Summary

Big Music Fest in Kitchener Ontario is looking for 20 Sonicbids artists from the Ontario area to take part in their second annual Breaking Bands Talent Competition on July 10, 2015. The 20 selected artists will compete on the first night of Big Music Fest and the winner will receive a prize package including $2,000 cash and more.

The Opportunity

Big Music Fest is one of the largest, most exciting all-ages outdoor festivals in Ontario, welcoming over 60,000 attendees every year. Since 2008, BMF has featured a wide variety of musical talent, from local emerging artists to high profile stadium bands. Now a three day festival, and in keeping with this tradition, BMF is proud to present Breaking Bands 2015. Showcasing the best musicians in the area as they compete for the big prize and break into Canada's music industry.

All artists must submit 2 songs to be reviewed for the competition.

The Band

  • Only artists from Ontario will be considered
  • Artists of all genres are encouraged to apply
  • Full bands are preferred, groups must have 3 or more members to be eligible
  • Artists must perform family friendly material
  • All members submitting must be 16 years of age or older to participate. Entrants under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian

The Gig

Details

  • Sound equipment (mics, PA's, monitors) will be supplied
  • Basic backline (drumset, amps) will be provided

  • The opportunity to perform on the main stage at Big Music Fest 2016

  • AVID ProTools Certificate Course from Metalworks
  • Studio time at Metalworks Studio
  • 1-hour band consultation/mentorship with Paul Sanderson, Entertainment Lawyer
  • Mentorship/Consultations with numerous industry professionals
  • $2,000 cash

Terms And Conditions

1. This contest is open to emerging bands that compose and perform original material.

2. For the purpose of this contest a band constitutes three (3) or more members.

3. The entrants must not have had any previous songs charted in the Top 20 of Canadian radio. The submitting entrants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants. (See definition in paragraph 5.) If there is more than one writer, all co-writers must be in agreement for the songs to be submitted. The prize package must be divided between band members at their mutual discretion. The contest is not open to staff, directors or employees of Big Music Fest.

4. All entrants must submit 2 original songs in an mp3

5. Songs entered must meet CANCON requirements as per the MAPL system that defines a Canadian Song. To qualify as Canadian content, a musical selection must generally fulfill at least two of the following conditions: M (music); A (artist); P (performance/production); L (lyrics). 6. Entrants and their collaborators will retain full rights to all work submitted for the contest. The entrant warrants and represents that the songs submitted are sole, exclusive and original works of the entrants.

7. Entries will be judged on the following criteria:
(a) Songwriting quality originality, lyrics, melody and composition
(b) Band performance
(c) Overall musicianship of band

8. There will be one (1) Grand Prize winner.

9. Entrants will be judged by a committee comprised of music industry professionals including but not limited to: radio music directors/personalities, managers/music agents and established artists. Prizes will be awarded jointly to all band members. Division of prizes is the responsibility of the winners. The winners release sponsors from all liability regarding prizes won. All federal, provincial and local taxes, when applicable, are the sole responsibility of the winners.

10. The lyrics entered must not include or contain any material that is obscene, offensive, defamatory, pornographic, threatening or abusive, content that is otherwise objectionable or would be deemed inappropriate, unsuitable or offensive, all as determined by Big Music Fest in its sole discretion. Big Music Fest reserves the right to disqualify any entries that contain the elements previously described.

11. Must be 16 years of age or older to participate. Entrants under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

12. The winners must sign and return an affidavit confirming that the songs entered are original and he/she holds rights to the songs. Failure to sign and return the form within 14 days or provision of false information may result in disqualification and an alternative winner will be selected. Entry constitutes permission to use winners names, likeness and voices for future publicity and advertising purposes without additional compensation. Entry constitutes permission for the winning band to be filmed for a documentary to be used solely for promotion of the winning band without additional compensation. If there is more than one writer per submission, all co-writers must sign a letter of agreement for the songs to be submitted, and must abide by all criteria to enter.

13. Big Music Fest shall have the right to use the songs at their sole discretion, which comprises the lyrics and music of the entrants. Big Music Fest is not obligated to pay any royalties or fees of any kind to the authors/entrants.

14. Entrants can only win the Grand Prize once.

15. The contest is subject to all federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations that may be applicable. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.

16. All decisions made by Big Music Fest with respect to the acceptance of any entry and eligibility of entries shall be final and binding. Big Music Fest reserves the right to extend the deadline of the competition and/or announcement of the winner if needed.

(a)All personal information collected from entrants will be used only for the purposes of administering the contest, delivering the prizes and for marketing and promotional purposes; under no circumstances will any personal information be sold or rented to third parties. All personal information collected by BigMusicFest Inc. will be kept in accordance with the companys privacy policy, and in accordance with all applicable privacy laws.

(b)The right is reserved by BigMusicFest Inc.to terminate this contest, in whole or in part, and/or modify, amend or suspend the contest, and/or these rules in any way, should any cause beyond the reasonable control of either party or its agents affect the proper administration thereof.

17. Entrants hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless the contest entities (including Big Music Fest, all participating radio stations and all sponsors) from and against any and all third party claims arising out of or resulting from:
(a) the entrants participation in the talent search;
or
(b) any breach or alleged breach of any of the warranties, representations, or agreements granted, made by or entered into by an entrant.

18. Failure To Comply With These Talent Search Rules May Result In Disqualification.
