable regional acts, as well as national acts such as Shawn Mullins, Stroke 9, Brian Vander Ark (The Verve Pipe), Ernie Halter, Five Star Iris and Big 10-4.

Armed with a passion for live-performance and three songs featured in a film, Berg hits the road in 2008 ready to win over even more fans to join the loyal and impassioned grassroots following that drive him. With momentum in tow, new and long-standing fans alike will find themselves rooting for this rising, down-to-earth singer-songwriter.
